for last few years have done toys/ book stall...get to see a lot of pleased children spending their money and just have to stand there and talk to people, nice really.

helenmc - on the craft stall (for Christmas) we had light-catcher decorations and cards (glass paint on OHP transparencies), lots of gorgeous beady things (decorations, mermaids, angels hairslides etc) very fiddly to make as the beads were tiny. Some fantastic knitter made gorgeous baby shoes. Notebooks (like the one I sent benjaminsmummy for a swap!), wool men and octopuses and girly faces made out of old tights and wool with faces sewn on and small enough to wear as badges. Lavender bags.

We also got loads of stuff from Baker Ross and had a DIY area so kids could come and make their own things, keyrings, decorate mugs, badges...

While we're on the subject, do any other schools have cake sales? Each year has one sale a year. The class parents make or buy cakes etc which get sold on a stall after school. We had ours today. Charged a flat rate of 25p for a cake and 10p for biscuits and in half an hour we made £130. Each class gets to choose how to spend the money, usually on some fun rather than educational outing.

Wish me luck for the morning and good weather. The Summer fair is tomorrow and I'll be there at 9.30am to set up. Hopefully leaving some time around four to get to the Manchester Maniacs meetup.

Good luck

helenmc · 25/06/2004 21:43

posey - could you e-mail me details for the notebooks and the beady things. We did a load of plaster decorations which we glitter glued for the xmas bazaar - and managed £60 (ok its held on a friday afternoon and not many parents come, and send their darlings with a couple of quid to spend and its only 350 kids including the seniors).

Jaybee- I really want to do the sand art - how much did you charge and was it a real headache keeping things sepaarate

Our school won't do a soft toy tombola - you can't expect parents to spend money gambling for second hand toys. Mind you I did get some real bargains TY beanies for my girls so its not all bad news

let us know hopw you all get on tomorrow - and good luck with the weather

curlysue · 26/06/2004 08:40

It's not really 'gambling' for second hand toys! Everyone is a winner and you'd never sell them so it's a good way to get rid of them and kids love it because they win every time.

We had a cake sale and raffle at Easter and raised over £400 in an hour!

We don't get to knobble in our school. We're 'allocated'. Fairy cakes. How dull!

helenmc · 26/06/2004 21:52

curlysue - I don't know if its the gambling they don't like or the idea of second hand toys (and yes we do have a toy stall of ...second hand toys)

roisin · 26/06/2004 22:04

helenmc - will ask the other mum who was in charge of beady stuff if she has some instructions I could send you. For the notebooks, it would probably be easier to send you one as I'm useless at explaining things without diagrams! If you want me to and are happy for me to have your address, get in touch via CAT.

A good stall we had was a win every time game for all those cr*y toys you get donated, like the stuff out of Kinder eggs. We had a pack of playing cards. One suit of each colour was laid out on the table with a toy on each one. Then you paid 10p and chose a card from the remaining half. Say you picked the 9 of hearts, you won the toy off the 9 of diamonds (other red suit)
