Right I've got a pram on ebay, its just ended (one of my coach prams) at £50

I have just received an email from a person who enquired about it a couple of days ago, she said she missed the end of the auction but has offered me £100 for it!

God what do I do???

Would you sell it for more and stand up the buyer (who is a shop) or what!

Bloody hell why is nothing ever easy!

F&Z its got about 2 days left on it there are about 25 people watching it.

I just want to run away now, really dont need this stress

You can't just forget the lot of it Hilllary, the person has bought the pram and it is legally theirs

look here is how you end an auction

if your auction has less than 12 hours to go then you will have to contact the highest bidder, but otherwise that link will do it

ask us if you need help with any of it, I know it can be baffling but JUST ASK

Oh I really dont know what to do. What will happen if I dont answer anyone or go back to ebay? I know this sounds cowardly but will ebay take legal action?

You should sell it to the highest bidder (i.e. £50). That is the contract which has been made at the end of hte auction. If you sell 'offline' you are breaking rules, don't have any ebay protection...you might as well meet down some dark alleyway.

Someone involved may see this. Ebay can see your messages (presumably the contact has been made via your ebay account). Morally I think you have to make the sale at £50.

Hilllary · 20/05/2007 22:09

Oh I suppose I'm going to have to sell it for £50 God thats going to hurt!

Hilllary - I can understand how stressful it may appear.

Is this the first thing you have sold on your account?

SlightlyMadSquare · 20/05/2007 22:10

I see I wa way out of time. I didn't realise I was gone that long.

Hilllary · 20/05/2007 22:11

Yes - and the last

Its not stressful. If you sell to the winning bidder youve got £50 in your pocket and a lesson learnt, a harsh one. And your other items will sell too and you will have made 2 successful transactions on ebay.
And next time you want a set amount, start it at that price. If noone bids, your price is unrealistic.

Wotzsaname · 20/05/2007 22:17

Might I suggest that you contact the shop (via phone?) - say that you are a complete novice and ask for pity?

You thought you had used a reserve prices etc..blah blah..., but as a complete novice, it didn't work...

sorry folks but this is not someone sceaming, it is a genuine mistake.

SlightlyMadSquare · 20/05/2007 22:19

Are you unhappy with your other auction at the moment? If not let it run - you'll make some money there too - you never know it could make up for a little that you have lost here.

You have not done anything wrong (as far as the rules are concerned) - unless you decide to take this item off the auction and sell for £100. The only thing you could have considered doing wrong is not setting a reserve price if you would not have been happy with £50. Had you have not been offered £100 - would you have been happy with £50?

FrannyandZooey · 20/05/2007 22:22

I think Wotzaname's idea is ok, of course the shop are within their rights to insist the pram is sent

I am not suggesting she is scamming Wotza, but if she takes the higher offer then she is conning the shop out of what is rightfully their property

Hilllary · 20/05/2007 22:23

Thanks Wotzername, I think I should do that, I will call them in the morning and see what they say. I think I will stick to MN classifieds in future.

OP posts:
Hilllary · 20/05/2007 22:25

No I woulnt have been happy with £50, I could have got that on MN months ago.

Wotzsaname · 20/05/2007 22:25

I know FrannyandZooey , I'd even forgotton about the higher offer TBH !

True if they say 'tough luck' it is theirs, no further discussion.

FrannyandZooey · 20/05/2007 22:30

Hilllary, you posted saying "please tell me what to do". We have told you. Please ask if you need any more help in sorting this out.

hatwoman · 20/05/2007 22:33

FandZ - i was so wound up about getting dh a bloody nintendo wii that I expect I didn;t read it!

hillary - I do sympathize, buying the wii was the most stressful thing I've ever done and I swore I wasn;t going to go near ebay again!

does anyone know if there are rules that prevent Hillary from offering the buyer a cash incentive to withdraw from the sale? ie Hillary offers her £20, buyer accepts, allowing Hillary to sell it for £100, so netting £80, instead of £50? I just do have a load of sympathy because it is a nightmare for a first timer

shonaspurtle · 20/05/2007 22:39

I'm a bit suspicious of this person offering £100 though. Looking at past sales of similar prams they do seem to be going for around the £60 mark. A lot with higher reserves didn't sell. It seems to be Marmet prams from the 50s etc that are selling for £100+ (I know nothing about prams btw - just looked at completed listings for Marmet + coach).

Why would you contact someone and offer double the finishing price? It just sounds a bit too good to be true so I'd be wary.

Hilllary · 20/05/2007 22:41

Oh hatwoman i'm glad I'm not on my own, Its like driving on a motorway for the first time you nervously get on and have to keep going with the husstle & busstle until you turn off soemwhere you dont know and get totally lost(If you get me) thats how it feels to me.

Thats a good idea but not sure that the shop will be that interested as the pram is immaculate with all accessories (retail should be about £300 at least as its a limited addition and unused, the canopy alone would be about £50

OP posts:
hatwoman · 20/05/2007 22:43

dh has just pointed out that "most stressful thing I've ever done" is perhaps over-egging it but it was a nightmare!

FrannyandZooey · 20/05/2007 22:44

Try it Hilllary. If they insist at least you will know you have done your best.

Hilllary · 20/05/2007 22:45

Thanks F&Z you have been a help

FrannyandZooey · 20/05/2007 22:49
