I overheard someone who works at my kids school slagging the school off

she is not a teacher or a TA but does work at the school part-time and I overheard her dissing the school bigtime today...
should I say something to the head? as a parent governor I feel some responsibility and loyalty (and I actually rate the school highly!).

she was comparing our school to another local school where she has "recently moved her son, and he is according to her flying at the new school which just goes to prove what a crap school this is" very loudly!

We had lunchtime assistant who let the cat out of the bag about a health and safety issue to parents- she got into real trouble and was so nervous about everthing after that- it was awful for her. The head was a cross between Stalin and Thatcher- padded shoulder typeand really wanted power.

My feeling is that people should always be allowed to let off steam about things- sometimes it's inevitable- and complaints etc through the official channels change the status; anyway- the powers that be often ignore, have channels that make it very hard to complain, and some less articulate people can just give up.

There's a difference between slagging off for the sake of it and having a genuine grievance anyway.

well maybe she does think the school is crap

sorry but I know she works there but honestly she is entitled to her opinion even if it is a bit charmless and indiscreet

and as she isnt the head or deputy or one of the teachers I don't really see what the problem is

I don't get this

If she is slagging off the school shouldn't what she is saying be taken into account? Bloody hell, if someone who WORKED at my kid's school was slagging it off, I'd be all ears. Don't really think you want this sort of thing gagged, tbh.

We had a horrific situation sometime ago when a parent when to the head with something she had overhead.
Unfortunatly what she overheard was firstly private and secondly taken way out of context. What ensued was foul for all concerned as the Head blew a gasket publically (however much I like her, it wasn't handled well) and the parent who had been misquoted was utterly devastated.
A really really nasty situation which only came about as someone well meaning wanted to protect the school - therefore leave well alone!

If she was slagging it off to a newspaper reporter then I'd tell the head. Otherwise I would keep my nose out. We all offload now and again.
