Ragwort, the outstanding secondary may not impress you, but a require improvement secondary may make you want to move your DS immediately.
People often talk about there is no differrence between the outstanding school and the require improvement school. How can it be? I do agree you can't rely on the ofsted, but it does provide lots of information.
For Primary school, I think for a parent who can and have time to help their children, a good school is enough, and also their child can do well in a require improvement school as well. But for a parent who can't help, it's a huge difference betweeen the outstanding school and the require improvment school. Like in our city, the outstanding school has a 95% passing rate for KS2, but the require improvement school only has 50%. So if you can't help your DC, you DC is in the outstanding school, you don't need worry, you know your DC will keep up and have a solid foundation to go into the secondary school.
As for secondary school, I wouldn't go near a require improvement school. At this age, your DC's friends have much more influence on your DC than you. If you DC is in a disruptive class, it would be very hard to learn.
