Yes, answer please, or you'll get another personalised mug.

MungoJelly · 19/06/2012 19:03

It's naff but true...I've yet to meet a colleague who isn't moved by cards / notes with heartfelt words inside (homemade are best). Personal faves are the ones that really mean something, I've been reduced to tears over "thank you for teeching me to rid my bike" [sic!] and a thank you from a year 6 for "being ok and not too stressy"

Teacher mugs are safe - I personally don't use them at home, but put them in the staffroom. Everyone but me likes wine, but I keep it for friends to drink when they come round so it's never wasted. I love flowers but it's a bit sad if I've planned to go on holiday the next day, so give them early just in case Wink.

Only things I have been Shock at are pictures of your child in a big frame - PFB ness at its finest! Funnily enough I might prefer pictures of my family on my walls.

Watching with interest.

cybbo · 19/06/2012 19:10

Vouchers and lots of them

Don't like home made things, sorry, but messages in cards are lovely

BornToFolk · 19/06/2012 19:23

As the sister of a tee-total teacher, can I please request wine? It always ends up being passed on to me. I love end of term! Grin

My sister loves the notes and cards, especially when made by the children. Also vouchers, especially for Starbucks and Costa.

Wine, please ;)

Handwritten notes are great and I keep those. Handwritten cards x 30 at Christmas and then again in the summer x 30 years is a lot of cards which take up a lot of space-letters are thin and can be stored/kept much more easily.

No ornaments or candles from the pound shop, please!

carrotsandcelery · 19/06/2012 20:03

cybbo when you say you don't like homemade stuff can you clarify please? I am currently making my dc's teachers jewellery and am now in a panic that they will be horrified.

timetosmile · 19/06/2012 20:13

What do you do with the 'Best Teacher' teddies from the greetings card shops?

OP posts:
cybbo · 19/06/2012 21:13

no jewellery would be alright ( as long as tasteful, but I'm a fussy bugger) I'm thinking hand painted plates, mugs, decorated picture frames

I'm an old cow aren't I? Grin

What do the Male Primary teachers get?

DS has been volunteering at a Primary one afternoon a week and at the end of last term he got a card made by and signed by the whole class - and he was absolutely thrilled. He also works as a Tutor and loves the Christmas cards etc written by the children.

letseatgrandma · 19/06/2012 21:45

What do the Male Primary teachers get?

Red wine ;)

accountantsrule · 20/06/2012 14:21

I have bought wine glass charms (with Swarovski initials on) for the DS2s pre-school teachers as I know they all drink wine. I am hoping they will like them as they are a bit different (and nice and small).

DS1 has a male teacher and I have no idea whatsoever to get him!!!

devilsadvocaat · 20/06/2012 14:27

Wine!
Vouchers or nice hand cream.

Dh likes wine, socks... vouchers.

Sometimes we get 40 boxes of chocolate between us...

devilsadvocaat · 20/06/2012 14:28

(I like handmade stuff too)

devilsadvocaat · 20/06/2012 14:29

Or a nice pot plant.

Elibean · 20/06/2012 14:58

One of our male primary teachers is teetotal....tricky one....

Elibean · 20/06/2012 14:59

Actually, if anyone has good ideas for a teetotal male teacher, I could apply them to dh, db, df as well - always stuck for ideas Grin

Littlebluetoo · 23/06/2012 19:42

Nothing but a heartfelt "thank you"...

Theas18 · 23/06/2012 20:34

On behalf of DH

Wine please if you are buying ! (what ever is on offer at the supermarket- 4.99, 3 for £10 he's not fussy!)

Otherwise a little card made and written by the child is really appreciated too. Other handmade things always welcome.

Not flowers- male and female teachers often go away straight after school ends...

Please NOT things that make your (male) teacher who is middle aged and married scared of you- lynx vice sets, pound shop aftershave (worse still proper spendy aftershave- he really almost felt stalked by that).

Oh and not a stick of shaving soap and a "real badger hair " brush. We have no idea what message that was supposed to carry, it was plain weird, especially as it smelled like my late grandpa always did :(

And not the "tat shop" "worlds best teacher" stuff. It says "didn't think" especially if you are the parent he's found very challenging all year.

thornbury · 23/06/2012 20:36

I'm happy with nothing at all, but if a parent wants to get something, a card in which the parent and pupil have written a personal message is worth more than anything they could buy.

lisad123 · 23/06/2012 20:44

I remember one year dd1 teacher was going travelling so we went and brought loads of little traveling stuff and a book about the area she was traveling, put them all in a box and have them to her. She was so touched she popped a card though the door a few days later Blush
Her other teacher retired to work with plants, so brought him gardening books.

This year in really stuck! I hate nic nak stuff and like to make it as nice as possible. This year we have a quiet male teacher who has a child of 3 and wife, that's all I know!!

Cockpark · 23/06/2012 20:49

Ooh, maltesers, candles, homemade mugs or magnets etc, nice message signs about what a great teacher I am, Grin, wine - rare because I teach in year 1 on a massive council estate, I personally love the pound shop stuff, I liked a wooden love heart hangy thing last year. Chocs are iffy (except maltesers) as I then eat them all. Anything from Yellow Moon is good, you can get coasters that you can decorate, magnets, key rings, mugs etc. I always get that kind of thing for my kid's teachers plus a bunch of flowers.
My kids often get me bracelets or funky earrings from Claire's accessories or somewhere like that as I wear a lot of that.
But as I have said all along, a positive message in a card or on the report slip is worth SO much and we can then show off about it to eachother and to our DH and friends and anyone who will listen without punching us!!!!! Also it really satisfies me as I put every ounce of energy I have into my job and dearly love all the little imps in my class.

teacherwith2kids · 23/06/2012 20:53

Card, letter, hug from the child? Or just popping in to say 'thank you' would make my day :) Mentioning that your child has had a good year with Mrs TW2K to the head, now that would make my year!
