Boarding Sixth Form Film Studies

My DD is looking for a full boarding sixth form that has a strong film department. Somewhere with good facilities in film studies! Somewhere also with a great english department.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

My daughter hated Tring and decided not to apply.

Plus the fact that their funding was no where near as good as where she went to and their boarding fees were twice the cost (without scholarships)

DD was interested but Tring park is very driven towards performing arts. Not doing it would be quite unusual and make you a bit of an outsider. The dc go to universities because they don’t get work. It’s a back up to the career they signed up to do at the age of 11 for many.

@Comefromaway - yawn, yes we know your daughter didn’t like Tring when she went there for a course.

The Op asked about theatre studies, you actually suggested Tring, op was concerned re the English department so I relayed DDs experiences.

Other students dislike Hammond, that doesn’t make it a bad choice, just not the right choice for all DC.

Many Tring students go straight into PA careers/training, others enjoy everything a PA school can offer but decide not to follow a career in it.
For others it’s something they really would like to do but accept that they can’t access the training just yet.

All sixth formers study performing arts at Tring, so as I said initially you would need to have talent and skill to be offered a place. Academic lessons run until lunchtime, then it’s vocational courses in the afternoon. Apart from some of the dancers, all the students study 3 A levels which is quite unusual for this type of school and does mean it’s a long day and a lot of work.

But as I tried to say the academic offering is also very good. Given the OP didn’t suggest her DD wanted to be in a PA school it’s probably not the right choice for her.

You can yawn all you like. I was having a conversation on a forum, things often meander. I recommended Tring & Arts Ed as I know the academics are excellent (more so at Tring I’ve no direct experience of Arts Ed) and I figured a child who wanted to do Film Studies and for whom Hurtwood was a consideration might actually be interested in performing arts.

I wouldn’t recommend Royal or Elmhurst as those schools are very specific and would clearly be unsuitable.
