Independent school bursaries

My DC has finished her 11plus exam and got quite high score. People ask me why not try independet schools but simply we can't afford it. Our single income is about 100k and we own 2 properties so partial bursaries might be offered but not full I guess.
Some people say if the kids are super smart and talented then no matter what income is they will be entitled to 100% bursaries. I actually checked this with several school websites but they only wrote the bursaries are totally up to each house's financial matter. Does anyone know about this? Or any experience?

I know that some parents who are self employed cheat on their income and apply for full bursaries. I am in a foreign community and we are quite open about private stuffs with each other so I am aware of these. My DC's friend's parents own a company but they receive cash only so could get full bursary from top private. I know they spent 1k for tutiin every month and every term holiday they travel abroad. Another parents I know owns 4storey building but registered as low income. They will also apply for full bursary.
I feel its quite unfair and when they are entitled to full bursaries they say it's because of their children's ability only.
I know its not my business but I feel a bit down. ConfusedSad

It shows how they are all different.
Ours just asks for income and you are awarded on this.
School don't care what you drive or how you spend your money.
It doesn't matter whether you live in a mansion or shoe box, Bursaries are solely awarded on income.

The other thing that I have seen happen is that parents are actually paying fees or a big chunk of them, but telling people that their children have won large scholarships (rather than small) or have bursaries. They might not be cheating the school at all, just misleading you!

I agree most families are honest. I love England/English people because I feel that they basically trust each other. Unfortunately there are cheaters. When I mentioned they cheated on their income, it wasn't my assumption but was heard from themselves.
They're not silly -when they transfer massive amount of money abroad they wouldn't use their own account. They can easily use accounts for students they know. A family who owns a building rent each offices makig 10kpm cash but it's under their business account and showing themselves low income.

I started this thread because many people around me engouraged(?) me to apply for bursaries saying if my DC is smart enough I will get some or full. I know I won't receive much and owe can't prioritize our income for DC since we support poor family-in-law financially. I still feel lucky that my DC can get in one of superselective. However, I was annoyed that people are getting benefit with fake info and depriving it from real smart/pook kids. I felt like complaining and gossiping them little bit. Blush
Although people seems not to trust or agree with me I feel much better after spilling the beans. Grin Everyone has got a different way of life. Wishing my DC do good in her next school... Wink

As someone who has two children on bursaries I can tell you that it is very difficult to ‘fiddle’ it. We have to reapply every year and submit detailed financial statements. And if the school’s bursar can find a spare £45k a year for fees in our finances I’d be very happy indeed. It is tough to get one if you own property- we don’t, we rent our house. You are expected to remortgage and raise the money that way if you own property.
