I don't understand my child's results! Is "achieved standard" the highest they can get? Child got 112 but comment says, "achieved standard" yet accompanying letter says 110 is, " greater depth". Please help me interpret this.

Best to speak to the teacher really.

Ilikesweetpeas · 09/07/2019 16:48

I just want to know whether, "greater depth" is something which is reported to parents or not. A year 6 teacher will be able to tell me!

AlunWynsKnee · 09/07/2019 16:51

I seem to remember 'Greater Depth' can only be given for one of the tests. I don't think maths has it.

ourkidmolly · 09/07/2019 16:51

Yes 110 is greater depth and achieved standard. How come you received them so quickly?

Ilikesweetpeas · 09/07/2019 16:59

They have come home today with the report. I'm just confused because the blurb says "greater depth" is 110 but on the sheet with the scores it says "achieved standard". I'm just wondering if that is all that gets reported on the official sheet? If any y6 teachers can help I'd be grateful

We got ours today since today is the day SATs results came out.

110 is greater depth so if the child got that or above they got GD. I don't think they give GD in maths, just the two English ones.

MyOtherProfile · 09/07/2019 17:02

What did they get 112 in?

Ilikesweetpeas · 09/07/2019 17:10

112 in English reading

OP posts:
MyOtherProfile · 09/07/2019 17:21

Ok yes that's greater depth

ourkidmolly · 09/07/2019 17:24

Yes they come out today but most schools are still analysing them and that's a quick turnaround.

Greater depth is available in all 4 areas. Scaled score is always 110. Apart from writing where it's the teachers' judgments.

MyOtherProfile · 09/07/2019 21:03

Schools can give them out and still continue to analyse them. That's what our school does.

SophyStantonLacy · 09/07/2019 21:06

We got ours today. My DD reports she got ‘greater depth’ in all three but maybe she’s mistaken? she got 110 in Maths, 112 in GPS or whatever it’s called, 117 in Reading. I googled it & apparently 100 is the pass mark & 110 is ‘greater depth’...

SophyStantonLacy · 09/07/2019 21:07

Oh I see upthread you can get GD in all subjects.

LikeACompleteUnknown · 10/07/2019 15:54

I thought they only issued the official GDS score a bit later (though it always seems to end up being 110!). If you Google 2019 SATS scaled scores you can find the raw/scaled score conversion tables, which I always find quite interesting.

Ithinkmycatisevil · 10/07/2019 17:31

Our school gives a SATs result and then also a teacher assessment mark which they send to the secondary school along with the SATs mark. So a kid could normally be working at greater depth, but have a bad day on the day they take the SATs and not achieve it, the teacher would then still mark them in their end of year report as greater depth as they know they’ve been working at it all term.

Same if a child does better than expected in the tests, but the teacher knows that they haven’t consistently been working at that level, they would give them a teacher assessment mark of the level they generally work at, whatever that may be.

Could this be what’s happened?

twinnedtoiletlady · 10/07/2019 17:37

My dd got greater depth in 3 areas according to her teacher - 118, 114 & 113. Not fully understanding the scaled or raw scores but know she's done well and she's v pleased (as is her teacher).
School has been doing loads of booster sessions and have really put a lot of effort into the top set of pupils to up their level. I've found it v unpleasant to watch as the head just wants a better Ofsted rating by showing they are doing enough for top set (which was a critique at last ofsted report).
I'm not a fan of sats, and wish they would just get tested unannounced so you get a true picture...

Zinnia · 10/07/2019 19:30

@twinnedtoiletlady congratulations to your DD. I hope she's feeling proud of her achievements after so much hard work.

To be fair to your Head, it's not her/his fault the system is the way it is. If the school has been told to do something by Ofsted, they can't just ignore it even if they disagree with the judgement.

SoUnsettled2 · 10/07/2019 20:27

My daughter got 120 in SPAG, 110 in reading and 110 in maths. Is that GD for all 3?

OpenYourEyes · 10/07/2019 20:33

Our school said they can only get greater depth in writing and the rest is either Achieved or Working Towards and that's that. Seems not from reading this thread.

Bokky · 10/07/2019 20:43

Unsettled - 120 is an amazing score, the highest possible. You've a very clever DD on your hands!

MyOtherProfile · 10/07/2019 21:19

Our school gives a SATs result and then also a teacher assessment mark which they send to the secondary school along with the SATs mark

I've yet to see a secondary school that takes any notice of either SATs or primary teacher assessment when placing children.

@OpenYourEyes definitely not the case.

ShowOfHands · 10/07/2019 21:26

Dd got 120, 120 and 120 last year.

Then high school ignored all scores as far as possible and did their own assessments throughout year 7!

user1494670108 · 10/07/2019 21:31

We got ours yesterday. The teacher assessments are the ones that have "met Expectations". The SATS scores are then given raw and scaled. I didn't know until I read it here that a scaled score was 110 or over but that makes a lot of sense

welliesarefuntowear · 10/07/2019 21:46

What is expected standard? My son got 92 in reading 86 in grammar and 89 in maths. He has had a lot of intervention and made tons of progress. Is the average or expected standard 100? If so, I would be quite pleased with his results, particularly the reading as he is dyslexic.

Ithinkmycatisevil · 10/07/2019 22:08

@MyOtherProfile

If they take no notice of either SATs or primary teachers reports, then how do they place the children on the first day of y7?

DD1 was in a set for core subjects, set by ability from day one. They didn’t do any of their own testing until October. Surely if they took no notice of SATs or primary teachers then they would have had no idea where the children should be placed. They clearly had some idea as most of the kids stayed in their original set!

DD2s teacher always says they pay more attention to the teachers report than the SATs results, as the teacher report is about how the child has preformed day in down out, not just a snap shot on one day.
