I'm shocked - I've had a listing removed as it breaks their rules

It's for a swimming nappy/bikini age 0-3 years and they've emailed me to say they've removed it, informed my bidder and said "you're not allowed to list erotica or sexually oriented materials on eBay".

The Ann Summers toffee body sauce is still up and running and has 5 watchers!!!!

The only thing I can think is that in the heading I described it as a swimming nappy cum bikini. Maybe they've picked that up on an automatic search for certain words.

??? I've bought, and sold, reusable nappies on ebay. One I was bidding was removed, though I never understood why.

Surfermum · 11/03/2007 17:31

Well I did query it with them and have had this reply:

Hello Surfermum

I can understand your confusion about why childrens' nappies would be
removed under our Adult Materials policy. Your items were ended for the
specific reason of being used nappies. Now, while I believe that you are
not selling these items as though they are a type of fetish material, we
do have members on our site who try to sell their used undergarments in
such a fashion. As such, we have decided to put our Used Undergarments
policy under the Adult Material policy.

Although I know you only had the best intentions when selling these
items, eBay does not allow the sale of used nappies for children to be
sold on the site under any circumstances. You are free, of course, to
list brand new nappies on the site.

eBay does not permit the sale of any used undergarments. Used
undergarments would include, but are not limited to: athletic
supporters, boxer or jockey shorts, bras, briefs, full-length panty
hose, panties, and thongs.

Any hint or insinuation in the auction listing that the undergarments
have been previously worn will not be permitted.

The body drizzle does not violate any of our policies and would be fine
to list.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

I got basically the same reply when they pulled 4 listings I had put up, of wraps and a swim nappy. I thought it was cos I had lifted part of someone else's description (just the generic bits you understand) so relisted before I heard back from eBay, thinking it was a genuine mistake. But it looks like they are no longer accepting used reusables. Mine are all relisted, some with bids, all with watchers, but i think I'd better move them now, would be worse if they get pulled just at the end. What a load of old bllcks!

AbominableSnowMum · 11/03/2007 17:59

There is a petition going around about this - it is completely rediculous. You could try listing on the nappy lady classifieds instead (which is free!)

Roskvawantingsomesunshine · 11/03/2007 19:37

That's really weird, because I sold used maternity bras on ebay, without them pulling the listing. I think they must have changed their policies recently - maybe at the same time that the feedback thing has changed.

tinkerbellhadpiles · 13/03/2007 22:00

OMG ebay is really dumb!!!!

So if you wanted to sell something in mens formal, for example a 'cum'merbund, you'd have a problem.

I'm tempted to list some really perverse stuff just to get them to try and work out whether or not it's okay.

Perhaps if you listed 'enormous pink dildo and body drizzle with ten free used cloth nappies' you'd be fine?

hk78 · 14/03/2007 00:21

lol at your idea for a listing, tinkerbellhadpiles!
this not allowing used nappies etc must be a new thing, i 've sold my reusable used nappies on ebay ,also a reusable swim nappy and some reusable trainer pants, all in separate listings,no problems at all, buyer was happy etc.

they're changing a lot of their policies etc lately aren't they though

hunkermunker · 14/03/2007 00:24

cum has two meanings

As for not selling used nappies - that's just barking. Still, sites that specifically sell used nappies will do well, I suppose.

Mirage · 14/03/2007 08:53

I've just had my used kushies pulled by ebay.I'm really annoyed as I had listed them in response to a 'want it now' & had 2 watchers. The want it now lady lives near me,but the only way I can contact her is via ebay.I guess that even though ebay won't let me sell on there, they won't be happy if I contact the lady through their site either,& direct her to the nappylady site?

Can't work out why these were pulled & the liners I posted last week weren't.There are still loads of used nappies listed on ebay at the minute too.

jeangenie · 14/03/2007 12:55

I'm not sure what rationale they are using for pulling stuff either - I have some nappies listed there at present (put up before I realised thay are contraband items) and some have been pulled but some listed at the same time not. I can't be bothered trying to work out how to unlist the remaining ones and have left them there for now, but am fully expecting them to be cancelled too. (Apologies to any m'netters watching them if they get pulled - they will go up on nappylady then ) - hope I don't get blacklisted by ebay tho'

Doubt you can get in touch with your watcher through ebay, I had a genuine question on another item I have up at the moment, sent a holding response (as in I'll get back to you tomorrow with the full answer) and haven't been able to contact her again as the question is coming up as already responded to and ebay are clearly suspicious we might be trying to deal off-board...

flibbertyjibbet · 14/03/2007 15:18

I wondered why there were no nappies on ebay last night! I was just about to list some of mine! And I wondered why there were suddenly so many more people listing them on the nappy lady as I always look there for more now I have 2 in large size nappies. Well well well.
I have to say though that outside the immediate cloth nappy 'sisterhood' most people think that buying 2nd hand nappies is very very wierd, unsavoury and most of them would rather be landfilled to death than EVER use a nappy that someone else's child had pooed in.
So, massive losses for ebay, mega gains for us being able to sell them on the nappy lady with no fees. Not to mention that on the nappy lady you just name your price. No bids, no waiting to see if you get more than 10p for them. And if you are a buyer you just buy there and then, no waiting a week for bids to close.
Must go, bumhuggers to sell xx

SenoraPostrophe · 14/03/2007 15:22

omg the world has gone mad. I wouldn't mind, but so what if a few pervs want to buy and sell used underwear. it's not illegal is it?

hairymclary · 14/03/2007 15:25

that's ridiculous.
they're washed and clean. how is it any different from selling swimming costumes etc etc?

LowFatMilkshake · 14/03/2007 15:33

This is obviously new as I had been looking on e-bay at nappies loads of times before.

Someone needs to e-mail e-bay to say used reuseabe nappies/covers etc are aceptable. People would'nt buy them if they did'nt want them used - and they are so flippin expensive new. Plus the fact reusing them again and passing them on to new homes goes with the green ethos of reuseables!

I think they need to write a seperate policy for nappies, it's a bit strong using the sexual items one for nappies!

flibbertyjibbet · 15/03/2007 11:01

Ah yes but there are persons out there who fetish on 'adult nappies' so if they are out to stop items perceived as sleazy then nappies will be banned however we list them!
I said it before, to the non-cloth nappy world, selling used nappies is WIERD. Its only us know its just something else you do when you have kids that you might not have thought of in your previous life!
I had the comment 'thats disgusting' when telling someone I wash nappies, and I was referring to my own, that I bought new!!

flibbertyjibbet · 15/03/2007 16:42

I am shocked, since last posting I went to check 'my ebay' for what I am selling, they have removed a pair of really snazzy hawaiian swim shorts that I was selling, being sold with 4 huggies swim nappies, which are brand new but I listed the lot as 'used' cos the shorts are. Ebay tells me that if I try to relist the item my account will be suspended! It also says the list of items includes but is not limited to, and cloth diapers is very clearly stated on the list!
Really annoyed as an identical pair of these swim shorts went for £5 the other week! Also, I tried to find where the details were of people bidding but the whole listing is wiped and everything connected to it so no way of finding out. So watch out they can just wipe your auction off without any notice!

IdrisTheDragon · 15/03/2007 16:44

I've noticed there are a lot more adverts on nappylady classifieds at the moment...

tortoise · 15/03/2007 16:48

I had two swim nappy listings removed today.

This is just sooo funny!

preggerspoppet · 19/03/2007 14:58

I had a listing pulled 3 hours before closing and the were seling really well!
it was for 5 used nappies. I thought it was a mistake and e-mailed twice to only e told that it was classed as adult erotica!!!

I wrote a huge long complaint about how mental they are (worded it a bit better) and how much of a shame that is for the planet and all those who cant afford new ones.

didnt hear anything ack though.

I wonder... could we come up with phrase that could make it obvious that they were used without discribing them as used iyswim? a sort of code?

Ripeberry · 28/03/2007 15:58

Glad i'm not alone!!
Just had my listing for 10 used nappies pulled off e-bay and a nappy wrap.
Why??? because it is used underwear.
Thank goodness for mumsnet, i might use the nappy lady link also to sell them.
I'll wait to see if any of the previous bidders want to make an offer privately WITHOUT e-bay.
Just e-mailed them to get them to check their listings as there are Loads of people selling their "used underwear" at the moment.
What a joke.
I feel picked on.

SoupDreggon · 28/03/2007 16:03

Can you not describe them as "have been worn"

NappyValley · 28/03/2007 22:18

Just out of interest (being a real nappy gal myself) I thought I'd look on Ebay and under the usual section for reuesable/towelling nappies. I filtered those for sale as "Used" as opposed to New and there are loads of items still listed, so I have no idea how ebay are exercising this new policy. Maybe as long as you do not use the word "used" in your description but select it as an option, maybe that works.

BURNINGTHECANDLE · 29/03/2007 19:41

They have just pulled a load of my listings so really annoyed, although they have missed one ! Plan to keep quiet and lovely ebayer emailed me to warn me what they are up to miserable wotnots!!
