Would be interested to hear from anyone whose child/children attend Queensmead School Windsor. Secondary years. What’s the school like and is there bullying if yes how is it handled? Thank you

Snorlax100 · 31/03/2018 19:49

We're looking at Queensmead as well :) Not decided yet.

Grandmanat16 · 01/04/2018 11:33

Thank you we decided quite quickly due to extreme and constant bullying of my grandson and disarray, at his previous school. It was too dangerous to send him back. About 60+ children left his old school end of this term and from what I can gather another large bunch leaving end summer term. Really liked Qm. . Spoke to other parents, loved the fact teachers don’t shout. Smile. Loved their bullying policy. Spoke to a number of children on our visit there too. He starts 17 April Good luck eith your decision

Which School were your grandchildren at previously?

575smg · 17/05/2018 11:37

We have been there for couple of years, but we moved our children as the school is not how it used to be. only around 60 kids left and teachers are going every term. we have some friend who they plan to move also from there. I would not recommend it as when you go to see the school it is just a show, problems start after that. We moved ours to Upton.

Well said. The school also claims to be Roman Catholic but this could not be further from the truth. There has been no diocesan inspection. No links with the local parish. So where is the evidence of Catholicity?

Proactive37 · 04/07/2018 09:52

I was wondering why the school hasn’t increased it’s numbers since the change in name? Considering the prime location and the advertised incentives you have to wonder why no one wants to go there. The car park is virtually empty and the job adverts are frequent.

Proactive37 · 09/07/2018 21:38

More jobs going at Queensmead!

My advice would be to steer well clear of this school from a parents perspective. The recent emergency Ofsted report has only just scratched the surface. You don’t need to be a genius to work out why the turnaround of staff is so high.

Litmustest · 22/07/2018 16:28

Such a shame. This used to be such a lovely school.

Angelbmiran · 30/07/2018 21:10

Those that were looking what did you decide? I've just viewed it for my two kids aged 6 and 13. I wasnt impressed tbhConfused need to find schools asap now looking at LVS ascot but would prefer queensmead location

CraftyGin · 06/08/2018 16:14

There’s no good reason to go there, imo.

Orange712 · 08/10/2018 13:55

Considered leaving the school due to the staff retention but wanted to give it a chance as the children really love the school and for mine in particular, I have seen great academic and social progress. There is no bullying at all at the school which is really something. We decided to give it the autumn term before deciding on our next move. Now that we are nearly half way through I think it is fair to say that the newly recruited staff are strengthening the reputation of the school due to recent events (iss/ofsted report and staff leaving). All the issues that we were concerned about seem to have been turned around and the school appears to be actively taking on board recommendations from the report.

If all continues as it is, we are planning on staying put for the long haul.

Proactive37 · 06/11/2018 20:08

How many pupils are there at the school now? Are they still merging Year groups? Do they have pupils in every Year group? Are there specialist teachers for every subject as there should be in an independent school?

Flower666 · 08/11/2018 07:45

Hiii, I’m thinking to put my kids in for next term...is anyone attending the presentation on Saturday? Would love more feedback particularly on junior school

picklebanter · 09/11/2018 12:19

Hello, I am going on Saturday to the open morning. My children went to Upton but my youngest probably wont survive the 'girls' schools in Ascot and may need something a bit more gentle like QM. She has a EHCP plan. I do have a friend who recently moved her son there and he is loving it and thriving. This was in the upper years as he was unhappy at his previous school. I think we have to be open minded, realise that they are making changes and continuing to make improvements....

CraftyGin · 17/11/2018 02:37

How was the Open Morning?

Veritas16 · 01/12/2018 08:35

This school is advertising for another Head Teacher for January . Why?

CraftyGin · 01/12/2018 13:27

Where is that information coming from? There is a Head of Junior School vacancy, but this is not the same as Headteacher.

Veritas16 · 01/12/2018 19:34

It was advertised in The Guardian jobs.

Veritas16 · 01/12/2018 19:37

If you look at the reference 'QM' and the general description it is obviously Queensmead.

The headteacher has had some issues with his health - www.windsorobserver.co.uk/news/17277653.queensmead-school-windsors-head-of-education-simon-larter-to-step-down/

He lives in Devon and commutes weekly, so it seems the plan was always to step down at some point in 2019. Great chap. In our experience, he has been a very good head of education. Sad to see him go. He has an open door policy and has supported children well since we joined the school.

Children adore the school, which is a lot in our case as previous school was absolute nightmare. Other kids seem happy too. Most are very kind, which is good. Staff will bend over backwards to help in most cases and the fact they are small means they know pupils relatively well. Very caring.

I myself would like to see more pupils joining the school as my child moves on to secondary as it is still quite empty. They had some good results exam wise, so I suppose small numbers worked to their benefit. If they do their work properly they could become an outstanding school. Hearts are in the right place, but there will need to be heavy investment in facilities, SEN, etc.

Veritas16 · 17/12/2018 17:13

It's surprising that this school is still not returning deposits to parents who have left.
