bid on pair of shoes-starting price £5 im only bidder.30 minutes to go i get this email-
hi sorry but i have just realised that i put the wrong start bid price for the shoes as i'm selling them for a friend and she said to put start bid of £15 not £5 so sorry but when this listing ends i will have to relist them at the proper start bid, as she paid over £50 for them brand new.
what can i do.

Sorry that should be 'no need to EMAIL her at all'.

dee24 · 23/10/2007 23:11

No, I wouldn't pay. For all you know she could withdraw the money to her bank then not send anyway, either just ignoring you or pretending she had sent it.

moljam · 23/10/2007 23:12

right dee24 used your email idea.i sent invoice then sent message.i want to go bed but want to see what happens.

dee24 · 23/10/2007 23:16

I'd just go to bed ( I am, soooo tired ) she may well not be on just now and might not respond straight away, sometimes people take ages! Leave it to the morning now and let us know if you hear back from her.

moljam · 23/10/2007 23:18

ok.thankyou so much for your help.i know ive not lost anything but just makes me bloody angry!

OP posts:
dee24 · 23/10/2007 23:23

your welcome! But put it this way, if nobody else bid on them but you, what on earth makes her think she will sell them for £15 plus P&P. So if she does relist I would doubt she would sell them and it will be her loss. Goodnight!

moljam · 23/10/2007 23:24

im only one with bad taste in shoes!

spottyshoes · 23/10/2007 23:55

Silly woman, you win for a fiver you pay a fiver - tough sh!t on her part.

I for one love the shoes - not suprising judging by my name!

spottyshoes · 23/10/2007 23:57

That might not read too well - i meant she silly woman not you!

moljam · 24/10/2007 11:26

right got this message now-
'
i didnt realise in time as i have been away on holiday and just checked my item last night, when i had the chance. if i was at home i would have ended it a lot earlier. i wasn't worried about getting allot for the item but if i did sell it at that price it would have cost me money, which i hav'nt got. sorry'

what now?

dee24 · 24/10/2007 11:44

Ok, here is where my detective side comes out. On doing a search on bids in her name over the past week, she has bid on a pink radley bag which ended on the 20th. and also a few thing which ended on the 18th. She listed the shoes on the 16th. So again she is lying. Just about to do another email for you

dee24 · 24/10/2007 11:44

ps. bids were placed on those dates!

moljam · 24/10/2007 11:45

blimey, you are fantastic!!!when i next need a undercover detective i'll be asking you!!

OP posts:
ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 24/10/2007 11:48

Tough, I'm afraid. You can't force her to send you the shoes.

LazyLinePUMPKINJane · 24/10/2007 11:48

Remember you can set a sniper to place bids for you on specific dates!

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 24/10/2007 11:49

The Ebay rules you state say she is allowed to do this...

You might end your listing early because:

There was an error in the starting price or reserve amount (and it's too late to change the reserve amount).

and then

If it's too late to edit or end your listing, for example, it's less than 12 hours before the end of the auction, you must contact any bidders to explain what's happened.

dee24 · 24/10/2007 11:54

Ok, time to not be so nice But still in a friendly way

Dear ***

I find it strange that you managed to access your account while away to bid on the pink radley bag on the 20th, and also you purchased several cds after the listing of this item. Why did you not amend it then? You would have seen the error then so I don't believe for a minute that you didn't see the error until last night.
Also, as a seller myself I know that selling something at £5 plus £6 postage WILL earn you money. Fee's etc will not exceed £11, a pound or so at the very most and postage would only be a couple of pounds.
Also I would like to warn you that they are currently on sale for £25 brand new, it may prove difficult to sell them at £21.
If you do not wish to complete the transaction then that is fine, but please be aware that I will have to report the incident to ebay, and after investigation by ebay the appropriate feedback will be left.

Kind Regards *

If she still responds then tell her to stuff it then and report her. Good luck.

dee24 · 24/10/2007 11:55

Meant if she still responds saying no!

Washersaurus · 24/10/2007 11:56

I'd just email the seller and say that as she has made a 'genuine' mistake with start price, that you would be happy to leave the shoes - but remind her that it will cost her money to relist them anyway. I would also point out that you are not interested in bidding on them again if they are relisted, and that there is no guarantee there will be ANY other bidders next time

dee24 · 24/10/2007 11:59

I am good if I say so myself! As to sniper bids, she bought a jane norman dress buy it now on the 18th after the shoes were listed so that rules that out.
I could make a career out of this..........

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 24/10/2007 12:02

But she hasn't done anything that contravenes Ebay rules. Not that you can prove.

And you won't get the shoes anyway.

SeaShells · 24/10/2007 12:05

She can refuse to sell you this item. However she's already incurred listing fees and final value fees on this item, and obviously wouldn't be able to sell them for more if relisted as at £5 you were the only bidder. I can only assume that she recieved a better offer from someone who contacted her to do the sale off ebay, which isn't allowed. She will loose the fees incurred already and no doubt receive neg feedback from you. What an odd woman! Looking at her feedback, some buyers have left her feedback previously saying that the sale didn't go through due to item being unavailable after purchase, she obviously makes a habit of withdrawing sales if she either sells elsewhere/changes her mind/wants more money etc.

dee24 · 24/10/2007 12:05

But the reason she has done it is clear and that IS breaking the rules. If you really like the shoes then the email is worth sending as she might realise that you know fine well what she's up to and may well send them out. But if not then stuff it, it will be her loss.

dee24 · 24/10/2007 12:07

And also, she can only get the fees back if she reports you as a non paying bidder, it's seems so pointless. Silly lady!

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 24/10/2007 12:09

What she has done meets the criteria set out in Ebay's rules though.
