Listing some of my father's old collectables to help him out.
One item is large and heavy (I'll try and get photo up) . This is what I put in the listing,..

COLLECTION ONLY from
- this to be by CASH ONLY - NO PAYPAL for collection only, or transaction will be cancelled.
Location is easily reached by motorway and is near the *

Anyway, it was an auction listing, not buy it now. My heart sunk when I noticed the highest bidder lived in Edinburgh (item is in Hertfordshire). Oh well I thought, perhaps he's down south, or will send a friend...

Anyway I just got home and noticed that he's now paid me by Paypal and says he will be in touch as will organise courier to pick it up.

I know this is bad news as, he could say the item was not picked up, couldn't he. Also it means having to pack up the bastard of an item..which would be v difficult. My dad said to me, no way are we posting this item. The item is at his house and I don't want to put my dad to trouble He's elderly and just been diagnosed with Parkinsons. We just wanted a simple collection only Why do people not read listings? It's not a huge amount.. only sold for £32.. do we risk it? Bidder has good feedback

I'd ask the courier if they wrap - I think they probably will.

alltoomuchrightnow · 05/08/2017 21:00

I have no idea who the courier is

Someone did this to me, I had to box up a Thomas train set that was 6ft long with about 150 pieces and once some pieces had connected, they didn't separate so the fucker wouldn't go back in the original box. Cue a frantic scrabble to find a second box (I was planning on handing it over in carrier bags) and a day spent indoors waiting for her bloody courier.

I won't be doing that again. No no no.

bloodynoris · 05/08/2017 21:13

I would refund the payment. The problem with the buyer arranging a courier is after his got the item he could turn round and say he hasn't received it cause you didn't book the courier you have no way of proving it was deliver. If your dad is happy to send by courier then you need to arrange it and get the buyer to pay the extra.

alltoomuchrightnow · 05/08/2017 21:52

I know, Bloody. If the buyer didn't have 100% feedback we wouldn't have even considered. I'm sure it's quite a common scam which is the main reason I put no own couriers in every listing.
But my dad wants to chance it.. so... :(

I would refund and then block the buyer. I have about 5 people who can never buy from me again. eBay is alright all the time it's alright. Ffs annoying

SheRaaarghPrincessOfPower · 05/08/2017 22:36

I would book the courier yourself and ask the buyer to PayPal you the money. That way you have control and can insure etc if you need to, and there's no risk the buyer will pretend it never arrived.

For couriers that wrap it etc you want shiply, anyvan etc.

19lottie82 · 06/08/2017 09:52

Bottom line is there is always the risk with PayPal for collection items and letting the buyer use their own courier, but it's up to you if you accept that risk or not.

If you decide to cancel the order make sure you select there is an issue with the buyers address as the reason, so the buyer can't refuse it, and you won't get a defect.

If they leave you negative FB then get in touch with eBay to explain the circumstances, and they should remove it.

alltoomuchrightnow · 06/08/2017 16:33

thanks for info, Dr I'll pass those names on to buyer.
Lottie, I've had it before and eBay did remove the neg FB but what a hassle and it was me having to pay for long phone calls but hey ho.

I had this once. I refunded and blocked the buyer. They then set up fake accounts out of spite and two of them bid on another of my items and then tried the same thing again. Bonkers, and stopped me bothering with eBay again for almost 2yrs. It was only a £10 second hand bathroom cabinet too. I could not see any way to mitigate the problem.

ZippyCameBack · 06/08/2017 17:00

I've had this from time to time and I just cancel, using either buyer asked to cancel or problem with buyer's address options (anything else will cause a defect on your account). Also to avoid defects, it's better to cancel and refund through eBay rather than PayPal.
Then you can block both the buyer's username and their PayPal email address (loads of people have more than one eBay account- I have 4- but not too many have more than one PayPal email address, so it's best to make sure you block both).

Overworrier · 09/08/2017 16:29

Op, I was in the exact same position as you & Ebay advised me that the winner was abiding by your T's & C's when he purchased the items.

As such, this is his problem, not yours and has to recrify it himself.

In my case, the purchaser did actually drive down from Scotland to the Home Counties. The Paypal refund was actioned whilst I was actually on the phone to ebay and that refund was confirmed by the purchaser at that time too.

All was good in the end.

ZippyCameBack · 10/08/2017 22:09

If the buyer didn't have 100% feedback we wouldn't have even considered.
Feedback left for buyers is meaningless. Sellers can only leave positive feedback for their buyers, and even non-positive comments next to a green dot will be removed.

AllToadsLeadToHome · 13/08/2017 17:15

They have bid against your selling terms. I wouldn't let them send a courier, it is asking for problems.
You should be able to get a negative removed as you have stated no couriers in your listing.

There used to be an option to report this, but not sure if it has been changed since the site has been fiddled with so often.

MakeJam · 23/08/2017 07:01

Ask the buyer if his courier will wrap/box the item when it's collected. It's a pity to lose the sale. But I understand the inconvenience of hanging around waiting for said courier.

JaneEyre70 · 25/08/2017 22:50

Just a word of warning, we had exactly the same with a heavy item that was my late FILs. Collection only blah blah blah, then buyer pays with Paypal and asks for our address for a courier. Stupidly didn't cancel transaction, item is "damaged beyond use" on delivery and Paypal refund buyer without even waiting for us to respond. Most annoying thing was the buyer refused to send the item back, we tried to involve Police but they didn't have time to deal with it. DH was so angry he wanted to drive up there and get it back!!
