New fees on e-bay

LowFatMilkshake · 02/04/2007 20:14

has anyone else noticed that e-bay are now charging you to list an item as well as taking a cut of what you sold it for??

Have they always done this? If so I dont recall it being flagged before.

If I sell something on e-bay, by the time I have paid the listing price, the fee (according to the end price) and paypal fees - I am almost to a point where I say what's the point.

Is this e-bay trying to squeeze out those who use it as a way of recylcing there families stuff??

Not feeling very happy about it at the moment.

Perhaps because I also have an unpaid item of 2 weeks and a seller who doesnt take paypal and who has'nt contact me to tell me how and where to send my cheque - just feeling jaded!

always been like that.

LowFatMilkshake · 02/04/2007 20:40

Thanks F&Z maybe you're right - too many hours bashing the keyboard.

Just got so much stuff I wanna get rid of, and I love buying on e-bay as it's less hassle than going to shops and the variety is endless. Also can get brand new stuff from abroad at less than the cost of it over here - including postage. I love e-bay for that!

Ellie that is true, as long as the item sells the second time round... if not you do pay twice

I adore eBay too LMF but it is a buyer's world on there right now

I would try boot sales or have a swap meet with friends maybe?

FrannyandZooey · 02/04/2007 20:42

sorry, I mean LFM

LowFatMilkshake · 02/04/2007 20:43

are you sure youu've sold on Ebay before

LowFatMilkshake · 02/04/2007 20:51

Yes EKPA - but I am begining to wonder about this paralell universe as so much seemes different recently.

I dont recall picking the FVF > category, I just click sell in auction.

Amd my typing is up the spout - I wonder if my buyers can even understand what the devil I write?

EllieKthePA · 02/04/2007 20:54

it's not a category LFM, it's what you pay if you list in auctions

mumfor1standfinaltime · 02/04/2007 20:59

Has always been like that. Ebay take a cut of your profits. Thats how they make money.

What makes me laugh is seeing people list something for a £1 start bid and not 99p start bid -- do they not realise that yes they get an extra 1p if it sells but it costs an extra 5p to list at £1 compared to 99p!!

LowFatMilkshake · 02/04/2007 21:01

Sorry just re-read the post, no I dont sell in Media categories - good grief I am crap on here tonight

Time to finish that bottle of wine and go to bed - I wish!

I remember when eBay was free listing, way back in the year 2000. It was great, you could put any old cack on there and not lose out if it was unsold!
Anyone remember Yahoo auctions? I sold used make up and all-sorts on there. It was totally free! Of course that's why it ended.

Just caught up with this thread again...
Gawd bless ya LFM.
Especially chuckling when you said "I dont recall picking the FVF >"
It makes me feel all maternal and I want to come round and do your auctions for you.

(PS I know it was you who said the seller had not registered an address - I was replying to you )

LowFatMilkshake · 02/04/2007 22:23

I am a nice buyer though - I would happily buy anything from anyone - I even give those with less than perfect feedback the benfit of the doubt!

My e-bay week is geting worse, I now have potentially 3 out of six items posted last week as not received.

OP posts:
Winestein · 03/04/2007 20:57

Did you get proof of posting?

LowFatMilkshake · 04/04/2007 09:59

Oh Yeah!

And I have contacted the other two people of the six I posted to who have yet to reply to see if they have received the items.

One has replied yes - the other is still yet to reply.

I will then be taking it up with the post office.

There's always ebid.co.uk although I've yet to buy or sell on there, free listings, don't know what FVFs are.
