Ebay has changed.

Anyone tried these other options?
Are they better / easy to use?
Which do you prefer & why?

@xsquared yes you are but generally it’s ok.
I was also worried about it before I started on Vinted but I sold about 50 items since I started and all of them I got paid as soon they got the parcel and all left me a nice feedback.

Depechemodebiggestfan · 30/07/2021 12:17

@xsquared and also the tracking on Vinted works really well. Both the buyer and seller get notified when the buyer receives the item so it works like a reminder to the buyer to issue the payment. The buyer can’t say that item not delivered as it’s all fully tracked.
Nothing like this it’s on Ebay. On eBay private sellers sometimes send item late and no tracking.
Most of the time I ask for the tracking so I can see if it was not delivered somewhere else ( happened to me before)

xsquared · 30/07/2021 17:26

Thanks @Depechemodebiggestfan for the tips.

I understand that buyer pays postage, so does this mean that you just list the item you want to sell for not including postage? For example, I list a dress for £5, and let's say it costs £3 postage which I do not include in my listing, but when buyer clicks checkout it comes up as £8 for them? Or would I need to list it for £8? I hope that makes sense.

Depechemodebiggestfan · 30/07/2021 17:32

#@xsquared
Do you mean Vinted? The postage is separately listed.
I always list just the price and there are options for postage underneath.
I think they have contract with Hermes so the postage option is cheap but I don’t use that as I don’t have Hermes parcel shop near me .
I used Royal Mail only and have it listed as other .
But when I buy items on Vinted, I can usually choose from 2-3 postage options available. Last week I bough an item and the postage was free if I choose Hermes parcelshop pick up ( I asked DH to pick it up for me )
Otherwise there was Royal Mail option for £5 or Hermes delivery for £4.

Yes @Depechemodebiggestfan. Thanks again, I think I will get an account and observe a bit first while I am on holiday before taking the plunge to sell!

I have just started to use Vinted for buying and I really like it. I suppose it helps that I found some real bargains on specific items I was looking for.

My first buy - some brand new designer shoes arrived today and I got the pop up to remind me to release the payment. I like this system better than eBay.

The shoes were as described - not worn and appear to be genuine so I'm happy.

I'm keeping an eye on it now to see about selling as I have so many clothes that I don't wear although most of them I do like.

Following. I've always used eBay but looking at Vinted since eBay changed. I think I'll try selling kids stuff on vinted to see how I go but stick with eBay for more valuable stuff.

sunshineandshowers21 · 06/08/2021 00:27

@BumpyBoobs i’ve made over £600 on vinted in two months selling women’s clothes, but i’ve found that men’s and kid’s don’t sell so well. i put loads of very lightly used kid’s designer stuff (ralph lauren, burberry, hugo boss) for about 1/5 of the retail price and i’ve still got people sending me messages offering me £5 which is driving me nuts! i’ve never used ebay but i’m considering using it to sell stuff like that. i do like how items are tracked on vinted though, much easier to see where the parcel is and makes it harder for people to blag not receiving the item.

LizzieMacQueen · 06/08/2021 09:23

I'm repeating myself here but be aware that funds don't get released until the buyer clicks 'received' so if you're using RM non tracked service, it can take 3 weeks to get paid. And of course you're out of pocket for the postage costs.

I'm returning to Ebay. I think on balance the fees are worth it. It's got a more developed system IMO.

Ebay seller offer of 80% final fees too ATM.

Postage question:
Is it OK to use recycled postage bags/boxes and envelopes?

I've always just stuck a new label on an old envelope but wonder whether things have changed since Covid.

AlfieandAnnieRose · 06/08/2021 20:53

@xsquared yes it’s fine, I buy a lot so I reuse all the packaging I receive! Just make sure there’s no rips of course

AlfieandAnnieRose · 06/08/2021 21:01

@BumpyBoobs it’s worth trying. I buy and sell a lot of children’s clothes, also sold some books and games. I set the prices I want them to sell at and if I’m not happy with any ‘offers’ I’m given then I just decline. As mentioned above you do get some people who wants things for nothing on vinted, but the pros outweigh the cons. I’ve sold so much on vinted in the past year and only a handful on eBay.

Thanks @AlfieandAnnieRose.

BumpyBoobs · 06/08/2021 23:44

Thanks @sunshineandshowers21 its not designer stuff I'm selling, just Next, Monsoon, kids stuff. If kids stuff doesnt sell too, I'll stick it on eBay. I'm an old hand at it!
@AlfieandAnnieRose thanks, I will give it a try. I'll try anything once! Still getting used to the app just now. the whole payment when you get it is unsettling!!

Depechemodebiggestfan · 07/08/2021 12:26

I just had a new experience on Vinted. I bough something and the seller never posted it.
I just got email from Vinted that they cancelled the transaction as seller never posted and refund issued.
If you don’t post/ upload the postal info within 5 days they will refund the buyer.
Much easier than on EBay where you have to open Not received item case, wait for certain time and then wait for refund.

Campervan69 · 10/08/2021 19:24

Bit of a bad experience here with Vinted. Bought some boots described as very good condition. They were delivered over the weekend when we were away. I opened them Monday, they were terrible condition so I emailed the seller to ask to return them. They blocked me and didn't reply. I raised an issue with vinted who said because they'd been delivered and I didn't raise an issue within 2 days there was nothing I could do. I can't even leave feedback for the seller as they have blocked me. The buyers protection thing seems pointless. Vinted customer service absolutely terrible. So I am £30 down and won't buy off there again. Be warned.

Campervan69 · 10/08/2021 19:27

Also got this message which has not helped in any way "Sorry that I didn't notice it first. You can't leave feedback to the seller not because they blocked you, but because they deleted their account.

Sorry again. And I'm sorry that you faced this situation on Vinted.

I wish you a wonderful evening"

Taking the piss!

xsquared · 16/08/2021 08:00

Just sold my first item within hours of listing it.

Haven't got the money yet so hopefully, it will be well received.
