Oh I see 7up - I read that line as how her kids' school make her feel if she doesn't pay up but I can see that it could be read as her views on your actions .

7up · 12/11/2006 20:31

thats ok sis

I think wordsmith's comment was directed at her DS's school for making that the subtext of their letters, 7up, rather than at you.

soapbox · 12/11/2006 20:35

No, No, No - I am sure that Wordsmith wrote it as Sis read it not as you did!

In any case I think your reponse was quite rude!

Why any one should want to post on here if that is the way you are going to respond is beyond me!

aweebitgross · 12/11/2006 20:35

Sorry, changed my name for a post on threadworms and haven't changed it back yet! lol

Don't think Wordsworth was saying anything to you 7up More that this is what her ds's school meant when sent home letters....?

DizzyBint · 12/11/2006 20:42

yes ok 7up. how odd.

and of course you stand by what you said. he's not going so he'll never know. up to you isn't it. you won't persue the options the others have suggested so you save face where you work. plus if others in the class can't be arsed either then so what. who cares. it's only a school trip. who cares. poor teachers. why not just give the kids a book about temples instead. or no better still, no books. not interested.

Toady · 12/11/2006 20:52

Have just read this thread and you are very rude 7up {{{{parp}}}}

WideWebWitch · 12/11/2006 20:57

lol at 'is it in India'

PeachyClair · 12/11/2006 21:21

FWIW, he'd have learned loads- I always find there's nothing to beat actually visiting the temples / places of congregation and the believers when it comes to understandingt he religion, and more importantly- developing a sense of worldwide community and tolerance. I missed out on a trip to a Jain temple last week, and everyone else seems to have so much mroe empathy with the belief system than I now .

Mercy · 12/11/2006 21:36

Wordsmith was commenting on the letter from her ds' school and so was I in my post immediately after.

7up · 13/11/2006 07:17

my mum isnt rude youre all horrible

Wordsmith · 13/11/2006 07:45

Thanks very much 7up, I wasn't commenting on anything you'd said at all, merely summing up the gist of what my DS's school says to the parents. What a strange person you are!

PeachyClair · 13/11/2006 10:41

all horrible?

What, ALL of us?

Without even commenting on the rest of the debate, I'm pretty narked at such a sweeping comment!

DizzyBint · 13/11/2006 12:21

wtf? 'my mum isn't rude'!!! is that 7up's son? fgs.

hulababy · 13/11/2006 12:28

I also read Wordsworth message to mean her talking about her own feelings about how her own children's school word their letters.

I think that the trip sounds like an awful lot of money, iunless it is a long way away. Coaches are exensive however - I remember booking them in past. This is also often the reason why the class/group can only go if pretty much everyone pays up, as schools don't have a great deal of money stashed away to cover the rest of the cost.

The letter should have included a break down of the costs, and what you were paying for.

FWIW I do think there was probably a lot to be learnt by the trip. Why wouldn't there be? I suspect it is also linked to some work being done at school, and will link back to that.

However it is your choice t=not to pay and not to send your child, especially if you cannot afford it.

beckybrastraps · 13/11/2006 12:33

I used to orgainise field trips for my sixth formers. They weren't cheap (residential, >£100), but no-one was excluded. If they wanted to come, we found the money. Who needs textbooks anyway?

The families were very good. If they could afford to pay, they did. If they couldn't, they paid what they could afford. If there had been too many not able (or willing) to pay - we wouldn't have gone.

lucykate · 13/11/2006 12:34

my dd was given the chance to join a lunch time french club but it was £30 so we said no. she's in reception and i know the younger they start, the easier they pick up another language but we just couldn't afford it atm. i feel bad for her as alot of her friends are doing it but since september, school has already cost a small fortune. there seems to be something every week that needs paying for.

Blu · 13/11/2006 13:17

"and what exactly is he going to learn i wonder" - LOL in the context of this thread. An ability to look at things from other people's perspectives would be the optimistic answer.....

wakeupandsmellthecoffee · 13/11/2006 18:53

my ds is going to brirish museum on Friday the trip is £ 9.5o .The museum is free its the coach that costs all the blimmin money . LOL I am going too so thats only £4.75 each .

Kelly1978 · 13/11/2006 18:59

Is it neasden mandir? They often have school visitors, so I would have thought so. We go there regularly. It is very beautiful but £14 does seem extortionate. They do have a lovely history of Hinduism exhibition though, which does have a charge, though obviously the mandir doesn't charge.
I think it is well worth visiting, since it is so lovely there, but then I would think that!

They have a website here which you could show him and talk to him about since he can't go on the trip.

PeachyClair · 13/11/2006 19:38

I think we go there next year- we went to the ashram in Carmarthenshire last year, that was amazing. We also went to raglan Buddhist centre and Cardiff Mosque and Synagogue, and you DO learn an ,ot more about the palces by being there.

7up · 13/11/2006 19:47

thanks for that kelly, the teacher today said he can learn all about it on that website. theres a few of them not going because of thecost,so they will be put in with year 8s for the day.

peachyclair, my ds wrote the message about you all being horrible, not me

wordsworth, totally misread your comments, apologies for any upsets it has caused
