Do only sporty kids go to Reeds?

Can anyone give an experienced view on Reeds? How sporty do you have to be go there? My DS is not a sporty boy but is academic - we've been offered a place and am not sure that he will fit in and make friends. Likes sport just not that good.

Hahahaha

I had thought that myself it doesn't say anything about lunch money on the website as I was trawling through to work out what the 'extras' are going to be but didn't see anything so am maybe stupidly presuming they're included ?
A trip included in the fee's are you hallucinating its more than we could hope for ..... hopefully Betty will be along to put us right. never know I might have enough left to put beans on my toast ..

Teddingtonmum1 · 13/02/2014 16:14

Money that would be !! Thank god they aren't testing his mother my grammar is shocking must be because I failed the 11plus

bettys · 13/02/2014 16:21

Yes (see my previous post), lunch and the summer trip is included, but not other trips

AgaPanthers · 13/02/2014 16:29

I think they have a tuck shop and an account you can put it on.

The fees are still pricey IMO, at £16905 for Y7,8 and a slightly ludicrous £21,135 for Y9-13.

Longsuffering2 · 14/02/2014 15:44

Thank you Bettys for the info. Does your DS enjoy the Reeds food?.....this is trivial and by no means a deal breaker! Just current DS school food universally disliked - comes out each day starving.

Teddingtonmum1 · 14/02/2014 15:51

Uh oh tuck shop on account ??!!! Isn't that a disaster waiting to happen ??

AgaPanthers · 14/02/2014 16:13

depends on the depth of your budget I suppose

Teddingtonmum1 · 14/02/2014 17:10

do the boys take tuck boxes ? my DS will be a weekly boarder so he can come home and restock so to speak ...

Longsuffering2 · 14/02/2014 20:16

Agapanthers - appreciate your reality check....but stop pouring misery sauce on a big fat plate of bloody expensiveness. There's another 10 year plus left of cost for us - loads of greys and not getting younger. )-; right off for a drink.

OP posts:
Teddingtonmum1 · 14/02/2014 20:28

I try not to think about it !! plate of expensiveness if prob say shed ....

bettys · 15/02/2014 22:39

Longsuffering2 - Ds enjoys the food by and large - though he'd rather go off and play football at lunchtime. He has an account at the tuck shop - I put about £40 per term on it - he doesn't always use it all. I don't know if the boarders have tuck boxes.

As to the cost, no one's forcing you to go there if you think it's too expensive Grin

bettys · 15/02/2014 22:41

That last remark was to Agapanthers, sorry!

AgaPanthers · 16/02/2014 00:00

Well, the cost definitely put us off, DS going to Hampton.

Longsuffering2 · 16/02/2014 14:23

Did a depressing spreadsheet today - schools, costs broken down....)-: will not be ditching my username too soon. Reeds is dear, but getting the DS:School fit right is important. Mistakes are expensive also!!
Thanks for food feedback Betty's - I guess what we wouldn't need from Reeds would be a fees increase anytime too soon. Any idea Betty's when they last increased? Thanks and appreciate feedback.

Question for Betty was doing a quick add up of extra costs re uniform I know the shirts and jumper have to be school issue put am assuming people go elsewhere for trousers socks etc. and the sports kit list looks pretty long too does your DS use everything ?

bettys · 16/02/2014 17:35

Longsuffering2: Agree wholeheartedly with getting the ds:school fit right. Not much point in going to a cheaper school if it's not right. The fees have increased slightly since we started two years ago, but only marginally apart from the jump from yr 8 to yr 9 - I don't have the paperwork to hand atm.

Teddingtonmum1: School uniform is a major outlay. You can get socks & trousers elsewhere, but you will need all the sports kit (apart from cricket, don't buy that until the spring term and you only need the whites really and a box). Ring the school shop and ask about second hand stuff, I don't know if they do it but they are lovely & helpful in there. Buy everything large if you can; ds is only just this year growing out of his sports kit and I'm making him wear it to the bitter end! The sports kit seems like a lot but it all gets worn. You don't have to have the school kit bags.

Teddingtonmum1 · 16/02/2014 17:50

thanks for that Betty, am back in court with ex next month am hoping that they are going to make him stump up the extras unfortunately they can't force him to pay his share of school fee's but if that's all I have to concentrate on then that's 1 more cost off my mind. is there anything else major I'm missing I know there school trips do they always have 1 included in the fees every year ?.

bettys · 16/02/2014 18:13

Yes, the end of year trip is included, all others are optional. They do go on quite a few theatre trips, and there was a trip to the Somme this year. Costs vary from £25 to £75.

Longsuffering2 · 16/02/2014 20:28

Gosh, hat off to you Teddingtonmum for managing all this on your own - rename yourself Supermum! I have ALWAYS bought 2nd hand kit whenever I could - and normally come up trumps with a huge bag of clothes from a recent leaver for not too much dosh. They all end up losing or abusing kit anyway within a term.
We are going to revisit Reeds again early March as a final decider.....

OP posts:
Teddingtonmum1 · 17/02/2014 13:49

No not super mum just desperate to secure my DS a decent education without the cheque book so have to be a bit more determined. but thanks will be glad when its all over and I'm waving him off on the 4th sept

Longsuffering2 · 20/02/2014 20:51

We've receive a "jog" email from Reeds today....hurry and make your mind up....by 28th Feb - anyone else?

OP posts:
Teddingtonmum1 · 22/02/2014 09:10

Saw the bursar last week , am waiting for confirmation on the finances next week but have already indicated to Reeds that we are a definite yes.
Am going to enjoy my last holiday at Easter before I embrace a life of poverty.

Teddingtonmum1 · 05/03/2014 19:24

Got out offer letter Saturday chasing email Sunday morning !! Got nothing on national offer day didnt get any of our 4 choices even the new free school with no site confirmed yet gave is a big fat no, as well as Gordons state boarding in woking so despite the bursary offered being less that hoped ( isn't it always !!) off to reeds he goes ......

What did you decide long suffering ?

Teddingtonmum1 · 07/07/2014 21:07
