Ebay has changed.

Anyone tried these other options?
Are they better / easy to use?
Which do you prefer & why?

Interested too following my unhappiness at recent ebay selling!

SuperSange · 03/06/2021 07:37

I've used Vinted quite a bit and it's really simple. For buying and selling.

Tiktokersmiracle · 03/06/2021 07:39

Not used depop but love Vinted. Very easy to buy and sell through

RulesRulesRulesRulesRules · 03/06/2021 07:41

Does vinted let you use paypal?

I’ve bought lots from DPop and have some stuff for sale on there too but nothing sold yet, none of it is particularly desirable or seasonal so not surprised tbh.
It’s been really good, I read bad reviews of Vinted which is why I used DPop but not based on personal experience.

RulesRulesRulesRulesRules · 03/06/2021 07:42

Dpop has a 10% commission fee - is Vinted the same?

OP posts:
KaptainKaveman · 03/06/2021 07:43

My 16 year old does a bit of selling on Depop and they seem to take quite a chunk of £££ for their commission. I think she's considering a switch to Vinted.

ButchersPleasure · 03/06/2021 07:44

Vinted charge the buyer not the seller.

GoofyIsACow · 03/06/2021 07:48

Oh that’s good to know about Vinted! Maybe i’ll try that too!

Melassa · 03/06/2021 07:49

I’ve used Vinted, found it all really easy, plus deliveries are managed by UPS and you need to go and pick up from a pick up point (usually a local shop), so none of this denying having received the item. No commission for the seller. I don’t know if they use PayPal, I just pay with my credit card and Vinted release the funds to the seller.

I’ve not sold with Vinted but my friend has and says it’s an improvement on EBay.

Just posted something on Vinted & 2 people have added it to their favourites. What am I supposed to reply?

OP posts:
RulesRulesRulesRulesRules · 03/06/2021 10:16

So have set a price, do people make offers?

OP posts:
Melassa · 03/06/2021 11:43

They can contact you to ask if they want

RulesRulesRulesRulesRules · 03/06/2021 12:13

Should I ask them or just leave it?

OP posts:
Melassa · 03/06/2021 14:44

I would just leave it, give them time to decide

Gingefringe · 03/06/2021 18:21

My DD sells loads on vinted and pays no commission. On the other hand, my ebay sales have slowed right down recently - less buyers using ebay maybe? I'm going to try Vinted soon.

AgnesNaismith · 03/06/2021 18:23

I used to use eBay and now an avid Vinted-er I haven’t had a problem buyer yet and no fees is excellent. It is a much easier app to use too, a couple of clicks and items are on sale.

lemorella · 03/06/2021 18:34

Hate the new eBay charges and won't be using as a seller at all anymore. They are profiting from postage fees to put people off overcharging - I'd say most people don't overcharge.

Anyway vinted I'm finding a bit hit and miss. Most things are fairly cheap at a buy it now type price and you can negotiate (so items don't make much profit) the postage fee appears separately and you can choose Royal Mail or Hermes in my area. And then there is a buyer protection fee of around £1 per item as insurance.

I've found quite a few sellers are dishonest about the condition and have received things with holes and pulls and the incorrect size! Buyer protection fee protects against this and will refund you but the cost of sending back it down to the buyer :/

If someone favourites items you can message saying you are open to offers, you can wait to receive an offer or you can reduce the price of you listing by editing which will send them a notification which will inform them of a reduction. And might entice them in.

RulesRulesRulesRulesRules · 03/06/2021 18:57

Oooo! Just sold my first item full price on vinted. And buyer has sent label. So much easier!! Grin

LizzieMacQueen · 17/06/2021 11:32

Coming on to moan about the vinted app.

I sold & sent two items but then I get an alert 'get ready to post your item'. GREAT. I think I've sold another but no, it's a reminder to post.

Argh, I prefer ebay's app. Plus on ebay you can preview before listing.

Plus (final moan). Everything on vinted is dirt cheap and still buyers try knocking you down.

Plus (ok this is the final moan) I have to drop at Hermes which is a 6 mile drive !! But that's on me or can I select royal mail only?

Sorry, ranting over.

iduno · 17/06/2021 12:58

I've not sold on Vinted but I have bought. Might be no fees but stuff seems to be so much cheaper on Vinted than ebay. So not sure I'd sell that much as I know I can get more on eBay. I just always put it on buy it now when they have £1max fee wkends or recently I've been getting sent 80% off fees wkends!

IncessantNameChanger · 26/06/2021 21:52

I found on the last 80% off fees day on Ebay I couldn't get any interest in my items. A bundle of pristine girls 8 pairs of Next leggings at £3.5 got 5 views.

Vinted is hit and miss. I have sold some things and got some bargains.

However I also have bought a load of ripped shit on Vinted listed as Very good condition' it was cut on purpose to extend the neck of a kids top and with a 2" rip and getting a refund was a PITA.

I have just sold two dresses genuinely worn once at £2 each. The buyer has just left feedback saying they was filthy. They wasn't.

So on balance I hate both now, unless I'm selling some Boden, Joules etc it's a faff for low return. However if you want to take a punt on a Bundle of kids clothes or a bag for under £10 what's not too love? I'm not sure selling on Ebay is worth the fees and Vinted is much slower to shift things, so you list them and wait. With Ebay at least you know no one wants it after 7 days.

LizzieMacQueen · 21/07/2021 13:15

Reigniting this thread now I've sold a grand total of 4 items!

I don't like it. You're out of pocket until they click they've received it. Something I sent last week they've still not confirmed received but I see Vinted will transfer the funds 30 days later. What can I do, I already sent a message asking them if they'd received the package. At £1.99 there wasn't the cash to send it signed for.

Depechemodebiggestfan · 26/07/2021 18:58

I sell on eBay , FB, Vinted and depop. I like eBay the best. I’m there 18 years now and I found it the best, even with the fees etc.
Fb marketplace can be ok if good stuff selling. There are days I sold lots and weeks I sold none.
Vinted is ok but takes long time to get money, I sell rarely now. When I started on. I Ted I sold 14 items in the beginning. People want everything cheap with free postage there.
Also I bought items there and are dump for the bin really.
Just bought Joules jacket and the zip is ripped out! It was not described, plus is very faded and it was supposed to as new in condition.
Anyway I can sort it myself as apparently refunds takes too much fuss- but if it would be on eBay I would ask for partial refund!
Depop is more like expertise rare items really. And it’s much pricier than Vinted.
I go there to find an items which are not in shops anymore- more like youngish cool trend- not mainstream items.
I never sold anything on Depop though..

xsquared · 30/07/2021 11:05

Watching with interest. I didn't realise you're at the mercy of the buyer to receive payment for what you sell on Vinted.
