as that is what happened to me today and the mother's words were it is only a little push what is your problem? It was a deliberare aggressive shove.

Had to then put up with boys mother screaming at me down the phone and saying well if it is assault call the police then you fucking silly bitch

Useful comments about this sort of issue here

how old was the pushy-swearing child?

fairylights · 11/12/2007 18:51

not read all posts but i am a law student and what happened to you is technically assault and battery (an assault just needs to be the imminent threat of violence - honestly, i didn't know that either!)
at the very least your head should spell out to the parents of this kid that they COULD go to the police..
i have worked in a school with lots of that kind of thing going on though and its amazing how SMT just get blase about such things. Hope you get a resolution.

Eliza we had two teachers being bitten by a pupil last week and I am one of two pupil assaults on a teacher this week.

We went through a phase last year of teachers property being stolen, I would never have my handbag anywhere near the kids. Anything of value in our school walks.

13 or 14 flack.

I have been supported, the boy has been excluded for 3 days and will no longer be in my lessons.

She was probably aggressive because she was mortified and embarrassed by his behaviour. Loads of people become aggressive when they are on the defensive like this.

He needs it spelled out that this is unacceptable behaviour; and charming mother needs to know that if the relationship between herself and the school has broken down (which it has if she will not support you) then her child will be excluded.

twinsetandpearls · 12/12/2007 00:33

was told today she has a history of being agressive as does her husband but in his case it is physical aggression rather than just words.

If you are a teacher, then I can only say bring back the cane. I would be horrified if any of my children treated anyone in this way.

WiFi · 12/12/2007 00:43

I have just read the link from above and as I know teachers who are terrified to bring back corporal punishment, I now know why. God forbid, my teens ever want to become teachers.

twinsetandpearls · 12/12/2007 00:46

I would not want to see the cane back at school, although some older colleagues that I work with who used to use the cane are very insistent it would sort out our problems.

I know teachers who have been threatened etc, and now, reading that forum, I feel very sorry for anyone who wants to teach. From that, I can only assume what is the point. Which is a shame for the few people who genuinely want to share their knowledge......

amytheearwaxbanisher · 12/12/2007 00:59

although it is asault from the carry on of the mother its clear where the boy gets it from if i did that in school...i dred to think what they would have done with me

slim22 · 12/12/2007 01:01

makes you wonder why some people send their kids to school at all?

Tortington · 12/12/2007 01:03

the cane is definatley not the way to go.

the police should have been called.

in a perfect world the boy would be excluded and made to pick litter from railway lines for 2weeks.

WiFi · 12/12/2007 01:04

Probably to get childcare Slim, judging from what I have read on that forum

twinsetandpearls · 12/12/2007 01:06

I don;t want you to feel sorry for me I love my job and am well paid for it with great holidays, I appreciate those things are luxuries many people don't have.

amytheearwaxbanisher · 12/12/2007 01:07

didnt think you were moaning or looking for unnessicery sympathy at all

slim22 · 12/12/2007 01:09

honestly, makes me that some people just wash their hands of all parental commitment and expect teachers to do the job (and take the abuse) rather than teach.

WiFi · 12/12/2007 01:10

Just in case any teachers out there don't think that they do not have my sympathy.

Next weeks headlines 'Teacher who caned child gets gunned down by parents'.

I think we should all home educate immediately.

twinsetandpearls · 12/12/2007 01:12

I don't think people thought I was but it worries me when I read comments like God forbid my teens become teachers or I feel sorry for anyone who wants to teach. It is a fabulous job and we need good teachers.

amytheearwaxbanisher · 12/12/2007 01:14

they mean well if not strongly worded

WiFi · 12/12/2007 01:15

I agree, but when you are all faced with such awful situations, who will want their children to go into that career. It is becoming a very dangerous one at the moment. Especially at Senior School level.

I think you are fantastic to want to teach children. Full stop

amytheearwaxbanisher · 12/12/2007 01:18

i wouldnt have the patients either ds winds me up at times and i love him!

slim22 · 12/12/2007 01:20

I could not help telling some parents how crap they are!

twinsetandpearls · 12/12/2007 01:22

I know WiFi does not meant to offend but it is important that teaching is recognised as yes a difficult job but also as one of the most rewarding ever.

I had such a lovely day today, infact two things happened today that made me feel so proud i welled up.
