I received my first ever DCs school report today. It's all really positive - she has lots of friends, cares for others, creative, confident, enthusiastic etc. It's such a relief to know that everything is going well.

In terms of those Early Learning Goals bar chart things she's nearly all number 8s, with a 9, a couple of 7s and a 4 for writing. All sounds fine to me. (and if it's not, keep it to yourself ).

but I must admit, I'm relieved mine appear happy at school. I hated school, I really did so I breathe a sigh of relief that mine are quite happy to go every day tbh!

FennelpolyjuicedintoMandrake · 19/07/2007 11:01

Foxinsocks, I think that's the only thing I really care about their education at the moment, my 7 and 5yo like school and are happy and enthusiastic about it.

What's wrong with preferring to read? I spent huge amounts of time in my primary years reading books under the desk, ignoring the more boring things going on around me. Reading was one of the great pleasures of my childhood.

Ellbell · 19/07/2007 11:03

Well said on the SATS thread, Enid. (I am not even going there...)

foxinsocks · 19/07/2007 11:03

yes, it was for both dh and I too!

Enid · 19/07/2007 11:04

happy children who love burying themselves in a book

what's not to like?

your kids always sound fab foxy

foxinsocks · 19/07/2007 11:07

thank you . fwiw, I always think dd would fit right in with your lot - they could prance around the garden like ponies and be perfectly content!

Enid · 19/07/2007 11:13

until dd1 gets her stopwatch out and plans a tortuous show jumping style obstacle course (cue dd2 crumpled to the ground while dd1 barks 'three faults for a refusal )

foxinsocks · 19/07/2007 11:18

lol

Filchymindedvixen · 19/07/2007 11:21

my ds hates school with a passion. He is 9. He is extremely enthusiastic about tomorrow as they get to take toys in and finish early ! So the fact that he got a nice comment on his report has cheered me up enormously. (every morning we have sulks, tears and tantrums and it has been like this for 4 years...)
He hates reading too But I have discovered a stack of beano and Dandy annuals in a local charity shop for 50p each and they do look so wholesome curled up on their beds withg a stack of comics and an apple - reminds me of my summer holidays as a child

Gingerbear · 19/07/2007 11:22

we are very happy with DD's report

TheDuchessOfFawkesBride · 19/07/2007 16:30

Am enjoying reading all your posts. Will keep away from any competitiveness on SAT thread - I had show-off mum at a coffee morning earlier, she was dreadful. I'm always pleased to hear happy parents having a bit of a crow (hence thread) but this woman discussed in detail every single one of her PFBs top marks. When all the other mums had busied themselves with their DCs and tried to escape to the garden, she just yelled louder so we wouldn't miss out.

Now DD1 and I are off to meet her Year 1 teacher.

from dd2's report (y1): "P.E.: She is trying to skip, hop and jump; and sometimes manages to leave the floor." bless her.

LordVenger · 19/07/2007 16:38

"This term, Dora has learned how to construct a joint." I presume this has been her project of making a robot, but in inner London, one can't be sure.

geekgirl · 19/07/2007 16:39

LOL LV

katelyle · 19/07/2007 16:41

On my ds's self assessment bit he wrote

What I am good at - football
What I need to work at - telling the time
What I like- - chocolate brownies

I thin they might have meant what lesson he likes, but hey, I like his thinking!

fridayschild · 19/07/2007 17:18

DS1's nursery has noted that he has made lots of friends with the boys in the class. This is a carefully worded report - not with the children, just with the boys. At least it's him they're talking about though, there is No Way he is going to play with a girl...

Filchymindedvixen · 19/07/2007 17:49

LV . Ds2 told me the year 6 kids had sex in the hall last week with the headmistress. He's not looking forward to it when he's in Yr 6....
Cue raised eyebrow til I worked out he meant THE sex education talk . Phew.

hoxtonchick · 19/07/2007 17:51

ds got a lovely report, i'm very proud of him. he's got lots of friends, is very caring & learning a lot. the head said he was a credit to the school!

he is delighted as he got the most evil lightsabre we could find as a reward .

OrmIrian · 19/07/2007 20:02

Ah, the practical approach filthy! How commendable Might put him off for life.

mumblechum · 20/07/2007 14:00

Well, ds's new school have got the measure of him all right.

Eg Geography "When cornered,* mumbleson will give an intelligent and incisive answer"

English "mumbleson is a very sharp young man who is very capable. If he took more active part in lessons he would do extremely well"

Translation - Mumbleson farts around with his mates at the back of the class all day long and doesn't believe in exercising his brain too frequently

Am I bovvered? When the chips are down and it's exam time he'll do the necessary, in the meantime I'm just glad he's enjoying himself.

meandmyflyingmachine · 20/07/2007 14:03

I like the sound of the geography teacher

Smithagain · 21/07/2007 19:55

Apparently DD1 (aged 4.11) is "very articulate". We are not sure if this translates as "it is difficult for us teachers to get a word in edgeways".

And she "enjoys" all sorts of PE-type things, but they have very carefully avoided saying whether she is any good at them LOL!

Mamamoor · 21/07/2007 20:04

dd (5) 'has a very good general knowledge which she is keen to share!!!'
Also apparently having particular friends has meant that she does not concentrate in class!! ffs she is only 5 - do any on them really concentrate for long at that age! She/they are not disruptive in any way! Teacher seems to have had it in for dd and her 2 particular friends since they arrived from nursery - the upshot of this is that she has been separated from them in Year 1. Are they not allowed friends anymore?

Chipstick · 21/07/2007 20:26

DD6 - couldn't have wished for a better report except the comment

'does not work well in groups as always wants to be in charge'

Can't imagine for one moment where she gets that from

whiskersonkittens · 23/07/2007 23:29

I have heard it all now - dd is a 'role model for her peers' - can a teacher please translate

Serioulsy am very pleased with her report - nothing bad at all on it

Ds not so good but you can tell the teacher has not really 'got' him so not too worried as the main comments are on lack of concentration (in a 4 year old ) and similar things.
