Would you cancel this order?

Sold on Sat lunchtime.

Listing specifies 3 times 'Collection only' & 'Cash on collection'.

I contact her thanking her for the purchase & offer a list of dates & times that suit to do the transaction.

No communications whatsoever from her so ebay sent her a payment reminder. I have contacted her 4 times.

She then pays by Paypal immediately. Angry

I have now asked her to confirm she is happy for me to refund the PP payment & come to me & pay cash as per the listing.

She has asked for my address (which I have previously given Hmm)

Surprise surprise....no response.

She is 300 miles away. The item was £50.

I asked ebay yesterday via their 'Contact us' page to please cancel the transaction but they haven't replied either.

Have I mucked up - can she leave me neg feedback now blaming the fact that she paid (albeit not in the correct way) and not received the item?

What do I do now as I seem to be ignored by everyone involved?!

Once a buyer pays they can leave feedback, even if you refunded her. So she can leave you negative feedback yes, but you can't to her which is annoying I know. Only thing you can do here is cancel the transaction, and loosing your final value fee (check if you do actually loose your final value fee if you do this, because I'm not certain on it) Google or eBay etc. She won't cancel, as she has shown she wants it by paying, not can you open up a case. So cancelling the order and risking negative feedback is your only option here unless she agrees to cash on collection.

ImaLannister · 03/05/2017 23:46

Or you post it if it's not furniture etc of course, n if postage wouldn't be a silly amount.

Rubbishatinteriordecor · 04/05/2017 06:33

Thankyou.

Yep - 'tis furniture Sad

Very annoying as I have 100% from almost 1000 transactions.

Still no communications from either ebay or the buyer.

Don't ask the buyer if they "would mind" ypu refudning the PP payment and paying in cash, TELL them.

If no response then You can't email eBay and ask them to cance an order, you need to do it manually.

Proceed as if you were opening an unpaid item case, and you should see an option for " I want to cance this transaction".

This will send a request for the buyer to accept. Bear in mind they can reject the cancellation. If they ignore it, it will be auto processed after a week.

I'd give them one last warning to make contact within 24 hours before you put in cancellation request tho, to minimise risk of a negative.

I always sell furniture on gumtree to avoid this kind of hassle. Collection only items on eBay is a total nightmare.

19lottie82 · 04/05/2017 08:13

Ima if you cancel a transaction on eBay you get your fees back.

ImaLannister · 04/05/2017 08:23

Cheers for the info Lottie! Good to know. Because I too sometimes have to cancel. Damn time wasters. You're the eBay Queen! Grin

ImaLannister · 04/05/2017 08:30

I agree with what Lottie says also, don't ask anyone if they mind. You need to be straight with them but polite as you can be. And I know, it's so annoying how one transaction which isn't your fault can result in ruined 100% feedback. You can request that eBay remove the bad feedback, but it's their discretion. If I'm correct negative feedback disappears after a year, it does with private sellers anyway, which I am taking that you are. Lottie knows her stuff, so take on board what she says.

19lottie82 · 04/05/2017 08:33

Thank you ladies Smile I'm not 100% correct all of the time but I like to avoid people being ripped off if I can.

As Ima says you need to be polite but firm, and I always give them a clear warning / window to act before opening a case or cancelling, you need to minimise the risk of neg in situations like this.

EBay is a great selling platform but unfortunately there are loads of idiots on there who don't get the whole "cash on collection thing"

ShiningWhit · 04/05/2017 08:43

It might be worth asking eBay via chat/rerun call for advice. They were great when I had issues similar. I think also having the convo - should things go wrong they have a record ....

Rubbishatinteriordecor · 04/05/2017 14:28

Ok....had very long productive chat with ebay Smile

3 choices for me after they confirmed I had definitely stipulated Collection only.

  1. I refund now and cancel, she leaves neg feedback which ebay will remove with no questions asked
  1. I keep hold of the funds & on the understanding the buyer knows full well I won't send it, the onus is on her. If she fails to collect within 30 days, I can keep the money and go on my merry way with no issue.
  1. She cancels & leaves neg feedback that ebay will remove.

What an eye opener this experience has been!

Surely it's down to her to arrange collection now that she's paid? Has she been in touch yet?

I have bought eBay items hundreds of miles away from where i live as my DH has a job that takes him all over the country. Likewise i have sold items that were collection only and the buyer has arranged their own courier.

19lottie82 · 04/05/2017 15:18

Sorry but number 2 is nonsense.despite the fact that would be illegal, a buyer has 180 days to open a case with PayPal for non receipt. Unless you can prove delivery PayPal would refund them straight away.

EBay live chat can be a bit unreliable with their advice so I wouldn't take it for gospel.

I wouldn't also take them on their word that they will definitely remove a neg. Sometimes they will, sometimes they won't. There doesn't seem to be any hard and fast rules.

Rubbishatinteriordecor · 04/05/2017 16:48

I sopke to them in person on the phone, it wasn't an online chat.

Yep - have just heard!!

She wants a refund, then to 'gift' me via PP the funds then send a courier.

I've never experienced this before- all advice welcome please.

OP posts:
SocksRock · 04/05/2017 16:55

Just say no. Too much hassle. Collection only, cancel the transaction and take the neg and get it removed. Waiting in for a courier? No thanks.

Gallavich · 04/05/2017 16:58

Tell her no. It's all too much work.

ragged · 04/05/2017 17:06

Why wouldn't you arrange courier yourself? I wouldn't let her arrange courier, though.

user1488397138 · 04/05/2017 17:06

OP, do not accept a "gift" PP payment. This will not protect you atall should something go wrong!
To comply with your Seller Protection you must:

  1. Send by online trackable means
  2. To the address registered with PP
That means if you accept PP for a transaction you must do the above. Failure to do so means if buyer files a not received dispute and you cannot provide tracking then they will be refunded as a matter of course. Cash on Collection only (you can't prove postage but they can't prove payment). You can mutually agree to cancel (done this a few months ago myself) and you'll get your fees back.
19lottie82 · 04/05/2017 17:23

user that only applies to a services / goods payment, a. User doesn't get any protection with a friends and family (gift) payment.

BUT I really wouldn't bother OP, it's just too much hassle stick with your stance "collection only" (no couriers).

19lottie82 · 04/05/2017 17:25

OP...... maybe what the CS advisor meant is that after 30 days the buyer won't be able to open a dispute to claim their money back through eBay (well they can, but eBay won't get involved / force a refund), but you certainly can't "keep the money", as explained the buyer has 180 days to open a PayPal dispute and the small claims would also be an option for them if you did this.

Rubbishatinteriordecor · 04/05/2017 19:10

Update:

She is kicking her toys out of the pram. She isn't believing that ebay told me that by bidding she agreed to the T's & C's in the listing.

She is going to speak to them & tell them she has no protection as a cash buyer.

Thanks for your help so far....to be continued.....

OP posts:
ragged · 04/05/2017 20:31

Since she's a cow who can't read instructions or understand transaction terms, I'd DEFINITELY not go with courier idea. Even if you organised courier, too risky, buyer will find something else to kick up a stink about.

ImaLannister · 04/05/2017 22:58

She sounds like a right tosser!** Pardon the pun won't you. It's people like that that ruin the whole eBay experience for others. She saw it was collection only, and she bid, knowing full well of the terms and conditions she was bidding on. Not only that it clearly states that when you bid you are entering into a contract and by all possible means must four fill it. Cancel the sale, because she is being very difficult and I couldn't be arsed with her. Go to the sold item and you will see a drop down menu with choices, then click cancel the order. Don't expect her to approve it, coz she probably won't. It will close In your favour after so many days if she doesn't respond anyway. Your sale, your rules, if she can't abide to that then tough shit!
Then get in touch with eBay to remove the negative feedback, explaining the convo you had with an eBay rep saying they would remove it.
Sorry if it's all a bit harsh but some buyers really piss me off.

ImaLannister · 04/05/2017 23:02

Oh forgot to mention... another one to the blocked list. Block her once it's all over with too. No one has time for that.

Rubbishatinteriordecor · 05/05/2017 03:11
Grin She hasn't replied to my message. It's turned into a bit of a wind-up game now & she is obviously trying to think of another scheme Wink

Thankyou for all the input. I switch between getting cross & wandering what her next gane will be Smile

OP posts:
ImaLannister · 05/05/2017 07:25

Don't message her anymore, you've messaged her enough now and gave her ample opportunity. You only need to message them once to say what you need to say. She will turn it around and say you was constantly messaging her, harassing her etc. Just cancel the sale. You will sell it again.
