Why oh why do some people get so offended when you make offers? Do they not get that it's the whole point? 🤣🙈

Well, if you're offering £5 when the seller has listed for £15, then yes, I can see why they get annoyed. Cheapskates tend to be time wasters too.

Sellers can of course just decline, counter offer or ignore and block. I tend to decline and that's it. If they want it that much, then they'll pay the asking price.

I had something listed for £5, which was already vastly reduced from RRP and cheapest online as it was no longer in stock, but buyer offered me £3, so I declined as I'd only just listed it the day before. Anyway, they kept increasing by 50p, and I kept declining until they bought it at full asking price 5 days later.

Tabitha005 · 17/08/2023 13:21

I buy and sell on Vinted and don't bother listing anything I sell for less than £5 and always ignore any offer for less than £5. Any less than a fiver and I feel it's a waste of my time wrapping it up and going to the drop-off point. If I get to the point where I've got loads of clothes listed on Vinted that I'll never wear again taking up space in my closet, I de-list them and take them to the charity shop or put them in the textile recycling container at the local tip.

When buying, I do sometimes make offers, but generally only a couple of quid - and I always feel like I've got a great bargain if I manage to negotiate the saving of the postage cost!

I'd never offer less than 75% of a listing's offer price, though. I feel that's generally a piss-take. I love Vinted and have got loads of excellent clothes from it. I reckon my current wardrobe hasn't cost me anything thanks to all the pieces I've managed to sell of my own.

HoliHormonalTigerLillyTheSecond · 29/08/2023 20:57

You can only offer 40% and up. So people are perfectly within their right to make offers. I just don't get why people aren't so snippy about it?!

OP posts:
foolishone · 29/08/2023 21:05

I don't even reply to cheeky offers. I can't be arsed with it and my stuff sells eventually anyway.

What do you mean? What are they saying?

LadyBird1973 · 29/08/2023 21:32

I make offers if something has been listed for a while. Sometimes it's better to get a bit less than you want, rather than nothing at all! Although if I feel an item is genuinely worth what's being asked, I just pay it.

Precipice · 29/08/2023 21:36

Because they don't see that as the "whole point"? They see Vinted as a place where they can put out listings for things they want to sell on, and have other people buy them.

At least on ebay you can enable or disable offers. You can't disable them on Vinted, only state that the prices are fixed.

Exactly! Just ignore it if you don't think it's enough.
It's not a personal attack on you as a person.
I just don't get the aggy types 🤷🏻‍♀️

But it's a market place. People haggle. Just tell them your best price. No need to get antsy.

@TheBeesKnee just long winded and snippy explaining as to why they think it's worth whatever price they're offering. It's only worth what someone will pay for it. If you don't want to accept a price then just decline the offer or make one somewhere in the middle 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’ve never had anyone getting agro with me about making an offer, how much less are you offering? What are they actually saying?

foolishone · 29/08/2023 21:49

@HoliHormonalTigerLillyTheSecond some offers really take the piss though.

newbeggins · 29/08/2023 21:53

It's wasting my time with messages of cheeky offers that I'm inevitably going to decline. I list very reasonably- for instance £2 for £50 dress worn twice and I get offers for £1. (Made up scenario but 50% reductions pretty normal for offers) Prefer eBay where it auto declines silly offers.

EstellaHanclay · 29/08/2023 21:59

I’m with you OP! I once bought 5 items so I could get the 50% discount the selller had enabled. Only for the seller to message me stating “they’re worth much more than that, I won’t accept that. You need to make a decent offer” 🤔🫤

Some starting prices also take the piss. So you make an offer. Again, kinda the whole point of Vinted.

Right?! Just decline. We don't need war & peace! 😆

How on earth is it wasting any of your time though? You don't even need to decline it 🤷🏻‍♀️

One thing I'm finding with Vinted is that it's often cheaper to just buy new from the shop by the time you add postage on etc. Unless of course you're buying something higher end/designer but then I don't like to as they're still quite expensive and there's the risk it may be fake

Omgwhatthehell · 29/08/2023 22:26

I was once sent a message on Vinted accusing me of “ripping other mums off” by offering a BNWT kids item for around the price I’d bought it at.
It had since become really sought after and was sold out, so I figured I could get most of my money back.
The person messaging me didn’t appreciate my reply, which essentially said “I’m not forcing anyone to buy it at gunpoint” 😂
So weird.

AreYouShittingMe · 30/08/2023 07:34

Vinted is just a reflection of life. People getting annoyed after dealing with CF who think you should sell your stuff dirt cheap so they can benefit from a bargain without considering the effort you need to go to to sell it (and the fact you are selling to make money) and are rude into the bargain. Then sellers get snippy when 'cheeky' offers come in, and rather than just decline feel the need to explain why.
But on the whole it's made up of reasonable people, who are respectful to each other. We just notice and remember those that irritate us.
I've updated my wardrobe after putting in weight via Vinted by selling my small clothes and using the money to buy larger, so I love it. It wasn't without the odd 'interesting' encounter though!

buzzlightyearsgloves · 30/08/2023 07:51

I like vinted and use it a lot but you do have to be careful, by the time you've paid postage and the buyer protection fee sometimes things are near to full price.

Offering less than 80%?

Then use eBay! You can’t list on a platform that allows buyers to make offers of up to 40% off and then complain if they do! Use a platform with a fixed price option!

NigelHarmansNewWife · 26/11/2023 11:03

I don't think making offers is the whole point tbh. I was offered 25% less than asking price for a high quality item and countered in the middle for the supposedly interested party to fail to respond. Just shows they're a cheapskate and it's no skin off my nose to leave the listing up. I would advise listing at a higher price than you're prepared to take because so many people seem to need to feel they've got a bargain by paying less than the asking price.

ChocolateCakeOverspill · 26/11/2023 11:07

Another who doesn’t think that’s the point of Vinted. If you want to be flexible over price and haggle, use eBay. If not just pay what they’re asking or scroll past.
