Yes I know I was late, for the first time today I was late to collect my child from school, she finishes at 3.10 I arrived at 3.13 as I was leaving (classroom door I collected her from is around the corner from school office) my phone rang it was school office ringing to tell me I'm late ? Do you think this is a little quick to ring me ? Or is it me ?

Mine do it too...2 minutes late! But it's fair enough. They want to make sure you're on your way etc

Annoying, but I think they have to do it

MrsDeaconClaybourne · 06/06/2022 17:10

Depends what they said when they rang I'd say. Where I work we're more likely to ring sooner for someone who isn't usually late as we'd assume there was a problem. Sometimes children can be worried if their parent isn't usually late and a quick phone call can reassure them and us that you're just stuck in traffic or something.

If they were rude to you then it's definitely not on.

jubileetrain · 06/06/2022 17:11

It takes more than 3 minutes to get all the kids in DDs class to their parents at pick up time, then get a message to the office to call a parent. Your school must be super efficient.

SleepingStandingUp · 06/06/2022 17:12

I'd say ridiculous. You can't even get our kids out within three minutes so the parents who always turn up five minutes late are back of the queue, not keeping the teachers chained to the building after hours.

HelpIneedsomebodywontyouplease · 06/06/2022 17:12

I think if they finish at 3:10 then it would be ideal to be there a few minutes before.
If they have to wait for parents beyond home time then it impacts on the staffs time. You weren’t there at home time, they don’t know that you aren’t going to be 4 minutes late or 40 mins late, so I think it’s fair enough to phone you really. They probably have parents a few minutes late several times a week across all the classes!

I'm impressed you'd clear enough kids to see who wasn't there who usually was, get a message to the office, lookup the phone number and call within three minutes.

Gracebeau89 · 06/06/2022 17:14

Thank you for your replies, you've reassured me a little, I felt a little on the spot as I called in the office after the phone call, to pay for a school trip.

That's why I was shocked they had rang so quick, I passed parents on the way down the drive, who have children in my daughters class

I don't even know how that could happen. Was she still in class?

Passtheduchyonthelefthandside · 06/06/2022 17:26

We open our doors at 3.15, we take children to the office after 3.25. so yea 2 mins after doors open is quick!

daisydalrymple · 06/06/2022 17:33

Dc3 finishes at 3pm. If we’re lucky, they open the gates for parents at 3.05pm, so I’d say that’s extremely super efficient calling! But totally different set up in different schools. We live around the corner from the school, so I leave the house at 2.58 mostly. If I knew they were that quick, then I’d be leaving 5 mins earlier.

I wasn't really processing the times. I'd say a good 10 mins after pick up is what I'd count as quick by the time the child has even delivered to the office. I was just trying to say an early call doesn't necessarily mean school are annoyed.

HairyScaryMonster · 06/06/2022 17:52

I'm impressed they'd got all the class out and asked the office to call in the space of 3 mins!

Gracebeau89 · 06/06/2022 18:05

HairyScaryMonster Yes! This is what I mean, her teachers must of got that message to the office pretty quick

My youngest is supposed to finish at 3.15 but they often let them out at 3.10 so even if I'm on time DC is usually the last one in the room apart from the kids going to ASC.

It's annoying as his older siblings come out at 3.30 (same school) and they are often let out 5 mins late.

Tbh I think under 5mins late is over the top for a phone call unless it happens a few times but once is ridiculous.

Swayingpalmtrees · 06/06/2022 18:15

Ridiculous! And militant.

Moonlaserbearwolf · 06/06/2022 18:23

It takes more that 3 minutes to say goodbye to pupils at the end of a school day. Perhaps the teacher let the children out a few minutes early? A call at 3.13 is ridiculous!

themonkeysnuts · 06/06/2022 18:29

blimy thats quick , weve had a parent rock up half an hour late (school nursery) couldnt get hold of them

bellac11 · 06/06/2022 18:34

Well either it wasnt just 3 mins late which explains the surprise from people that they phoned you 'so quickly'

Or they might have walkie talkies, couldnt see you as they bought the kids out, so messaged the office and they and phoned you. They might have also phoned the other parents you passed on the drive too

ThreeonaHill · 06/06/2022 18:46

If they wait 15 mins to call and then it takes you 20 mins to get there, they're late home for their own children...

They're hoping your already in your way, but if you're not, have forgotten altogether some crisis has happened, the sooner you and they know, the better.

Mammyloveswine · 06/06/2022 18:58

I'm a teacher and would only ring around 5/10 minutes after pick up

Onwards22 · 06/06/2022 19:02

I can’t see how they realised you weren’t there and got all of the kids out in 3 minutes!

We finish at 3:15 but it always takes at least 15mins for all of them to go.

Are you usually early? Or does she sometimes go after school club?
Maybe because you’re not usually late they must have thought there was a reason you weren’t there.

Heckythump1 · 06/06/2022 19:55

Is 3.15pm the gates open time? or the last time to pick up time?
Our gates open at 3.10pm and you have until 3.20pm to pick up, nearly all are picked but by 3.15pm so I guess if a child was the last one there and isn't normally, they'd probably be contacting the office to get in touch with the parents!

Gracebeau89 · 06/06/2022 20:35

There are three classes in the EYFS group which she's in nursery leave first at 3 followed by the first reception class at 3.05 then my daughters class, at 3.10.
