pleas bear with me I AM FED UP !

cos increasingly people pull the item not received rubbish I am finding (as are others I talk to) and then you have to refund in order to hopefully retain good feedback......and chase up royal mail yourself in the hope that the person signs the form they send them (if they can be bothered).

The worst bit is often its only a few days since the item has been sent so its prob not even lost in the blardy post and the buyer is getting all snippy [grr]

what a farce! I think some people are just at it and want the item AND A REFUND TOO!!! grrrr

I notice increasingly to myself and others that I talk to that people are doing this and when the feedback system changes it will be EVEN WORSE. Buyers will do what they want with no worry of neg feedback .

I always get proof of postage , would buying recorded make any diff atall???? As i have heard often that the parcels arent even necessarily signed for.

grrrr.......

makes me want to take all my stuff straight to the charity shop without even trying to ebay the odd item....

I try to sell on our better sec hand items to buy new shoes for the kids, clothes etc for them, makes me want to scream!!!!

You cant report an item 'not recieved' until 10 days after the auction ends so realy the item should have arrived by then?

I always post within 2 days of the auction ending, if the item has'nt arrived by the 10th day then i refund and claim money back through royal mail (if its worth it)

I have had 3 things go missing and it is anoying but thats royal mail for you

I think if you are selling anything over £5 you should use recorded delivery or give the option of recorded delivery.

Marne · 19/04/2008 12:01

E-bay can be a pain and people can be nasty. I had to refund 2 people a few weeks ago with money i was saving for a pair of shoe's for dd1

mumofdjandbabies · 19/04/2008 12:03

yeah a buyer there that I sent an item to (that I actually had to add some postage too my mistake) gave me 4 days then was pestering me and I post things immed as post office across the road.

My feedback is 100% 4.9/5.0 on all the points.

I just think increasingly people are going ot be at it do you?

Or am I still cross and being cynical

OP posts:
mumofdjandbabies · 19/04/2008 12:04

I just really think people know how to pull fast ones these days,,,,,,,, just a feeling......

OP posts:
mumofdjandbabies · 19/04/2008 12:04

thats rubbish marne why did you have to refund?

OP posts:
ImflightbutIcantlogintoday · 19/04/2008 12:08

Oh Krissy {{{hugs}}}

You poor thing.

I think Marne is right - nobody is allowed to raise a dispute about items not being received until a fair while after the transaction, so make them wait for the parcel to arrie - be very cautious about giving refunds, yes from May it will be impossible to retain a fair feedback rating as a seller, but that's when I'm stopping selling for good. (apart from occasionally I expect)

First of all try to develop a bit more cynicism. I hate this but I've learned the hard way since I started. You have to assume nothing and be quite cold and businesslike. Don't be afraid to say no.

I always send recorded if it is a valuable thing, or more than £20 odd - depending on if I trust the buyer.
Yes it is worth doing, as paypal will ask you for tracking and to prove it was sent and signed for, if a dispute is raised. So vital really.
It will stop some buyers pulling a fast one also.

The motto is take care of your own interestes, really. There are ways t be a nice and friendly ebayer without letting your guard down.

HTH, here, have a bit of carrot cake xx

mumofdjandbabies · 19/04/2008 12:12

aw thanks youre a honey! (cake received with thanks)

Really faffed off though cos I want to sell off our bits and bats it really helps!

You can just tell some people are trouble cant you when they hassle you straight from the word go.....I am learning so much!!

not quick enough though obviously (sigh)

Sorry about the typos there

Also, if you cover yourself by using recorded and insured post, nobody can get you too badly.
If something is damaged just claim from parcelforce etc and then refund them.
Maintain an air of confidence and the nasty ones might back off.

I always say 'Please send me photos of the damage, and I will submit a claim on your behalf'. This puts some off - one woman said she would leave it as she thought eh inspector from parcelforce wouldn't be able to see the damage

You don't usually need to lose out.

Also don't be scared of feedback. It's a dubious system to say the least but I have a retaliatory neg and I wear it with pride.
Not one neg as a seller though.

Keep on top of communication as I am sure you do, and reduce your risks - don't let impatient and unreasonable people give you the run around.

mumofdjandbabies · 19/04/2008 12:13

i never noticed a single typo ha ha !

OP posts:
mumofdjandbabies · 19/04/2008 12:14

hmm you have a wise head on your shoulders and are right its just so annoying when you KNOW people are at it eh!!!

I actually struggle to believe it !!!!

ImflightbutIcantlogintoday · 19/04/2008 12:15

Cross posted! Have you tried NCT sales, maybe? Or boot fairs?
I think I might be resorting to these after May. Ebay always was a buyers market in so many ways. This is just the nail in the coffin though I think it will soon become rare for a seller to have a clear record in the face of a system like this, so nobody will bat an eye at a few negs. It's daft!

ImflightbutIcantlogintoday · 19/04/2008 12:16

No I'm not wise Krissy, any conflict throws me into a panic, but I think it's possible to be too nice

Time to start sounding 'well 'ard' my dear!

Youcannotbeserious · 19/04/2008 12:17

Hi MODJAB!!!

SixLostMOnkeys will be able to answer this better, but I think one problem is that Paypal basically requires the seller to insure the item (if the item is 'lost in the post' then it's the sellers fault) so the buyer can demand (and will get through Paypal) a refund unless the seller can prove the item has been delivered.

So, in one way, yes it would be better to pay for insurance BUT... that will mean you listing a higher P&P cost and buyers get antsy about that too.

SOme ebayers do now add to their listings what day they will post etc., but not sure if that makes any difference.

I must admit, I've lost patience with Ebayer (though I do still buy - just can't be bothered to sell stuff!) I've done a few car boots and given the rest to charity.

Sorry, that's not too positive ( I hope you enjoyed your cake!!)

mumofdjandbabies · 19/04/2008 12:23

aw hi

You have made me feel womewhat better guys

I just like the ease of sitting on my butt rather than the cold of a car boot or faff of NCT really

Do you think ebay will take a dip due to the change in feedback as good sellers will be put off or do you not think so.

Think Ill send everything recorded from now on.............

Marne · 19/04/2008 12:25

I had to refund for a CD as the buyer said it was a coppy (i bought it from HMV so it was'nt a coppy), the buyer was from spain so i refunded and told him not to send it back as i did'nt want to pay for the return postage from spain.

I've also had to refund for an item which went missing in the post, i could'nt find the proof of postage as i posted alot that week so had to refund out of my own pocket.

I have feedback of 1300 99.8%, i had one bit of bad feedback saying an item smelt of smoke (we don't smoke )

Some people are just out to moan.

I also have trouble with people with no feedack (new members), i don't like not selling to them as we all have to start somewhere but so many of them never pay or wait weeks before paying. I always ask for the winner to pay within 5 days so i do tend to get anoyed when people dont pay.

mumofdjandbabies · 19/04/2008 12:28

oh marne thats pants

I currently have a buyer who has opened a dispute on ebay, which he escalted to a cliam. This is despite me having a recorded delivery slip, have seen the electronic proof of delivery, etc but he is not responding to my emails, and neither are paypal!

I have now put up my P&P charges as I now send everything recorded. I got a seller who claimed he hadn't received something. i emailed him and said "oh well i can't understand why, I have the recorded delivery slip". I didn't, but I was trying to catch him out, he replied with "the parcel didn't have a recorded delivery slip on it"
so he ahd hte parcel, plus a refund from paypal!

Marne · 19/04/2008 12:33

Dh sell's china ~(cups, teapots etc..) on ebay and once he sent atea service to a lady, she e-maile to say a handle had fallen of a mug , Dh offered a refund and the Lady said 'don't worry, the mug is now being used to keep my pens in' . Not all buyers are evil.

I will carry on selling on e-bay as i enjoy recycling the kids clothes.

mumofdjandbabies · 19/04/2008 12:38

saltire thats awful

thats what I mean!!! people who are at it eh!! Dif you get to leave him a neg or did he leave you one. Could you or did you report him to ebay itself?

so bear with me, in that case when he got his refund could you have emailed paypal afterwards and send a copy of his emai with what he said about the parcel not having the slip on to prove he had got it and had lied......I am presuming not

and marne thats a great story bless!!!! more of that type of buyer please eh

After May I reckon sellers will be subjected to more and more bad buyers such as these. All sellers can do is prepare for it.
First, don't worry about the negs you will receive (no point in worrying about what you can't change) as all sellers will be getting loads. I've been ebaying for over 4 years without a neg, but I reckon I will get one before May is out.

I recommend making your own list of procedure (so to speak) Brush up on the ebay rules and jot down the time frames and 'how to' bits. eg. post within 48 hrs, keep a record in a book of dates sent (for easy ref) obtain COPs and/or rec del slips, send a reminder on day 3 and 5 and file a non payment dispute on day 8, keep communications professional, to the point, friendly but not too friendly ie, don't justify anything. Respond to paypal disputes with a tracking number and any further problems - phone paypal.

Don't offer rec del as an option, just use it. I often state and charge for standard del but send rec del out of my own pocket. It's well worth the 70p to imagine the look on their face when they realise they can't claim their money back.

mumofdjandbabies · 19/04/2008 19:50

very wise advise thank you!!!!

Why are ebay changing the feedback set up do you think?

OP posts:
DarthVader · 19/04/2008 19:57

I don't know, but it weighs the scales even further in favour of buyers and it is already an uneven playing field.

It is sellers who pay the fees so why make life so hard for them?

I like to sell on kids clothes but with the high costs of postage now and ebay and paypal fees it is hardly worth the effort. I might do car boots instead! I guess this is better for the environment than posting stuff?

mumofdjandbabies · 19/04/2008 20:05

again very true but if there are less sellers then ebay lose out eh or maybe they know some of us cant be bothered car booting therefore have us at their mercy etc

OP posts:
Piffle · 19/04/2008 20:10
