I brought a a box of brand new with tags clothes from ebay. The seller advertised them as a massive lot of clothes retailing at over 1200 pounds. Well the clothes have come today, they are brand new but no where near 1200 pounds worth not even a quarter of thats worth. The clothes are all from additions and the box include 3 scarfs and by dividing how many clothes there are by the 1200 it works out that they would retail at 38.20 each!! As they are mainly t-shirts and 3 scarfs all kit brand there is no way at all. If the box was full of next clothes it still wouldnt come close to 1200 pounds worth. I have emailed the seller to ask if perhaps she sent the wrong box. But failing that i think a refund should be given. Any advice?

You didn't honestly think you were going to get anywhere near £1200 worth of clothes for a song, did you?

spendaonwhat · 06/06/2008 21:13

No i thought there might have been a slight exageration but not a great big whopping lie!

Could have been a typo and she meant £120.

I guess it depends on what you paid for them tbh

expatinscotland · 06/06/2008 21:15

They're brand new. There's nothing wrong with them. I'm afraid I don't see the big deal.

I think people who buy clothes on Ebay are suckers, though.

Saturn74 · 06/06/2008 21:17

Didn't the auction itemise the contents of the box?
Were there photos?
Retail prices are not always accurate - look at how many shops have regular sales with huge discounts from the RRP.

Saturn74 · 06/06/2008 21:18

Link to the auction so we can see what you were bidding on.

Saturn74 · 06/06/2008 21:18

You didn't bid £1199 did you?

spendaonwhat · 06/06/2008 21:19

CT dont thinks its a typo as she is advertising more.

ES i brought them to re sell, single mum trying to make some extra cash! Thats the big deal.

This the one?

I don't think i would ever bid without pics

spendaonwhat · 06/06/2008 21:28

Yes and it never came itemised. Maybe i was foolish but she lied on her auction. Totally misrepresented what she actually sold me.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 06/06/2008 21:29

Not really.

She sold you a box of clothes that didn't come with photos.

And you bought them.

ConnorTraceptive · 06/06/2008 21:30

If something sounds to good to be true it usually is.

Sorry you've been duped

I really wouldn't bid on something with no pictures or accurate description though.

Do a paypal claim if she won't refund as she has lied about their value.

geordieminx · 06/06/2008 21:34

Agree that if something is too good to be true then it usually is - especially where ebay is concerned these days. Why would someone sell £1200 of clothes for £90

You could email her, failing that raise a dispute, you have nothing to loose really?

tortoise · 06/06/2008 21:35

If you look at feedback she had only sold one other job lot. That would make me weary too.
I doubt you can get any refund.

Saturn74 · 06/06/2008 21:38

The listing says £1200 approx.
There is a photo of a box.
She sent you a box.
There is no list of the items.
She uses terminology such as 'vast majority'.
She has covered her arse.
I'm not sure what you can do, as the listing is so vague.

Saturn74 · 06/06/2008 21:40

She looks like a genuine seller though, with 100% feedback.
See how she responds to your email; maybe you can come to some agreement.
How many items did you get for your £90?

wheresthehamster · 06/06/2008 21:41

Not sure I'd trust anyone who said 'deffo' anyway

CarGirl · 06/06/2008 21:42

She says worth £1,200 when new and it was never worth £1,200 hence the description is wrong/misleading.

wannaBe · 06/06/2008 21:45

was the contents of the box worth more than £90? if so you haven't actually been ripped off have you - you've paid £90 for clothes that are probably worth more than that.

And the lesson learned is: if it sounds too good to be true, it is.

annh · 06/06/2008 21:46

She also says the box will come with an itemised list and rrp for each item. Did it? And if so, how do the prices compare to what you believe an Additions item should sell for?

spendaonwhat · 06/06/2008 22:09

No the box didnt come with an itemised list. The clothes new probably costs 90 but resale value no i would lose out. I paid by paypal so i assume im covered by that for a refund. Have not heard from her as yet. Have emailed the other person to buy a box off her to see if the seller genuinely made a mistake on what she sent me. Also if i get a refund do i have to pay for sending the box back or does she?
