How am I supposed to pay for this?

Hi All,

I won an item on e-bay on Staurday which is chq or postal order payment only - my fault for not looking properly.

However I have emailed the seller twice for payee and address, as they're details are'nt on e-bay and they have't responded. I want to pay for this item and get it posted as soon as possible.

What would you say is a reasonable time for me to wait before contacting e-bay? I realise 48 hours is me being a bit impatient

If it was my item selling I would be checking within 24 hours of the auction ending.

They have 72 hours in which to contact you. HTH.

scatterbrain · 02/04/2007 12:56

I thought if you went through checkout then you get the address automatically - without needing to email anyone or receive an email !

Click on Pay Now !!

LowFatMilkshake · 02/04/2007 13:26

No I clikced - pay for this item now and it said seller had'nt registeredan address iwth e-bay so contact them for payment details.

How odd - I didn't think you werw allowed to sell without registering an address !!

Well - will just have to wait for an email reply then I guess !

I hate paying by cheque nowadays - I am still waiting for an item that I won three weeks ago as the seller only posts once a week and apparently my cheque didn't clear in time for last week's post run !! AGhhhhh !

LowFatMilkshake · 02/04/2007 13:38

I only post once a week - unless I have aneed to go back in to town, but I always take cheque items regardless, as I never have huge items.

However - since last posting have had a quick look on thier feedback and this appears to be the first thing they have sold

I think I will give it a whole 72 hours as FaZ said then contact e-bay.

I've just bought from somebody who hadn't published their address and only accepted cheques or postal orders. All was fine, item received no problems.

It has been the weekend too, so maybe they've been busy. Wait the 72hrs and see.

fannyannie · 02/04/2007 20:39

perhaps it's someone like me who works funny shifts and hasn't been able to get to the computer yet. When I list stuff I've been caught out a few times by not working out whether I'll be sleeping in bed (after working night shifts) when it finishes....mind you shan't have that problem now.

FrannyandZooey · 02/04/2007 20:40

If they don't contact you tomorrow then pull their contact info and phone them

LowFatMilkshake · 03/04/2007 10:22

Right it is now 72 hours since auction ended.

4 e-mails to seller - no response. They have not registered any contact details, so no phone number or address.

Have contacted e-bay (blardy useless) I got an automated reply with a number of links to pages that might be relevant, but are not!!!

Is retracting the bid the only way I can get them to take any notice, and will this count against me??

Or should I just let it sit in my e-bay account until either the buyer or e-bay realise I ams till sat here waiting to pay for it? Trouble is if it takes too long item will be to small for DD!

72 hours isn't really that long but I realise it is frustrating.
If they are new they may not even realise they have a message section and email may go into their email spam box.
I doubt very much ebay themselves will get involved with this.
All I can suggest is that you wait 7 days then start a non performing seller dispute.

FrannyandZooey · 03/04/2007 18:31

If you have pulled their contact info and it doesn't have their correct phone or tel no on it, then you can report them and get them chucked off the site

you can't retract a bid once you have won the auction!!

I'll be back with a link

FrannyandZooey · 03/04/2007 18:33

Ok have you done this ?

(request user contact information)

FrannyandZooey · 03/04/2007 18:35

If you have done so and the info is not valid, then report them

here

I also agree that you are being pretty impatient, though. If I was a seller and I happened to be away for a few days (life does go on, even when you are eBaying ), and came back to find numerous emails from you I would think you were a PITA, tbh.

LowFatMilkshake · 04/04/2007 10:09

Alright I concede that I might be being a PITA over only waiting 72 hours.

But as a seller myself I have registered details and accept PAYPAL and I have lots of positive feedback as a good seller - not being smug, but it's what people look at.

I did send an e-mail after 72 hours and said that I was concerned I had not heard and would be contacting e-bay for advice.

I got a snotty response this morning saying child had been poorly and they were sorry I felt I had wasted my time etc. - Still no payee or address details given though??. So yes, now I do feel a bit

But in terms of "Do as you would be done by" I would not write to a buyer of mine as harshly as she has - after all they are a customer - even if it is e-bay. When my DS was in hospital the first thing I did on getting home was apologise to my buyers and sellers about not being in touch and rushed out all parcels and payment.

Here is how I replied to her today anyway:

Firstly I hope your child is better now.

I did not mean to cause offence or to hassle you.
I am sorry I sent that final e-mail, but as it had been 72 hours since the listing ended and I had not heard from you I was wondering if your e-mails were being received etc.

Looking at your feedback I noticed this was the first item you had sold and you have not registered any contact details with e-bay and I have been caught out before by people who are time wasters.

Also I did take advice on what to do from the e-bay community as I know e-bay watches activity and did not want this going against me as an unpaid transaction.

I still want the item very much and as soon as you can send me your address and payee details I will be sending you a cheque.

I am all for building abetter e-bay community and am sorry this has got us off to a bad start - but as a buyer we have no way of knowing what is going on at a sellers house.

Kind regards

  • So I will wait to see if she sends her contact details.

For anyone still looking atthis thread - update:

Seller has been in touch and also apologised for our bad start and realised her lack of registered details are partly to blame. She has offered to send me the item free of charge, which I have thanked her for but politley refused. I dont think she should be out of pocket just for a little thing like this - plus I am totally prepared to pay for the item, just need to know how. I did give he my address to hold on to till she gets the cheque, but she still has'nt given me hers. Cant help but feel she doesnt want to give her details out???

OP posts:
tinkerbellhadpiles · 06/04/2007 20:32

Hi LFMS - Hmm, I hate this sort of thing, do they really think you are going to burgle their house because you once sent a cheque there. It's daft!

Hope you get it sorted out, she's probably cooled off the deal and doesn't want to go through with it. Don't get stressed, such things happen.

Should be their slogan: 'shit happens, on Ebay'

LowFatMilkshake · 13/04/2007 10:19

It wil be two weeks tomorrow since I won this item and she has'nt given me her address or posted the item as she said she would (even though I said I would pay for it).

What should I do - I dont think I have any option but to open a dispute. I know she said her DD was poorly but surley 2 weeks is more than reasonable to want more than a couple of e-mails??

OP posts:
scatterbrain · 13/04/2007 10:39

She probabbly thinks you are a mad stalker - you were a bit OTT with your 4 hassley emails when you first won the item really !

I would give it up as a lost cause ! You haven't lost any money - it's just a bit irritating - but they are obviously too worried about something. I'd just move on !

SoupDragon · 13/04/2007 10:48

I agree. Just move on. You haven't lost anything!

As an aside, I would have been rather put out by the comment "and I have been caught out before by people who are time wasters" as the way it comes across inthe email is that is that you are calling her a timewaster.

LowFatMilkshake · 13/04/2007 15:23

In my defense she mentioned time wasting first in her inital and snooty reply.

And I know 4 hassley e-mails but it was 1 a day and all I was asking for was postal address so I could send a cheque - I would actually appreciate punctuality from such a buyer!

OP posts:
scatterbrain · 13/04/2007 15:28

I bet she won't be ebaying again - she's probably hiding behind her sofa sobbing right now !!

scatterbrain · 13/04/2007 15:28

LowFatMilkshake · 13/04/2007 15:44

She only listed the one thing - I think it's her behaviour that's strange! No address or phone number registered and only 1 item for sale. Then when we did make contact she wanted to send the item for free??

Scaterbrain you are not going to make me feel bad about this anymore.

I apolgised to the seller for hassling and she accepted it so there

OP posts:
scatterbrain · 13/04/2007 15:49

I wasn't intending to make you feel bad !

Don't blow raspberies at me plaese - we are not in the playground you know !

LowFatMilkshake · 13/04/2007 15:51

Ooh get you! I bet you were a prefect!

Serousley though - I admit I was a bit of a PITA - but dont you find her behaviour just a little strange??
