timetosmile I give those teddies to my children! (my own children) they are my least favourite but I know the child has picked them themselves so still a very sweet thing to receive.

Actually funky post it notes would be a brilliant pressy as would any kind of stationery.

hmmmmm may need to keep an eye on this thread, have been wondering what to get DD's teachers for a while now. Keep those ideas coming people ;)

TheOnlyWayIsEnfield · 23/06/2012 21:14

What teacherwith2kids said!
Everyone is different, I guess. I don't want to get 'world's best' gubbins,, although nice of them to get me anything, but I love getting plants for the classroom. Nice hand wash and cream sets come in handy for teachers in younger year groups, ime. You end up washing your hands at least 50 times a day.

Would a picture frame be ok? Not with my child in, but something he can use at home for his family photos?
There's a lovely pot painting place locally that my kids love but is that a no no? They aren't cheap horrible stuff, very useable and nice finish.

Cockpark · 23/06/2012 22:07

Lisad they both sound lovely!

I've often given one of those nice neat little umbrellas (either quite plain or with a funky pattern depending on the teacher!) on the basis that it's handy to have a couple of spares around and the little Soddy ones you can get you can slip easily in a handbag or the car and not have to worry about them. They'll last a bit longer than chocolates or wine but it's not a thing the teacher will have to have around and dust or think what on earth am I going to do with this?

So far, have had positive feedback when the recipients have said thank you, all seemed pretty genuine and I've even seen them in use a bit this year (with the wettest drought since records began has meant they have had much higher potential for use than usual)

I've also given those reusable bags that stuff up really small (some were stuffed into little apple bags as a token nod to apple for teacher tradition) hanging from a bottle of wine (or port if it's been on a good offer) which have been good.

Argh. Posted too soon

Meant to say - what do teachers think - would you like to get something like this (especially from young kids when they have to carry it in themselves and I don't trust them carrrying a bottle of wine without dropping it!)

I'm going to buy my ds1's teacher a cafetiere mug and some nice coffee. She looks like the type to enjoy a good coffee. I love mine 'cos (unlike real cafetieres which I don't like) it keeps the coffee nice and hot. If she doesn't like it, it's a good enough gift to be able to pass on. Not sure what to get TA and other teacher (who teaches 2 days a week, but isn't class teacher and I don't really rate her).

lisad123 · 23/06/2012 22:36

I have three to buy for as dd1 is moving out of school this year. I have her teacher (male) think will go for mug
Autism teacher who has made such a difference I'm thinking necklace of some sort (will keep eye on what she wears over next week)
And SENco thinking photo frame

I do really love cards with messages written by the kids and also the parents who sometimes say lovely things!

I like stationery as it's something I'd use. I've had fridge magnets which I like. Also had a big hamper once too which was lovely but I felt a little awkward to be honest.

Most teachers are genuinely grateful for any gift or card.

I did get a paperweight once that said "enjoy your retirement". I was only 27...

A parent one year got male staff a voucher for the local cinema.

The things i don't like getting are alcohol (I don't drink), plants (I kill them!) and bubble bath type stuff (I only have a shower!)

Best to send child in and ask teacher, do you prefer wine or chocolates!

NoComet · 02/07/2012 09:33

Person who suggested an umbrella you are a star, I've just found a musical one, perfect.

Marking my place, what a great thread.

ilovemydogandMrObama · 02/07/2012 09:59

we took up a collection at Christmas for DD1's teacher and got her a voucher for the shopping mall which could be used at any shop. She seemed rather pleased.

MrsTruper · 06/07/2012 13:11

Three cheers for the teachers who said all they need is NOTHING or a genuine "thank you".

That is the best example to set our children.

pudding25 · 07/07/2012 16:17

I love anything I get! I don't expect a present but I do expect a thank you for teaching me or a little note/card at the end of the year.

My friend once got a g-string from one of the children in her Yr 3 class...
