A thread for boarding school parents 2020

Have we got such a thread?
I did look but couldn’t see one.
If we haven’t wouldn’t anyone like to join me in this thread to support each other during these strange times. Getting a child off to boarding school is hard enough anyway for so many reasons but it’s decidedly more difficult at this time.
How are you all doing?

ARBL

Looking to send my 11 year Child to either Wellington Academy or Duke of York Royal Military School. Any pointers and advise? Which is better?

Hi - apologies for not responding earlier. If you haven't already, it would probably be a good idea to start your own thread in the Education topic? Good luck :)

Hello all
I come on and read occasionally but don’t have much to say.

I was wondering if any of you find that yours don’t want to do anything during the holidays. Mine don’t and I feel bad at trying to make them as they just want to be home. I go stir crazy though,

Hi all, I hope you had a good break with your DC? While DS was on holiday last week, four of his Y7 boarders group tested positive for Covid. Three of them are in the same dorm (the parents of the fourth child aren't in our whatsapp group so we don't know about him) and the fourth seems to be random.

DS took three lateral flow tests last week, including one each on Saturday and yesterday before he returned to school and was negative each time. It's scary stuff, but at least all the boys so far have had very mild / non-existent symptoms. DH and I are assuming it's come into the house from a day boy.

Any outbreaks in your schools?

Nothing in ours - in fact only one positive case in March (think a member of peri staff).
There is a case this week, in the boarding school my husband teaches at. Apparently the student hasn't come into close contact with ANY member of staff, which I find hard to believe.

Any idea where I can buy a good quality fire retardant duvet and topper please?

Hi all - hope you’ve had a lovely summer with your DC. DS can’t wait to go back next Sunday but I think I will be in shock for a couple of weeks!

Sparticle · 01/09/2021 11:46

Well we've just dropped DS's clothes etc back at school. Luckily he could leave all his bedding and towels etc there over the holidays. He seemed pretty happy with who else has been allocated to his dorm and is now very excited about Sunday :)
