Listing some of my father's old collectables to help him out.
One item is large and heavy (I'll try and get photo up) . This is what I put in the listing,..

COLLECTION ONLY from
- this to be by CASH ONLY - NO PAYPAL for collection only, or transaction will be cancelled.
Location is easily reached by motorway and is near the *

Anyway, it was an auction listing, not buy it now. My heart sunk when I noticed the highest bidder lived in Edinburgh (item is in Hertfordshire). Oh well I thought, perhaps he's down south, or will send a friend...

Anyway I just got home and noticed that he's now paid me by Paypal and says he will be in touch as will organise courier to pick it up.

I know this is bad news as, he could say the item was not picked up, couldn't he. Also it means having to pack up the bastard of an item..which would be v difficult. My dad said to me, no way are we posting this item. The item is at his house and I don't want to put my dad to trouble He's elderly and just been diagnosed with Parkinsons. We just wanted a simple collection only Why do people not read listings? It's not a huge amount.. only sold for £32.. do we risk it? Bidder has good feedback

also it's a dirty messy old item..courier is not going to take it unpacked are they?
if i cancel listing and refund the person then they could leave me neg feedback straightaway,

Can you cancel the bid seeing as it's not compliant to your listing?

alltoomuchrightnow · 05/08/2017 18:38

The trouble is, that when you opt for Collection Only, you have to list as accepting Paypal. It's ridiculous. I tried to opt out and it wouldn't let me, Even though eBay says to take cash for collection only

RitaConnors · 05/08/2017 18:39

I'd just refund them. Tell them why. They might give you bad feedback but you can respond and it's just not worth the hassle let alone the risk.

ijustwannadance · 05/08/2017 18:39

Refund the paypal and cancel transaction.

alltoomuchrightnow · 05/08/2017 18:39

Bike, he's won it and paid. The listing ended last night and he was highest bidder.

You have to accept PayPal as an eBay seller, don't you? I'm fairly sure you can't exclude it.

elevenclips · 05/08/2017 18:41

These people are so arrogant. Obviously knew cash on collection only, no way they didn't read.

I'd cancel the sale, refund the PayPal payment.

SheRaaarghPrincessOfPower · 05/08/2017 18:41

I've had this SO many times. I refund the PayPal and cancel the auction.

alltouchedout · 05/08/2017 18:42

Sorry, cross posted, you're already very aware you can't refuse PayPal... Why not contact him direct and ask why he ignored that it was collection only?

Corneliusmurphy · 05/08/2017 18:44

Another point is if you'd offered the courier option yourself you may have got more money for it.
I'd refund and message why and if he leaves bad feedback get eBay involved; I'm sure they can clear it from your account.

alltoomuchrightnow · 05/08/2017 18:45

Dirty messy heavy huge item

Cancel the sale. They can't leave feedback after you've cancelled.

alltoomuchrightnow · 05/08/2017 18:50

Yeh I've had this before. They then always left bad feedback. Why is it then always me that has to spend hours on phone at my expense/ time trying to get through to evilbay, or get them to understand my problem.
They don't help things by refusing to let you NOT list Paypal when it's collection only.
It's my dad's item so I'm going to speak to him now and see what he says but I know it will stress him. It's a kinda sad situation. He's elderly and getting frail and as I said, just had Parkinsons diagnosis. He's something of a hoarder but he has some great collectables. He has 7 garages, shed and workshops to clear out (not to mention the loft etc!) this is why I'm helping him clear out. He doesn't want to leave it all to me and my mum when he goes. Also he gets a thrill out of seeing the bids etc. It's something of a hobby for us and this takes the enjoyment out. He likes seeing his things go to good homes as they've been stuck in his garages for decades. He is fine packing up small items but with this item well you can see why he didn't want to pack it up.

Unless I do the 50 mile round trip and do it for him, I guess,, but then he has to wait in for a courier too..another reason why we didn't want own courier. It would be worth it if the item went for hundreds or even thousands as some of his items have..but this was not v much

OP posts:
alltoomuchrightnow · 05/08/2017 18:52

Or take it back to mine and I wait for courier..it's all just such a bloody hassle, I have appointments most days, job interviews etc

drspouse · 05/08/2017 18:53

You can cancel the PayPal transaction, I've done this. In the future make sure the listing says you only have PayPal because the system makes you have it listed, but you don't accept it.
However, couriers will pack some things e.g. they x will blanket wrap furniture.

drspouse · 05/08/2017 18:54

P.s. What is it??!

alltoomuchrightnow · 05/08/2017 19:01

ha I knew someone would ask!! this is the description -

''Merryweather stirrup pump and container / lid, circa 1900

In need of some attention but very rare item!
Would possibly work if new hose provided but can't guarantee this.

Similar to the Merryweather 'Tozer' fire pump shown in the cigarette card here in the last photo (card is not for sale).

Rare unique item, only one on UK eBay that is this age, at time of listing this''

Picture shows what it was once like!

My listing states no own couriers...but guess what....
OP posts:
alltoomuchrightnow · 05/08/2017 19:02

as you can see, it's aged... ahem.... not so well !

alltoomuchrightnow · 05/08/2017 19:03

(My dad was a fireman as was his father.. I assume his dad had acquired this... we did have a whole shed full of fire memorablia at one stage, which all sold v v well on eBay)

OP posts:
IceLollyInThePaddlingPool · 05/08/2017 19:09

I hate when people do this but in this case I think I'd just send it (as long as the courier will take it not packed), it's not like it's not going to fit (clothes) and the kind of person who'd buy it is not likely to be a scammer, plus it didn't go for loads and loads. And it looks like it'd take a while to sell elsewhere.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 05/08/2017 19:17

Cancel and relist as collection only - no courier, to be collected in person by the buyer.

thekillers · 05/08/2017 19:51

Check that the courier doesn't wrap and collect. I had someone send a courier for sofa but it was more of a man with a van. He arrived with full plastic sheeting and wrapped it all

I also had an idiot give me negative feedback because after collection only no couriers they arranged a courier who gave me 2 hours notice to collect at 2pm midweek.

alltoomuchrightnow · 05/08/2017 20:34

I spoke to my dad first as although my listing, is his item.
I would have 'happily ' cancelled it but he's decided to honour it as long as buyer can give him a couple of days to find an old piece of carpet / mat to wrap round it. So I'll message buyer to tell him that. If that's not good enough then tough and I will cancel it. And a pain my dad now has to wait in for courier, but that's what he's said he'll do.
If buyer wants it wrapped in bubblewrap / card, he can fuck right off and fuck off some more. It's an old item lasted this long so, carpet or nothing!
