New fees on e-bay

LowFatMilkshake · 02/04/2007 20:14

has anyone else noticed that e-bay are now charging you to list an item as well as taking a cut of what you sold it for??

Have they always done this? If so I dont recall it being flagged before.

If I sell something on e-bay, by the time I have paid the listing price, the fee (according to the end price) and paypal fees - I am almost to a point where I say what's the point.

Is this e-bay trying to squeeze out those who use it as a way of recylcing there families stuff??

Not feeling very happy about it at the moment.

Perhaps because I also have an unpaid item of 2 weeks and a seller who doesnt take paypal and who has'nt contact me to tell me how and where to send my cheque - just feeling jaded!

no, they've always done this!

depends on how much your start price is as to whaat the fee is

FrannyandZooey · 02/04/2007 20:15

eBay have always charged listing fees - not sure what you are thinking of?

I have noticed 3 threads from you about unhappiness with eBay (I am not stalking you, just noticed!) - maybe it is not the place for you?

Imawurzelcoveredinchocolate · 02/04/2007 20:17

I noticed this the other week . it's annoying!!
I remember having to pay for listing odd 12p here and there, and paypal fees but was whan i read that they wanted a cut of end price.
I got some stuff i want to sell and thinking about ebay but then i think about the fees etc and think like you....what's the point?
May as well charity shop it.

Winestein · 02/04/2007 20:18

As per Ellie - they always have. You jsut have to be selective about what you put on. If you actually want to recycle, go to a charity shop or freecycle perhaps?

Also, if you go to the item you have won, press "pay" and then highlight the "pay by cheque" button, the next page gives you their address to send a cheque to.

Glad you haven't bought anything off me!

EllieKthePA · 02/04/2007 20:19

LFM tried that Winestein (i think) but it said they have not provided the address to ebay yet, it is their first sale

Winestein · 02/04/2007 20:20

They have always wanted a final value fee too (certainly whilst I have been selling anyway) wurzle.

Do you two live in an alternate Ebay-space?

Imawurzelcoveredinchocolate · 02/04/2007 20:21

I don't mind paying by cheque or being paid by cheque.
Whan someone paid me recently by cheque they e-miled me and asked how much longer item was going to take to be delivered, it's like when cheque has cleared, when i get to town (which is normally on a sat, says that in my listings) then you will get your item.

Imawurzelcoveredinchocolate · 02/04/2007 20:22

winestein- my brain doesn't register much stuff this time of day
I prob read op wrong.

Winestein · 02/04/2007 20:23

I have heard of that, although I thought you had to provide an address to start selling? There is another option - you can request the contact details for them - they may have a phone number on file.
If all else fails, register a Seller not selling dispute. They will take notice of that IME.

Winestein · 02/04/2007 20:24

Lol Wurzle - I'm only ribbing you anyway

I have been succesfully buying and selling on e-bay for over a year, I have a nice 100% feedback. I always treat others as I want to be treated. But in the last fortnight I have not been having a good time.

I dont want to make enemies - I just want to sell stuff we dont want anymore and thereby raise a little money to buy other stuff we need.

The fees I am talking about are not listing fees - they are additional to that, a cut of the final selling price. With e-bays new listing format these are highlighted with your "account balance". I have not been doing more selling than normal recently, but it is over double what it normally is - are you sure the new final cut fee is not new??

And it was me who was told seller had not registered an address and it was they're first item to be sold.

No it sounds like you have had a hassly fortnight

but these things do happen, and having to wait a couple of days for your seller to contact you is not really a big deal.

Ditto someone not paying - it's annoying, but I mean, it comes with the territory once in a while (Oh, if they don't ever pay up, make sure you reclaim your Final Value Fees from eBay! they won't make you pay them if your buyer leaves you in the lurch)

The FVF and listing fees have always been there. Maybe have a break from eBay? It's car boot season....a bit of fun and fresh air might do you good?

EllieKthePA · 02/04/2007 20:37

no new fees as far as i'm aware, maybe they're jst making them more 'obvious' to sellers to avoid confusion?

LowFatMilkshake · 02/04/2007 20:38

Oh - maybe I have been a bit too keen on the old relisiting button then - that doesnt feel likme a new listing and is easy to do in one fell swoop.

However - they are now charging listing fees at a price according to that which you are asking. So an item you list with a starting price of £5 costs more than an item started at .99p. That is new!

Is'nt it??

EllieKthePA · 02/04/2007 20:39

SoupDreggon · 02/04/2007 20:39

No, that's not new either. It's always been based on the starting price!

and if you relist an item afaik they only charge you to list it the once, the 2nd listing charge is refunded

sixlostmonkeys · 02/04/2007 20:40

The FVF for media products has doubled on march 1st - now 9% - do you list in these categories?
