Nursery: Children painting with no clothes on?

Jzee · 20/11/2004 18:29

I'm pretty sure I heard this correctly, but it was mentioned to me recently that so as to stop the children's clothes getting covered in paint a nursery allows the children do painting naked. I don't know if this a regular thing, or perhaps they started off with nappies and knickers and ended up with nothing? I imagine the children find it fun, but personally I think it's a bit cold and a bit unusual. What are your opinions?

i suppose your nursery is a godsend to you then with the two and one on the way?

misdee · 20/11/2004 21:58

be 2.5yrs between them all when bump arrives (march). am due the same week dd1 was born. so bubs better be on time as told dd1 that the baby should be here by her birthday.

misdee · 20/11/2004 21:59

dd1 goes to state run nursery every afternoon, she starts school in january, dd2 goes to private nursery one afternoon a week. she was desperate to go, kept trying to break into dd1 nursery school.

Slinky · 20/11/2004 22:00

LOL Misdee

DD2 was due on DD1s 4th birthday. Unfortunately DD2 decided she didn't want to share her birthday and arrived 16 days later

In between those 2, I had my little boy who was 22 months when DD2 was born.

misdee · 20/11/2004 22:01

dh is winding me up saying we're gonna try for #4 when this one reaches 1.5yrs old. heh no chance!!!

mrsmiawallace · 20/11/2004 22:02

to add insult to injury on the whole 'nursery/playgroup debate', the playgroup i take dd to on a friday recently handles an incident with hot coffee all over friends baby very badly, didnt attend to him or check he was ok later. that also makes me question them.

misdee · 20/11/2004 22:04

that was horrendous!! cant belive they can be so stupid. i never liked the toddler groups etc round here as they seemed too lax with some safety aspects, and far too noisey for my tastes.

i inspected the nursery centre before sending my dd's there, and when looking for school went round loads before i found one i was very happy with. I have to find dd2 a new place soon as her palce is in the next town at the same nursery where dd1 one goes to, and i cant bein 2 palces at once to pick them up.

Slinky · 20/11/2004 22:06

MMW

Is that a playgroup or a Mother and Toddler Group?

M&T groups are a different kettle of fish from playgroups. Anything goes at a M&T group, whereas Playgroups/Preschools are inspected by OFSTED and have to adhere to certain policies.

mrsmiawallace · 20/11/2004 22:07

i know, am planning to speak to playleader on fri, but unsure of how to broach it although something obviously must be said.

Slinky · 20/11/2004 22:08

A M&T group I used to go to had loads of "baby walkers" with babies in them whizzing whilst mums left their teas/coffees on the floor for baby to crash into.

After a while, friend and I took over the running of it, and we got rid of all babywalkers, and mums had to drink their coffees by the kitchen hatch!

lol Misdee, was saying today about DD2's nakedness, my DD2 is always naked (in the house) she does try to get naked at preschool but I make her keep her clothes on. Its no a big deal to us, its part of her, and we go through about 3 changes of clothes a day. Everyone who knows DD2 is shocked when they walk in and she is dressed!!!

misdee · 20/11/2004 22:11

she even streaks at mine mieow!!

mrsmiawallace · 20/11/2004 22:12

in your own home its fine, although dd always has nappy on as dont want little presents on carpets, its just the public thing that was the concern.

how do i speak to playleader re: hot drinks without her being funny?am gonna do it anyway as want to stop it before anything nasty happens to dd, but also dont want to fall out as this one is really good normally and v.clean.

mieow · 20/11/2004 22:15

I know misdee, she just seems to hate clothes

Slinky · 20/11/2004 22:17

MMW

I would just say that you're concerned that a child may be seriously injured by the spilling of hot drinks. Perhaps suggesting a designated area for drinks, away from children.

After the previous incident, I'm sure she'll be just as worried. Is there a "thread" posted regarding the other incident?

I'm sure she wouldn't mind you bringing the subject up.

mrsmiawallace · 20/11/2004 22:26

yes, i asked for advice the other day.
am suprised friend hasnt done anything as shes in nursing and her dh carer and said health and safety would throw the book for something like that!
think ill say that im concerned about what happend and dont want it to re-occur, so could we have a designated spot for hot drinks and parents help them selves, then its their responsability what happens with it, hopefully they will all keep them away from little ones??

mrsmiawallace · 20/11/2004 22:26

also spilt hot tea all over myself today in goathland cafe and dd was really upset, i think it reminded her about Lennon and shook her up again.

mrsmiawallace · 20/11/2004 22:38

off to bed now girls, thanks for the 'discussion' it will give us all something to think about wont it?
take care
