as that is what happened to me today and the mother's words were it is only a little push what is your problem? It was a deliberare aggressive shove.

Had to then put up with boys mother screaming at me down the phone and saying well if it is assault call the police then you fucking silly bitch

twinset, why would your HT object to your calling the police?

twinsetandpearls · 12/12/2007 01:33

He may not TBh lots of schools like to deal with things in house, we have police in school to deal with incidents so there will be police involvement.

I do quite a lot of work with children, and yes, I have been sworn at and pushed from time to time. However, these have normally been heat-of-the-moment things and going ballistic with the police wouldn't have helped anyone. Children do lose their tempers and do things they wouldn't have done otherwise.

On the other hand, I have also had to deal with some quite deliberate and aggresive violence - which in one case, for example, resulted in a 12 year old and a 14 year old being arrested for breach of the peace.

I definitely don't think you should let this lie, but police actin should only be the last resort after sorting this out yourself or having the school deal with it. Of course if it's one of a series of events these two strikes may already have happened ...

Sorry, maybe not much help. Good luck!

I hope you get good advice from your union. Fwiw something very similar happened to an ex-colleague of mine, and the pupil was excluded for a term (though he got a place at a PRU quite easily; not sure how possible that is in your LEA) and never allowed into the teacher's class even when he returned.

I think it's incumbent on your HT to demonstrate very clearly that this will not be tolerated. Not sure how I'd feel about involving police though.

Inform your line manager, verbally and in writing. Send a cc of the letter to your union.

You must make a formal report of this for a wide range of reasons.

a. To protect yourself, from further assault and possible accusation from the child/parent
b. To protect other students/ members of staff from a child who cannot control their behavior.
c.To protect the child.....if this is reported the child may change his behaviour/ get the help needed to control anger etc.

You cannot let this ride, you must report it.

Keep a detailed log of all your contracts with the child and the parent.

immediatly did all of the both , he is excluded and I won't be teaching him again.

That's good Twinset. One of our girls pushed a member of staff today - she has got a 2 day exclusion. And your comments about WHY you teach, earlier in the thread, were so lovely. I'm glad this hasn't put you off teaching - it's a great job isn't it? One of my ex-pupils came in today and told me that she's thinking of training to be an English teacher - things like that make it all worthwhile, don't they? Glad it's worked out okay for you.

It hasn't put me off and I also loving where I teach ATM although that may be the rose tinted spectacles you get when you know you are leaving.

Our SMT would have brought the police in over this. Without a doubt.

Just to cheer you up.....am also a teacher and know all about stroppy parents. A few years ago a parent managed to get into our school (through the cctv, go into one of the classrooms and started to laying into the about their little darling in front of an entire class

fizzbuzz · 12/12/2007 21:56

Laying into the teacher of course

twinsetandpearls · 12/12/2007 22:01

we have had a parent wonder in and punch a teacher!

Of course it's assault. Appalling. Talk to your union rep and see about taking it further.

ItWasOnlyAWintersTellus · 12/12/2007 22:04

We had a parent come in and attack another child. That I did find completely shocking. And for that the school did involve the police.

WiFi · 13/12/2007 22:36

I certainly didn't. In fact, I am honestly surprised by friends who teach. They seem to just put up with it and have no support whatsoever.

I just hope that any children who come from my family respect teachers for what they are. Absolute wonders!
