Spidey senses in overdrive??

Plopster · 09/05/2018 12:23

Sent package by Proof Of Postage 2nd class 11 days ago.

Still not allegedly received by purchaser who has previously asked for the reference number.

I have NEVER been asked for this in over 700 transactions.

Buyer is asking for ideas as to what has happened and my spidey senses tell me she is about to try & screw me over despite her good feedback.

RM website tells me there is no news & it will update when an attempt at delivery is made.

Should I not have given her the reference number?

Pls advise. Thankyou.

I’m not quite sure what you mean here?

Why do you think you shouldn’t have given the reference number? The reference number just shows if an item has been delivered or not?

The item clearly hasn’t been delivered and it looks like the buyer is trying to see if you have any idea why, before they open a not received claim with eBay.

Why on earth would she be trying to “screw you over”, when you an see the item hasn’t been delivered? Confused

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 09/05/2018 12:45

If the Royal Mail website is saying they haven't even tried to deliver, how is it the buyers fault?

Ohyesiam · 09/05/2018 12:45

What does giving the reference number imply?

PiggeryPorcombe · 09/05/2018 12:46

The buyer is presumably just wanting to check that you've not screwed them over. If Royal Mail haven’t delivered the item you need to take it up with them. Not the buyers fault/problem.

Tartyflette · 09/05/2018 12:50

I have often been given the tracking number, unasked, of an item I've bought on ebay -- I thought it was quite normal.
Unless the 'reference number' is a different thing.
I think it's OK for a buyer to ask for a reference number, or indeed any more info, if they haven't received their item after 11 days!

Sounds to me like RM have lost it.

Plopster · 09/05/2018 13:22

I sent by PoP, not Recorded/Signed for.

The reference number confirms I have posted the goods to a specific address with the weight of the parcel with no signature required.

I assumed (wrongly it seems by all on here) that the buyer can claim they haven’t received the parcel (owing to no signature being needed) and therefore qualifying for a full refund despite receiving the goods.

Plopster that isn’t correct. Ebay will accept a reference number to accept that an item has been delivered and then close out a INR case in the sellers favour.

I’d assume that buyer wanted it to check it had

1 - actually been posted
2 - been sent to the correct address
3 - if it had been marked as delivered, it might be worth checking with neighbours in case one of them took in the parcel.

Plopster · 09/05/2018 14:19

According to RM because I didn’t send it by their ‘Signed For’ service I don’t have a case for compensation.

You’re still insured up to £20. The fact that the reference number states the item has been delivered may throw a spanner in the works (but this is the same scenario, even if you did pay extra for a signed for service).

If you push hard enough they will pay out.

You do need to wait 10 working days though, before you can claim. So they wouldn’t accept a claim from you at this point anyway?

19lottie82 · 09/05/2018 15:00

Whoops sorry ignore my post above. The reference number shows the item HASN’T been delivered so you can definitely claim, after 10 working days without a problem.

All you need to do if file a claim online. It’s very easy.

Who told you that you couldn’t?

You refund the buyer, then you can claim up to £20 compensation from RM if it hasn't been delivered. You, the sender, have to do this, not the buyer.

If the item was worth more than £20, you should have sent it Signed For.

Plopster · 10/05/2018 15:05

A member of staff behind the PO Counter told me I was unable to claim. I then later on looked online and RM website says I can claim. However, I cannot see any links to an actual form or online form. There aren’t any on the ‘Claims Process’ page.

Good valued at £11.

Link is here in red bubble, but when I click it says you need to be at a computer, not a mobile device.

You can claim 10 working days (2 weeks) after item was sent.

helloflamingogo · 10/05/2018 15:35

You can claim, use the contact us form

Plopster · 11/05/2018 20:48

Thankyou all. I will start the claim this weekend. Oh joy!

Take a look through ALL the buyers feedback, left for others and received and see if there is anything mentioned about items gone missing or refunds.

You can report a buyer if it looks dodgy.

19lottie82 · 12/05/2018 21:16

Toad the reference number clearly shows that the item hasn’t been delivered. Nothing dodgy about that!

PurplePotatoes · 12/05/2018 21:18

Claiming is easy, I've done it twice (both eBay items!). It only takes 5 mins and the cheque comes through very quickly in my experience. You just need to upload screenshot of proof of postage, copy of eBay sale page etc.

Plopster · 12/05/2018 22:41

I am dubious because I have looked up the references of other packages delivered to other buyers and the RM site says they haven’t been delivered, yet feedback from purchasers says that have indeed received items & are pleased with the goods.

This is what I meant by my title of the thread, could the purchaser on this occasion be abusing the system?

OP posts:
19lottie82 · 13/05/2018 07:24

Honestly? There could be a slight possibility, yes. But I doubt it. And even if they are, as long as the parcel isn’t shown as delivered, there would be nothing you can do about it.

Don’t waste your energy on this. Get the buyer to open a case, refund them and file a claim with Royal Mail.

PiggeryPorcombe · 13/05/2018 07:46

Well it’s Royal Mail at fault if they’ve not updated the system to show the items have been delivered. What’s the point of the facility otherwise?

19lottie82 · 13/05/2018 14:44

I’ve never encountered a problem with RM not updating statuses to delivered - I sell 100 items a week, most not signed for and I check each one. Very odd that the OP has encountered multiple.

Plopster · 13/05/2018 16:04

I know, lottie, I’m getting bad vibes in this one transaction.
