what level should dd1 be reaching ?

Does anybody have a clue about the levels at year 8.DD! is just finishing year nine.We have her school report which is quite pleasing, however each subject has a level (what wrong with A B C D ect !!! ).Have no idea therefore if she is average or otherwise ????????

my son has just finished / finishing year 10 and got level 8 in two of sats ....not sure if i understand it -- dd has just finished year 6 and got 5's for hers but teacher said 6's ....

She is at end of year 8 and 13 years old.

I know at Year 6 they hope that the children will achieved Level 4 in their SATS. This is the national average which shows they are on track as far as government standards are concerned. I am sure that Year 8 they hope they will achieve Level 5 to meet national standards.

The level is the National Curriculum level. In Year 8, she would be expecting to get Level 5 or 6.

The "average expected level" at the end of Yr 9 for Maths, Eng and Sci is Level 5, so if she's already that in Yr 8 she should be well on her way to Level 6s in the Yr Nine end of key stage tests.

Is a level 5 at the end of key stage 2 the same as level 5 at secondary school?

Yes they are the same. The levels run from 1 to 8, with an Exceptional level (if still same anyway; been out of teachinf just over a year). The average pupils should reach Level 5 at the end of Y9, meaning some will be above, some at that level, and some will be below.

Level 5/6 in Year 8 is very good.

my dd is just finishing year 8 - she has a mixture of grades dependent upon the subject and hte length of time she's been studying them. Eg. she has now studied german for 2 years and Spanish for 1 year so those grades will be lower than others. We gfet the official report this week but IIRC (verbally) she has 7b or c in Science, 6a in English, 7c in MAths

sorry completely wrong. Some of those were for individual assessments or something. She actually attained 6a on all 3, 5b in German, 4a in Spanish,

dd is in year 8 and had always struggled because she suffers with mild epileptic seizures, sometimes so many times a day she is thiught to be just daydreaming !. She has attained level 5+ in English but mostly 4 in all the other subjects. .Does this mean she is way behind all her peers, or is she even verging on special needs ?

Don't worry, Mother Earth. She's doing really well on English - probably on target for Level 6 in Yr 9.

Level 4 is what they are expected to get in English, Maths and Science at the end of Year 6. However level 4 to 5 is quite a jump, so she's probably doing all the grafting now in Yr 8, in order to reach Level 5 at the end of Yr 9. Well done to her for doing so well despite the seizures.
