Reception class with just 8 children, all boys.
This could change through out the years, but currently just boys and only 8 in the class.

Honestly, op it sounds horrible. If they were a class of 8 that got on and were like a big family then ok, but 8 that are always falling-out will carry on being a nightmare.

What's good about the place?

My ds 1/2 went to a very small school and at age 5 had a reading age of 9. The whole infant class was 15 and 14 in the junior class.
There was no stress for sats as the results weren't published due to small numbers.
My kids thrived as did the rest of them. I disagree that the activities for planning would be reduced, on the contrary their teacher got to do so many things that would have been impossible to control or implement with a larger class.
They were all treated as individuals and the teacher also had more autonomy over what she chose to do, within the curriculum, obviously. It was a normal state school in the country.
I can't praise this scenario enough. Our problems started when moving to a large town with large schools that were all over subscribed.

morethanpotatoprints 15 would be ideal I agree. Do you feel that a small class hasn't prepared him for secondary?

On the positive side: my DS started nursery with only 7 other children. Now, a few years down the line the school is full to bursting and in his year there are 12 boys and 12 girls in two mixed classes. When the numbers were small (as they were until Yr2) the school blended different years together for drama and art and music, etc and this means that as well as having close friends in his own year DS has friends across the year above and the year below his year, so it has been all positive for us.

On the negative side: net assets of £1m are small. I looked up DC's school to compare and they have net assets of £54m. That's a bit extreme of course (it's a v well established school) but I think £1m is not a great cushion for a school.
