I can't believe that the school gates is a bloody fashion parade!

Here was I looking forward to a SAHM lifestyle which involved baggy linen pants, jam encrusted T-shirts and matted hair ... I turn up and everyone seems to have carefully planned their outfits.

PS I am sticking with the pants and jam, though

I live in Italy - all other mums in Prada. I try to make sure my combats are clean at least.

its all an illusion , i have been and dropped dd off at nursery in my pjamas , admitidly, it was just after ds had been born.

I've noticed its worse during the summer too (at DDs school) -they all compete on clothes that reveal perfect suntans, matching accessories etc

Oh yes, being an older mum too, cant go out without your wrinkles ironed. full make up and clean pressed clothes. My memory aint what it was so I have to try and remember what they have seen me in during the week

I live in Italy too and whereas before moving I wore whatever was clean. Now I think about it for about 30 seconds BEFORE leaving the house.

I don't care what I look like as long as my teeth are brushed!

Regularly go out with birds nest hair, mascara smudged under eyes etc

Thats was me before, now I spent a few minutes thinking about it. Sometimes I'm even known to put makeup on!!!!

I would love to know where half of them get the money from to keep up with the latest trends.

Although I have just started a new business so I might have to smarten up if i'm going to network effectively lol

I take the point that if all you have to do is walk to the school and back and that is your life then you might as well dress up, but Christ shoot me before that happens please !

it's not that you WANT to look a mess. it's just tedious having to think about it.

surely one of the joys of not being in a paid job, or working from home, is the casual approach to clothes and general appearance.

am naturally scruffy and really don't care what others at the school gates think

I have to dress fairly smartly for work. Can't say I ever notice what others are wearing at the school gate!

my dd's get out of bed at 6am

i have 3 hrs to brush hair and put on make up, pick nice clothes for the 3 of us, etc

tbh one of the real pleasures of being a SAHM is the freedom to wear more interesting clothes after years or dull suits and bloody tights and looking serious.
now I have a wardrobe full of bonking pink and dinky little floral skirts.
why the F not, eh?

um yes i do aim for brushed hair and clean clothes. often foiled by small sticky hands though.

am supposed by job contract to be scruffy, it's part of academic life to look other-wordly and scatty.
