Got an interview on Monday for teaching job. I was supposed to get a letter telling me details of the day including the lesson they wanted me to teach.

I have just phoned as it still has not arrived yet and apparently the current Head Of Drama still has not given his suggestions for lesson to be taught..so I am still waiting.

No ieda, what age, what subject NOTHING!

Pretty standard, IMO.

For the job I have now, I had to teach four full lessons (they paid me a day's supply for it). I found out what I was teaching the evening before, but with no resources.

The first lesson, the HOF told me just to teach from his Powerpoint slides - I tried my best but didn't know which slide was coming next. Next two lessons were OK, but the final lesson was not the one they said, and I only found out 5 minutes before when it was clear that the equipment was not what I expected. I did have a laugh (ie complained) with the HofChem, who observed the final lesson, and he said they were taking it all into account.

They did offer me the job, and I'm still not sure if they planned the day like that to test me or not. At the end of the day, I did my best, and that seemed to be enough.

I have a student who has an interview on Monday. The lesson they have asked her to teach is way out of sequence. It really doesn't make any sense, so I think that schools have a tendency to make interviewees feel very uncomfortable and put them on the spot.

Good luck Beety.

Tend to think gglimpopo has a point - and I wouldn't worry about it - your personality will come through, rather than a mission to teach all your carefuly laid out learning outcomes in your lesson plan. Probably more interested in your rapport with the kids also.

If I was you, I would turn up at the school and ask to see the Head of Drama - you would look like a self-starter and you can also have a nosey to see whether you like it or not!

How's the planning coming along then Beety?

parklife · 13/05/2006 14:36

So am I, a little cross that is with the thread title. I know we are all prone to blaspheme when speaking, but seemed unnecessary in print. I may be wrong but is Beety/Beetroot the same person who has children attending Choir School?

Good luck beety. Let us know how you get on.

tigermoth · 14/05/2006 07:08

good luck with the planning, beetroot.

I bet you won't be the only candidate having a quite blaspheme to themselves about this.

Not a very supportive comment, parklife. Feel your message looks worse in print than anything beetroot has written.

Beety- lots of things crossed for you. Hope it all goes well. Will you know the result tomorrow evening or do they take longer to mull it over?

Keep us posted and feel free to blaspheme as much as you like in the bloody thread title. Wink

exam experience can be easily acquired, real talent and the ability to inspire can't...

Blandmum · 15/05/2006 21:42

Quite. If they don't employ you, they are far too stupid and would irritate you anyway!

beety · 15/05/2006 23:01

wel thank you for that vote of confidence...

My feeling is they are too scared to employ me...but we will see
