The thing is nurture can make a massive differences to a DCs life chances.

If parents and schools invest in lower ability DC. Encourage them to do the very best they can they can make huge differences to their life chances.

It matters not on iota if DD1 gets a B or an A* for English GCSE.

It matters hugely if a child gets a C rather than a D.

Supportive parents who could afford to support my DSIS through a secretarial course and a flexible admissions system that let her in changed her life too.

Nocomet - of course. From the report:

'One major misconception is that finding genetic influence diminishes the importance of schools: even if the heritability of educational achievement were 100%, this means that the differences in achievement between pupils are due to genetic differences between them but it would not mean that schools are unimportant.'

No, but the report should also remind Ofsted that schools can't do the impossible.

Schools can't push genetically less able students to get A* and they can't necessarily even get those very valuable Cs if good nurture isn't coming from home too.
