When do you think is a good age to tell kids the facts? My Ds1 (nrly 10) has started hinting and asked me when they will be doing lessons at schl. Said that a girl in his class said "my mum is telling me everything" and she will tell everyone! shudder to think!!!!!!!!! I think its too young to tell them everything, but maybe not?

my dd1 and dd2 age 5 and 4 have been asking about this so I told them. fairly graphically (we have some quite good books which people gave us which they like to study as well).

i don't see why they are ever too young to know, if they're old enough to ask the questions.

haven't yet managed to explain why lesbian friends have children though. am leaving that one for a bit.

We've done the same for my dd, who started asking questions when she was 3. She's now 4 and the questions keep coming - I always answer factually, in a way that she can understand and not be freaked out by, because children deserve to have their questions answered truthfully. It never ceases to amaze me how people get away with not telling their children this stuff until they're 9 or 10 - do the children never ask the questions, or do you just not answer them?

Apparently I was about 4 when I asked how babies are made, and when my dad told me I rolled around the floor in hysterics, and said "That's really funny - now tell me where babies really come from", so he told me they found me under a gooseberry bush, and I went away quite happy. It's a shame that they then didn't raise the subject with me ever again, though!
