So who is secretly (or not so secretly) feeling sick to their stomach about their 'baby' going to school next week?

Me

I think it's great.

Am planning to head to the nearest branch of Caffe Nero with a pile of newspapers, and hole up for a good hour or two. What's not to like?

nutcracker · 28/08/2007 17:31

Me

Had a nightmare the other night and in it I forgot to collect him at hometime.

DANCESwithDumbledore · 28/08/2007 17:35

I will have no one at home, not one single person and I am dreading it, plus he is my baby, I don't want him to go.

tiredemma · 28/08/2007 17:37

Dont want ds2 to go. He doesnt seem 'ready'.

DANCESwithDumbledore · 28/08/2007 17:43

Ah, these are the desperate cries I was hoping for (IYKWIM) DD is only 4yrs 2 months, she seems so young and I will miss her!

Me! I started this thread about it over the weekend, but couldn't drum up much interest. 'Leave it, policywonk', they said. 'No-one's that bothered.'

Reallytired · 28/08/2007 17:49

You will be surprised how quickly most children adapt. Reception is very similar to nursery. Over the next three terms it will gradually become more and more like a conventional classroom.

My son loved reception and I am hoping he will enjoy year 1 just as much.

JeremyVile · 28/08/2007 17:50

(I read it PW, but didn't want to say as DS is only 17 months , I had to do that keep-blinking-really-fast-thing! I've saved it as a favourite so I can torture myself with it in (gulp) 3 years time.)

DANCESwithDumbledore · 28/08/2007 17:58

GAWD..I knew I should have read that

Ta, JV.

DANCESwithDumbledore · 28/08/2007 17:58

RT - this is all even more embarassing as I'm a teacher, I know what reception is like and I know dd will love it!

I'm absolutely thrilled about it. DD is soooo ready for school, and I still have little DS at home so not too much of a tug at the ol' heartstrings.

rantinghousewife · 29/08/2007 11:49

I'm with the can't wait crowd, bizarrely much more nervous about the eldest starting Upper School next week.

eleusis · 29/08/2007 11:54

I can't wait. She looks so cute in her big girl uniform and shiny new shoes (which I gave in and let her wear today so they will probably be scuffed for school).

Actually, I am a horrible mum. Before I knew the school calendar I booked a Mon-Fri midweek break for DH and myself. And so as it turns out I won't even be there for the first week. I feel a bit bad about it, but I'm not throwing away my holiday. Besides she was in the nursery at the school last year and so it's not really like a first day of school, more like the first day of the next year.

WaynettaSlob · 29/08/2007 11:58

My DS1 will be 4 this week, and is off to school next week

greenday · 29/08/2007 12:04

Me! My DD starts pre-school and I 'mourn' for the end of her carefree days.
I'm about to give birth anytime now and I feel so sad for her - just the fact that a sibling is making an appearance soon and she's being 'packed off' to school as well. Irrational, I know .. but still ... sob!

nutcracker · 29/08/2007 12:12

This time next week, I will have just collected Ds from his first ever morning at school

urgh, you just reminded me I haven't finished labelling her stuff. I feel sick.

Bad working mum alert - dd has been going to nursery fulltime and will continue to go fulltime nursery right up to the day before she starts school. School will be a walk in the park for her - halfday really.

She is so proud to start at her "big girls' school" and the status associated with "graduating" from nursery. I am very happy for her.

MrsWeasley · 29/08/2007 13:09

I feel sick about it too trouble is my "babies" are 6, 8, 10& 12. I love school holidays they are just tooooooooooooooo short
