Senior Private school needed or agency help

I am desperately in need of a pastorally good senior school (year 9). We were at an amazing prep school and currently at a private school which has no sense of community, no sense of pride and my child is so lonely as they all knew each other from the junior school. The school have been told and don't care. Is it possible to find a private senior school which is pastorally amazing and where there is that family feeling or am I looking for something that doesn't exist. Definitely not Uppingham, Oakham, Stamford or Oundle. 2 hours from those schools would be amazing but for the perfect and right school maybe further. Shiplake don't do Latin so is a no ! Happy to consider an agency but not Gabbitas as they were so condescending !! Thank you !!**

You do have the Good School Guide don't you?

If your thinking of Felsted you might as well have a look at Framlingham?

I spent a few days in Cambridge earlier this year and was able to walk around the City visiting places which caught my eye.

When I was walking from the Botanical Garden to the Fitzwilliam, I saw a nice building and a sign saying 'The Leys School'. I looked it up online later and thought what a nice school it was.

I'm not sure whether Cambridge fits your criterion of being 2 hours or less from where you live, but I wonder whether the Leys School would appeal to you.

Latin seems to be a subject which they offer.

Hi OP, did you consider Dauntseys?

I did ask about Felstead in June but they couldnt/wouldn't fit us in to get a space for September. Do you have any experience? Is it a good community? Thank you

Yes, my kids love it and are doing well. Son joined in year ten, now in year 11and DD this year in year 8. No problems in making friends in already established grouos. Don't know about availability though.

Bradfield? Very close to Pangbourne so I assume would work geographically.

XelaM · 29/11/2023 06:53

Is Aldenham too far for you? It's a lovely school. I have only heard good things from parents with kids there.

Another76543 · 29/11/2023 07:09

Greshams?

RoxyMilo · 29/11/2023 09:47

We contacted Pangbourne before and they were full.

I've messaged Ratcliffe today as that seems to say the right things but they are full.

Did you move from a school you were unhappy with?

Hi, in case that’s a question for me..no, we moved back to the UK from overseas. Kids were at Cranleigh in Abu Dhabi before moving back.

"Your thinking'?😵 sorry

A relative is at Bradfield and they have done wonders for them. Happy at prep school, but the upper school was awful. Mother pulled them out after first year, home schooled for a year, then started at Bradfield, great support, their GCSE results were great.

LoserWinner · 29/11/2023 11:24

Try Bloxham - just about within your range, co-ed, ver ‘community’, does offer Latin.

Nameychango · 29/11/2023 11:31

Kings Ely? Heard great things about it!

Nameychango · 29/11/2023 11:35

Not Co Ed but St. Mary's School Cambridge is a girls school if you have a girl? It is a fantastic community, nurturing, amazing in virtually every way. Can't sing it's praises enough.
Co Ed - the Leys school in Cambridge is also pastorally great and a lovely school. Cambridge is a gorgeous place for them to study and all those schools are walking distance from a station

St Edwards Oxford?

RoxyMilo · 29/11/2023 15:30

They were full back in June : (

We have a slow processing disorder which affect just Maths. Kings Ely said they wouldn't support :(

And Bedales would. Try again!
DC had incredible help from her wonderful teacher who diagnosed a similar disorder and made her catch up on 4 years of maths (at another school) in one year. Astonishing.

OP I am wondering if perhaps there has been an issue at the previous school which may be following your DC? If that's the case you might need Gabitas. Never seen so many full schools.

Exasperatednow · 29/11/2023 16:35

Kimbolton? A couple of my friends children go there/did go and they like/liked it.

Spirallingdownwards · 29/11/2023 16:42

I am surprised King's Ely say they won't support slow processing disorder as I know they have done so for plenty of children before including 2 of my own.

RoxyMilo · 29/11/2023 19:43

I was gutted as we were on the way there ! Weird thing is at prep school we had no additional support and passed common entrance.
