Is anyone in the same position? I have a business account and a private account and since the new payment system has kicked in its been dismal ☹ hardly any sales! This time last year it was doing brilliant 😥

Why would the new payment system affect SALES?

Only sellers notice a change!

If stuff isn't selling then you need to look at what you're selling and/or your prices.

whiskeyfoxtrotcharlie · 31/05/2021 22:19

I agree that it seems slow at the moment. Bank Holidays are usually a good time for selling but I guess everyone is outside at the moment making the most of the good weather?

Bopahula · 31/05/2021 22:21

I'm a buyer, I liked the simplicity of PayPal. I haven't looked into what the new way is for me to now buy, I've heard that its bank details etc. So at the moment I've switched to Facebook market place. Most people will now post and I can still use PayPal for it.

oprahwindfuryy · 31/05/2021 22:29

I’ve switched to buying on Amazon, I only stuck with eBay for PayPal and the protection

LizzieMacQueen · 01/06/2021 10:10

As a private seller I've noticed this too. I didn't think there was a link but if it makes things even a tiny bit harder for a buyer then I guess the removal of paypal will be the reason.

I've also noticed a much harder 'sell' from Ebay trying to get me to promote stuff. Is that new or have I hit a certain sales target and this is now unlocked to me?

whiskeyfoxtrotcharlie · 01/06/2021 11:18

I very much dislike the new ebay 'Selling Overview' too – it's constantly pestering me to send offers to buyers or add specifics to my listings (guess what ebay – my Banana Republic utility jacket is not Chewbacca-themed, is not part of a 'character family' and does not have any 'accents', crocheted, rhinestones or otherwise).

roses2 · 02/06/2021 14:49

I wonder how they are going to deal with disputed transactions if they place the money directly in the seller bank account. Previously they would just freeze Paypal funds but they can't do that anymore.

Sweetslumber · 02/06/2021 15:19

It’s too slow & a bit risky to buy.
Although I can still transfer money by PayPal it goes straight into the sellers bank account and can take up to two days to get there.
This delays shipping and money isn’t held safely in the sellers PayPal account for a while like before.

Sorry but this is nonsense.

Ebay have swapped one online payment portal that they had control over, for another. As far as buyers are concerned, there is no change whatsoever! The protection they had before still applies EXACTLY as it did before.

Also, sellers should NOT be waiting for the money to reach their bank account before shipping. As soon as a buyer has paid, the item should be shipped. If they don't, they'll start racking up late shipping black marks.

The ONLY noticeable change from a sellers perspective is that you can no longer go into PP and transfer the money to your bank the instant the buyer pays, although if money is so tight that you'd need to do that, you probably shouldn't be selling on eBay in the first place as how would you afford to deal with disputes?

Personally I think it's a much smoother system - I just hope they bring back the £1 FVF offers!

The same way they did before if your PP account didn't have funds in it to cover the refund. They'll repay the buyer and reclaim the money from you.

If they can't, they'll enforce the money owed as a debt and you'll have bailiffs turning up.

The only difference is that previously, it would be Paypal enforcing the debt. Not it's Ayden. I suspect they have access to equally good debt collection agencies.

Gingefringe · 03/06/2021 18:28

I've noticed that my sales are really slow at the moment as well. Maybe buyers are using Vinted and Depop instead?
I dont quite understand why people are saying that buyers can't use Paypal and dont have Paypal protection - they still do, and in fact have the option to use their credit cards as well. As far as I'm aware the new payment structure only affects sellers, not buyers.
I'm also looking for more £1 final selling fee promotions.

This. I haven’t noticed a difference as a buyer and seller.

AddressLabel · 07/07/2021 15:44

I don’t see how it takes 2 days to transfer money into your account. If I send money via internet banking it shows up in the other persons account within a couple of hours. Ebay must be raking in the interest on this. I’ve ditched ebay selling because of this. I’m not waiting 2 days for my money and be expected to post out before I get paid. Screw that. I can afford to just post things before getting the money but I don’t see why I should. I’m voting with my feet and going elsewhere.

MouldyPotato · 07/07/2021 15:47

I think more people are going out to the shops now so that's affected things for me. That and all the newer apps.

MouldyPotato · 07/07/2021 15:49

As soon as a buyer has paid, the item should be shipped yeah I post it as soon as I'm told to by ebay. I'd have a load of angry customers if I waited.

MidnightMeltdown · 08/07/2021 12:08

I used to buy things on eBay, but have been put off by having to deal with some really rude, horrible sellers. It's just not worth the hassle to me anymore.

I also find that a lot of eBay sellers charge extortionate amounts for posting small items, well above what it would actually cost to post the item.

Gothichouse40 · 08/07/2021 12:14

I never charge the customer postage. I have a couple of things to sell on Ebay, but have found getting to grips with the changes rather hard going. I preferred their other system. I don't sell alot, just from time to time.

Sillyduckseverywhere · 08/07/2021 12:33

As a buyer I liked PayPal.
I've actually uninstalled the ebay app because I doubt I'll use it.
I used to spend a lot on clothes and designer bags, but I think it's had it's day to be honest. The postage always seems high and bargains seem rare.
I loved the bootsale feel of it, but it's changed so much over the years I only use it as a last resort now.
I'd imagine the payment changes have prompted a lot of customers to leave it once and for all.

IncessantNameChanger · 11/07/2021 23:05

If its secondhand clothes it's a saturated market with Vinted etc.

I was looking at some brand new trainers for dd on Vinted, but by the time you add the fee and postage the £1 trainer was £5 something and I got a pair from H&M free post in the sale for £9 knowing I could get free postage refund if they didnt fit.

Bundles are worth it but again I can pick up carrier bags off FB with no postage fee.

As a pp has said now the shops are open i think people are enjoying that again. Lockdown definitely boosted my sales

KirstenBlest · 12/07/2021 21:54

Why would it affect sales? Because ebay have changed how the payment works so I have stopped selling for a bit.I now have an ugly grey flag against me for being a below standard seller.

Puts me right off them.

The flag is because I had things returned.
I can't help it if people don't read the description on my listing.

woodhill · 02/08/2021 18:17

Yes and it keeps asking you to add item specifics which are irrelevant and I do wonder if anyone can see what I'm selling.

Fabric type option like satin for instance, I don't know or stupid options for type of blouse

I hate the offers thing and when you relist it automatically puts offers in and removes postage costs so it's a real pain

SquirryTheSquirrel · 02/08/2021 18:21

As a buyer I liked PayPal

You can still use PayPal as a buyer.

Arrowheart · 08/08/2021 16:07

Listing an item on ebay just isn't worth the hassle anymore. The item specifics section is a pain as it practically asks you to count the number of stitches in each item or the number of sequins etc. before you can list. Also, I loved PayPal as a seller as it was my own private pot of funds which I could choose when to transfer to my bank account.

The specifics are an absolute pain plus the automatic relist which allows offers and then you have to put postage in again

This time last year was lockdown. Everyone’s sales shot through the roof. You can’t compare
