School sends kids in jeggings home

Lilaclion · 10/09/2010 09:45

I've just read in my local paper that a secondary school has had to send home 60 pupils for turning up to class in jeggings instead of school uniform trousers.

Am I being a bit Amish by wondering what parent in their right mind would think that jeggings are a suitable alternative to school trousers?

the proper link

katkouta · 10/09/2010 14:17

maybe they were more like 'treggings' Grin

TrillianAstra · 10/09/2010 14:19

The link doesn't say if the school had a real uniform or simply a dress code. Would jeans have been ok? If so it's a bit wonky to say jeans are ok, jeggings aren't. If they are supposed to be wearing proper trousers than I will join you all in asking WTF?

FranSanDisco · 10/09/2010 14:26

In the Daily Express today they quote the HT as saying a letter had been sent home before the end of term (July) advisng parents of the approved uniform code and stating leggings were not part of this. She confirms that the girls can wear trousers but not leggings or jeans.

Jeggings.

(Shudders)

Awful, awful things on any age. Amish and proud here too.

Bonsoir · 10/09/2010 17:20

Jeggings are really sweet on slim children and teenagers - and comfortable - and practical. A million times more attractive than school uniform trousers.

seeker · 10/09/2010 17:22

I am pretty sure that teenagers don't wear jeggings because they think they look "sweet"!

loopyloops · 10/09/2010 17:23

But not school uniform.

PJs are really comfy, and sweet too. Would you let your kids go to school in them?

TheCrackFox · 10/09/2010 17:24

What a waste of time and resources sending them home. Petty.

bamboostalks · 10/09/2010 17:26

They should have a special uniform for fat and slim pupils shouldn't they Bonsoir?

seeker · 10/09/2010 17:28

Frankly, I'm in favour of the anything which curbs the natural inclination of young teenage girls to dress like Trailer Trash Barbie until common sense and some idea of good taste kick in!

durga · 10/09/2010 17:30

Good, there is no issue buying appropriate school trousers and they had plenty of notice. It is willfull disobedience.

Bonsoir · 10/09/2010 17:31

British teenage girls dress like trailer-trash Barbie because all their parents' clothing budget has gone on hideous school uniform and teenagers have never been exposed to any decent clothing which might inform their taste.

durga · 10/09/2010 17:35

That is correct Bonsoir all British teenage girls dress like trailer trash especially those horrid fats ones. Lets face it education is wasted on the fat they are best off left alone with packet of lard.

Francagoestohollywood · 10/09/2010 17:37

Surely even jeggings are better than teflon coated uniform trousers?

ShowOfHands · 10/09/2010 17:37

Jeggings. I've said it before and I'll say it again. It's a sad reflection of greed. No longer can an item of clothing be one thing. Oh no, the advent of treggings and jeggings and jumper dresses (surely drumpers?) is just a sartorial nod to the failure of society today.

I await jumpers with built in hats and trousers with built in boots.

I can hear the fashion students now shrieking 'but what else is it, what else does it do?'

ShowOfHands · 10/09/2010 17:38

Trailer Trash Barbie = Sindy
