Went to NUT meeting at school yesterday re pension reform. Cannot see myself teaching until 68 and who wants their kids taught by oldies not wanting to be there.

Your contributions are increasing from 6.4% to 9.5% or 9.8%

mrz · 01/06/2011 13:16

In the private sector perhaps... my pension forecast from working in industry is considerably more than I expect from teaching Smile

MmeBlueberry · 01/06/2011 13:27

Interesting article. What do you think?

Independent schools and the TPS

mrz · 01/06/2011 13:37

the link doesn't work Hmm

Sorry, ipad truncation

mrz · 01/06/2011 14:08

So does that mean that the pension sort fall is in the private sector MmeB?

MmeBlueberry · 01/06/2011 14:11

Most schemes are experiencing a short fall, which is why employers have switched to career average and/or closed their schemes to new employees.

Other than that, not sure what you mean.

mrz · 01/06/2011 14:16

Millions of pounds of public money is being spent subsidising the pensions of teachers at England's most expensive public schools, including Eton and Harrow, the Guardian reveals today. More than 62,000 teachers at independent schools, including more than 1,600 at the country's top public schools, are enjoying the same pensions, underwritten by the government, as teachers working in state schools, data disclosed under the Freedom of Information Act shows.

MmeBlueberry · 01/06/2011 14:20

How do you feel about that?

mrz · 01/06/2011 14:32

I assume like state employed teachers you have agreed to increase your contributions and work longer to meet the short fall ...

MmeBlueberry · 01/06/2011 14:40

I don't think my contributions are going to make much of a difference.

What do you think of the notion of taxpayers subsidising the pensions of independent school teachers?

mrz · 01/06/2011 14:42

I'm assuming the other 61999 independent teachers are going to chip in too

MmeBlueberry · 01/06/2011 14:43

Keep dodging. It's funny to watch you squirm.

adamschic · 01/06/2011 14:46

Oh great, a strike when our children are stuggling to get taught properly.

As a working women we were meant to retire at 60 and that was extended without any consultation.

Damn sure I won't want to be working when I'm doddering and would rather hand my job over to a younger person, however I am keen on eating.

mrz · 01/06/2011 14:49

You are mistaken I'm not squirming MmeB ... what do you want me to do rant about independent school staff ?

I stick by what I have said if everyone makes concessions as teachers have agreed to do then the fund can be self-sustaining.

MmeBlueberry · 01/06/2011 14:53

I wondered what yournpoint of view was on the notion that taxpayers are subsidising private school teachers. The big sacred cow, lolol.

mrz · 01/06/2011 15:00

Don't you pay tax MmeB?

MmeBlueberry · 01/06/2011 15:02

Oodles and not a rebate in sight.

mrz · 01/06/2011 15:04

Then perhaps you are subsidising yourself

MmeBlueberry · 01/06/2011 15:09

I think subsiding oneself would be rather silly.

I take by your silence on the real issue here is that you admit that the TPS has been unreasonably supported by honest, hardworking taxpayers, and that this has to end.

mrz · 01/06/2011 15:14

No I think we are honest, hard working taxpayers who also make large additional contributions to the pension fund.
Do you not view the tax you pay as contributing to the state?

mrz · 01/06/2011 15:16

My silence was due to the fact I was ordering resources from Amazon

MmeBlueberry · 01/06/2011 15:16

Absolutely. And I don't whinge when the government stops the gravy train. Nice while it lasted and all that.

mrz · 01/06/2011 15:17

You seem to be whinging a lot

MmeBlueberry · 01/06/2011 15:18

Pas moi. I am ever the optimist.
