I thought I would take the plunge and start early the 2015 T/W/DC/A 10+/11+ thread that has become an annual staple MN!

This thread has been inspired by the likes of (among others) Ladymuck, Seeline, SoupDragon et al, who have been an amazing resources to people like me in previous years' threads.

Although T & W tend to dominate, I have also included DC and Alleyns as I know a lot of parents these days have DC's sitting for some/all of them.

I hope this thread will continue in the spirit of previous years' thread, with the support, hand-holding and knowledge that has been the hallmark of MN generally but this thread in particular.

Let the fun begin....

Firefox thanks, I am certain they're going through people who applied for various scholarships first to get those out of the way. I know it's an excruciating wait, I woke up at 4 am today unable to sleep! But hold on, we'll get through!

Cloe489 · 16/01/2015 14:32

Had a call from T today. Phew. Regular interview scheduled for Wednesday.

tiredbetty · 16/01/2015 14:38

Congrats Olgius. W interview letter for us today. Still nothing from T. I gather 11+ sports candidates were emailed last evening re Monday.

tiredbetty · 16/01/2015 15:25

Yes, email from T for sports assessment next Tues. DS will be thrilled.

Liquorice12 · 16/01/2015 15:55

Thanks Seeline. Still nothing from T..

citymum3 · 16/01/2015 16:24

Head at DC keen to stress the improved academics is not at the expense of all the other things they do so well, still v keen on art and drama as well as sport. And there is no cull pre 6th form, which is apparently common ( in grammars as well as indies). Not there yet but the more time I spend there the more I like it ( fingers crossed for feb 12th)
Did anyone here do City? Seems like the silent school....

neanananaweek1972 · 16/01/2015 16:33

We have not heard from Trinity yet and we put in for extra curricular scholarships, which are next week. I think it will be too late on Monday to hear about them so resigned to thinking we will get the letter tomorrow....
Well done to all those who have an interview!!

Fossie · 16/01/2015 17:05

We are in the same boat neana. There is still time I'm sure. T may ring tomorrow even.

Fossie · 16/01/2015 17:17

Neana, check your email. Just got one inviting DS to extra curricular scholarship next week! No phone call!

omnishambles · 16/01/2015 17:20

Well done Fossie, bit naughty though as they said a phonecall and how are they negotiating dates over email?

Oh actually they do the sport assessment all at the same time dont they. Ignore me, I'm having a dim moment.

basildonbond · 16/01/2015 17:50

erm DC definitely do cull pre-sixth form - they all do inc the state grammars ....

the boys from dd's school who went to DC seem to have settled now (one term in) but definitely found it tougher-going to start with than the ones who went to the other local independent options (lots of tears etc)

neanananaweek1972 · 16/01/2015 17:57

Just got an email for scholarship assessment next week! Hadn't realised they would email Hmm

Hope there's more good news tomorrow for people, this is so stressful!

Seeline · 16/01/2015 17:59

T phoned us on a Saturday to arrange an interview 3 years ago so it is possible!

citymum3 · 16/01/2015 18:06

Dr Spence seemed to be using not culling as something that made DC different from the others.... Suppose there is always element if what they say and what they do not always aligning

AnotherNewt · 16/01/2015 18:15

I thought it was the old head at DC who did not cull?

I've no idea what Dr Spence's views are, but given the current level of GCSE/IGCSE there isn't really any need.

olguis · 16/01/2015 18:31

congrats to everyone who had phone calls, email
citymum we sat City too. It went well until maths which DS was unhappy about and then in a hour or so started puking and became very sick with a stomach flu! So I guess he was already ill.. I am not holding my breath about City...

citymum3 · 16/01/2015 18:41

Olly is that sounds awful, poor DS. Mine is going on Monday as he couldn't make the proper day. I am not hopeful, he's def 'over' doing exams and not paying attention anymore. Can't say I blame him.

citymum3 · 16/01/2015 18:44

Olguis! Auto correct....

Emo76 · 16/01/2015 20:13

Do you know if there is a thread for girls schools jags/Putney/Francis holland etc? DD sat FH today, the head (who spoke amazingly at the open day about girls not having to be perfect, and taking risks) was greeting the girls for the exam at the door with a handshake and a smile wishing them all good luck. Really nice touch.

AnotherNewt · 16/01/2015 20:20

Emo96 11www.mumsnet.com/Talk/secondary/2272913-Im-a-weeny-bit-cross-that-there-hasnt-been-a-SW-W-London-Independent-schools-thread-this-yr? South West and West London thread here]] Mainly girls schools, and those you list have been mentioned over there.

Emo76 · 16/01/2015 20:25

Many thanks!

Montagueterrace · 16/01/2015 22:07

Hmm Basildon, not our experience of the first term at dulwich college at all. DC been very proud and happy and enthusiastic. Have you got a child there? Just curious to see if your view was from first hand experience?

BitByBit · 17/01/2015 01:26

Nothing for us either today (Friday) (W10+) by post or email or phone. My MIL called W today and asked when letters were being sent and was told they were being done in batches this week and next confirming what others have also said.... So possibly another week of agony...

burntoutdad · 17/01/2015 12:09

Ds letter arrived today for interview next Friday. I'm sure they will be going out all week and as others have said (in our experience too) there seems to be no rhyme or reason in the order that they are sent..so hold tight for next few days!
