Parents "sneaking" pop into water bottles - opinions please?

DS has just started reception and they have a policy that all the children are allowed to take in a bottle of water which are kept on a tray and they are allowed to help themselves as and when. Think this sort of idea is becoming pretty common. So I went out and bought DS a nice new Star Wars bottle to take it in and he was quite happy.

However loads of the parents are complaining and saying their kids won't drink water. Some of them have started sending in flavoured water and ribena. One even sent diet coke. I'm a bit peeved about this because DS knows they are only allowed water but that some of the others are taking these things. I know its only a small thing but I do think it is giving the kids the message that its OK to undermine the teacher and I think that its the start of the discipline problems that afflict lots of schools - the sort of thing that HMB describes very eloquently. What do you think?

Yes - we moved into new house in January though so you can imagine...

Eek!

Gobbledigook · 19/09/2005 20:26

oh well, you made me laugh!!

I should put it in perspective really - there'd be worse things to be stressed about.

Is your ds1 settling well at school? How are the school runs going with two littlies in tow? Are you starting to enjoy the school gate experience yet?!

Gobbledigook · 19/09/2005 20:32

Actually, school gate is getting better I must admit!

School run is Ok but a bit of a faff - too far to walk so have to park up, get double buggy out, get kids in it, paraphenalia deposited underneath and then obviously all back in the car after! On days that ds2 is in nursery I've got to then rush to his nursery about 5 miles away. I do about 1.5 hrs out in the morning just doing drop off!!! Not bad at the mo but it's going to be horrendous in the rain!

When they are all at school and I don't have to go in the opposite direction to nursery I'll maybe walk.

Ds1 is not bad - not ecstatic yet - but then he's not got a little group of friends yet. He didn't cry today when he came out tonight though and he was in a good mood so that was a 1st!! When I ask him if he likes it he says 'yes' so I'm not worried. I was talking to his old nursery 'teacher' today when picking up ds2 and she said I shouldn't worry about his work - she thinks he'll find it a breeze based on the work she did with him last year - lets hope she's right!

How are your boys?

Gobbledigook · 19/09/2005 20:35

What are you doing for the meet up about staying over?

Back later - got to work for a bit!

hunkermunker · 19/09/2005 20:40

GDG - glad he's proved you wrong

dropinthe · 19/09/2005 20:52

Thanks,Hunker-think that was a detailed enough email!
Am going to bump Stephones thread for you and would like you take heed of my post of around 4.36-I'm not barking,am just observing a piss take!

At Christmas I'm staying over at the place nextdoor - sharing with Lilibet.

Your school run sounds a complete nightmare actually. Do you know anyone going in the same direction who you could share days with you once ds1 is well settled into the school?

My boys are fine: happy to be back at school. Ds1 keeps saying he hasn't learned anything new at school this year, but he has really! He's writing a story for the Blue Peter competition at the moment, which is keeping him quiet. And we've just bought him a Gameboy (shock, horror), which also keeps him entertained!
