What does she mean by this?

I am selling a bit scalextric set on ebay. Its up for £50 starting price and has 5 watchers.

A woman has asked me if I will put a buy it now price on so I said £65.

So she replied and asked if I would take £65 with the p+p included....

does this mean she wants to pay £65 altogether for the set and the p+p or does she mean £65 + P&P?

She wants to be £65 for everything

frogs · 08/10/2008 13:46

She's trying it on. She wants it for £65 including the P+P.

How long has the item been on for? People ask this a lot, and it almost always means you'd be better waiting for the auction to run.

£65 seems like a low BIN price for an item starting at £50tbh. What do similar items go for?

Columbo · 08/10/2008 13:46

Yes, she wants you to take £65 full stop and for her not to pay anything extra for postage.

MatNanPlus · 08/10/2008 13:48

What is is the completed price for this type of item?

What are the actual P&P Costs?

WHat were you hoping to get?

missjennipenni · 08/10/2008 14:39

She wouldnt be asking you for a BIN if she didnt think it would probably go for more if you left it to auction. Id just sit out the auction & see what happens!

Flibbertyjibbet · 08/10/2008 14:54

Not necessarily. I have just emailed someone to ask if they will do a bin on a childs scooter. I have offered her a bit more than they usually go for.
I've done that cos I don't mind paying a bit over the odds to get the item I want, when I would like it (and when I've got half a day tomorrow to do the 30 mile round trip to pick it up).

If you've done some research and know what they go for, and that bin offer is low, then say thanks for your interest but I'll see how the auction goes.

Did you watch other similar items first to see how they do, or are you just basing it on the new price and what you would like for it?

Can we have a link please!

Geepers · 08/10/2008 14:58

I offered a man £15 for a child's bike last week. I wanted to BIN so I could collect immediately so my son could make the most of the few days of sun we had.

He refused and let the auction won and I won the auction for £6.00. He had a tricycle and a go-kart on auction at the same time and I won them all for the price I'd have paid for just the bike.

So sometimes, you don't get more by waiting.

That's the link (if it works!). Someone else is selling one for a BIN of £129!

Not sure whether to add a bIN to mine...it's not in perfect condition though.

i would take it. your being greedy especially if there's no bids yet. just coz there's watchers doesn't mean anyone is actually going to bid.

TinkerBellesMum · 08/10/2008 21:12

this one?

MrsSnape · 08/10/2008 21:31

yes that's the one!

"i would take it. your being greedy especially if there's no bids yet. just coz there's watchers doesn't mean anyone is actually going to bid. "

err yeah, thanks for that

OP posts:
elmoandella · 08/10/2008 21:42

ok then . . everyone lets be blind and pretend that you get a sudden influx of bidders and you get way over £65.

or you could just take the cash and be grateful it's sold. just coz someone else has BIN of £129 doesn't mean they'll get it.

and if it's the one i've just looked at. the other one is in mint condition. yours has parts missing. and the box is trashed you say. then whoever buys this cant give it as a present. they're only going to be keeping for their own dc.

this is a terrible time of year. everyone is saving up for xmas. and skint from hols. and credit crunch isn't helping.

MrsSnape · 08/10/2008 21:50

I do see what you're saying and I agree to a point... but the point is she wanted a BIN price so I gave her £65, she then wanted the p+p included in that which would take almost £20 off the price as it is, which would make it lower than the starting auction price!

And the current finantial situation is part of the reason I'm selling it.

OP posts:
elmoandella · 08/10/2008 21:53

yeah, but if she bid at £50 she'd pay £68 . so only £3 difference. why not offer her it for £68. she think she got a bargain as it's cheaper than BIN still. and you get your £50 that your willing to accept. (i assume your happy with that as thats your starting price.)

madamy · 08/10/2008 21:56

Your postage seems very high though when you can get a courier for £8! I would definately be put off bidding and can prehaps see why she doesn't want that added on.
Only my opinion though!

Flossish · 08/10/2008 21:56

just go with the auction. that way you'll get a fair price for it set by the bidders. I'm not happy to accept 'offers' outside of the auction once I put my items on. It seems unfair somehow.

elmoandella · 08/10/2008 21:59

i also dont see how you can charge £18 postage. average rate for parcel under 4 cubic metres and less than 25kgs is under £8 as madamy says.

MrsSnape · 08/10/2008 22:01

I agree the postage is high, It was a quote I got from parcel force

The box is huge and it weights a ton (well, 7.5 kg to be exact). If I can find a courier cheaper I'll reduce the postage.

OP posts:
MrsSnape · 08/10/2008 22:02

Who is that with? (£8)

OP posts:
elmoandella · 08/10/2008 22:04

use parce2go.com. they are pretty reliable and you dont need to fill in dimensions on website. just as long as under the 1m max length.

offer the lady £10 off the postage if she pays your BIN.
she thinks she's getting a bargain. you still get your BIN price?

elmoandella · 08/10/2008 22:04

oh and parcel2go use dhl. and it's their 48-72 hour service. £6.?? plus a sucharge brings it to just under £8

madamy · 08/10/2008 22:07

I use parcel2go also. The only 'problem' is that someone needs to stay in all day until it's collected - it's not like you can drop it off somewhere. However, if that's not a problem for you, I'd definately go with them.

Good idea about the postage discount elmoandemma
