Help!! Not sure about how to give notice to leave prep

My dd is having a miserable time this term so far and just seems to be struggling with a strict new teacher. I have no issues with strictness personally but dd seems to find it very hard.

There are longer term concerns with the prep school as well and how well they support her with her personal struggles.

She may have asd (assessment about to start) so doesn’t deal well with change.

We are terrified that if we pull her out now to another local school( 3-18) with a place and she doesn’t settle then she’s going to be worse off than she is now.

Can we move her and just keep paying the fees to the first school as well, then move her back if it isn’t working in the new school? She isn’t great socially and at least has some friends in the first school.

I’m really scared and at my wits end for what to do. Any advice you have I would be really grateful

Can you not just ask to have her moved to a different class?

@EllieNBeeb unfortunately it’s a tiny prep single form entry Sad

STOP. Assess your child for ASD first then make decisions. My very high functioning ASD child struggles at the start of every new school year , with new teachers moving school won’t change this. If your child is assessed as having ASD you need to find a school that has experience and really understands ASD children. Friendships and happiness can be very different for an autistic child actually you need to make sure they have a good learning environment. Small class sizes are good in terms of learning but can make a ASD child stand out more and less likelihood of having friendships with similar minded children.

My DC had loads of friends in his prep school but hates it but I looked at loads of schools for secondary and found a mainstream school with excellent learning support, friendships maybe harder to form but he is much happier.

You need to know first whether your child has ASD or any other learning difficulties and then decide the right school.

@redpandaalert you couldn’t be more right and we have an assessment pending.

Once you register at the new school you're bound to give a term's notice - so if you go in on day one of next term and don't like it, you still have to pay the summer term.

@pianolessons1 I have that greatly in mind. Thinking to use our savings to give dd a route back as otherwise her place would be taken I think
