Selling all your old stuff to pay for Christmas?

If you fancy it, pop in and say hello.

I am starting today and have done some listings - am aiming for £300 after fees to pay for the DC's Christmas pressies.

Uh-oh, I'm now dreaming about eBay!! That's not a good sign, is it!!

The annoying thing is, in my dream, I sold quite a bulky, high value item. Went to look on my eBay this morning and it's still for sale SadGrin

Fragglewump · 16/10/2014 10:26

I've got a question. I've managed to pull out a huge pile of books from the bookshelf - is it worth ebaying them? Or can anyone sell them on amazon? Has anyone done this and had any success or shall I just charity shop them?

ilovehotsauce · 16/10/2014 10:40

Can I join?

I will be starting today! Sorted old baby clothes the other night will be listing today and hopefully sorting out my clothes during nap time!

Any money I can get will be a big help!

Chrissy41 · 16/10/2014 10:42

books isn't worth it unless they are collector's/limited/first editions. Cost of postage means no profit and there are so many cheap book sellers online you could never compete.

IsletsOfLangerhans · 16/10/2014 10:48

fragglewump have you tried webuybooks or zapper for selling books? I was pleasantly surprised how much they would pay for some of my unwanted books. Cookbooks, old textbooks and hobby/craft books seemed to attract most money.

I'm targeting £100 on eBay - £20 made so far...

Fragglewump · 16/10/2014 11:23

Blimey I've just downloaded the webuybooks app and scanned around 100 books - the ones they do want they offered 20p or 37p per book. But you have to have a minimum of £5 to sell. I think it's the charity shop.

IsletsOfLangerhans · 16/10/2014 11:43

Worth a try - some of mine were £3-£6. I think the majority of books are round the 30p mark though.

Fragglewump · 16/10/2014 11:54

Islets you clearly have a superior range of books!! There doesn't seem to be any logic about what they do and don't want. It's all got to go though. Will bag and charity shop it!

Bambalam · 16/10/2014 12:02

Great idea for a thread, can I join?
I'm on maternity leave at the moment so any extra funds are welcome. So far I've sold a pair of shoes for £80, they were lovely but no longer fitted my post-pregnancy feet! Sad

I always have the intention of listing stuff then never get round to it. Maybe this group will encourage me. Perhaps next time DD naps, I'll list one item instead of wasting spending time on MN.

OneSkinnyChip · 16/10/2014 12:10

I am a novice at ebay selling but have loads of books I could sell. Are their fees really steep?

Natalie1989xo · 16/10/2014 12:29

I am very excited to join this thread! I have tons of stuff I could sell on ebay. I am de cluttering as well so what a perfect excuse to sell loads of things! I will list some things later and come back and let you know how I have got on!

HiccupHaddockHorrendous · 16/10/2014 15:57

I tried to get rid of loads of CDs through magpie or something like that. After an hour of entering all the codes, it offered me £10. They went to the charity shop!!

7 parcels packed and posted today. The house feels lighter already...although, I have barely scratched the surface Blush

Hangover permitting, Saturday and Sunday are going to big listing days for me. Might try and get a few things on tomorrow.

Does anyone know if the free listing weekends are happening frequently at the moment?

Natalie1989xo · 17/10/2014 20:18

I have listed 3 items today. I will be sorting stuff out tonight and listing tonight or tomorrow. I am aiming for listing a minimum of 4-5 items a day Grin

PurpleFrog · 18/10/2014 09:55

Hiccup - free listing weekends are by invitation only just now. I have an invitation for this weekend (plus Monday). They have been fairly frequent over the past 3 or 4 months, although I haven't been doing much listing so haven't taken advantage of very many.

sooperdooper · 18/10/2014 09:59

So pleased to find this thread!! This is exactly my plan, going to get stuff organised and listed this weekend and I really want to make about £250 to pay for Christmas :)

HiccupHaddockHorrendous · 18/10/2014 11:01

Purple - ah, that makes sense because my sister seems to get the free listing offer at different times to me. I quite like that it is now over 4 days rather than just the weekend because I can't always get my act together to list on the weekend.

Natalie - good luck with your current listings :)

Sooper - these threads are great for motivating you to list and for general chat (otherwise I bore my rl friends with my eBay antics Grin!!!)

A lot of last week's stuff has sold...still got a pushchair which I'd really like to see the back of this weekend. Might drop the price a bit more.

How does everyone keep track of their 'challenge' total?

I tend to just look at the total at the top of my 'sold' page in eBay but that's before any fees have been taken off and is only for a certain period of time. Might have to get a pen and paper out later and work it out properly!!!

glammanana · 18/10/2014 12:55

I've done quite well this past week made profit of £54.00 after posting as I offer free P&P,just hoping I don't come across any funny buyers who claim not to have received their items as there seems to be a lot of them about at the minute.?

HiccupHaddockHorrendous · 18/10/2014 13:03

Brilliant!!

I offer free postage, too. Really looking forward to next week when the 'small parcels' dimensions increase. Two of the parcels I posted the other day were just too big and cost £2.40 more per parcel to post...£2.80 to £5.20 is a painful difference Grin. Usually, I'd take them home and send through My Hermes but I'd already printed labels for two other items and didn't have time to do any more before getting them sent out.

Chrissy41 · 18/10/2014 13:27

Glamma - why don't you send Hermes then no risk of buyers lying about not receiving.

glammanana · 18/10/2014 16:11

Chrissy41 I do send larger stuff by myhermes and rate them very well I have never lost a parcel in 18mths,but most of my stuff can go into an A4 self sealed bag and goes through at large letter most times,I send all shoes etc by hermes also if I am busy at home they call to collect for a wee bit extra, thanks for the tip though xx its good when we all look out for each other don't you think.

nickstmoritz · 18/10/2014 23:28

Remember from 20th Oct you can send larger items up to 2kg for RM £4.30 signed for - good for bulkier items like coats. I realise Hermes is a bit cheaper but I find it easier to take everything to the PO. I try and pack smaller things flat to go large letter.

Actually as people have been talking about books it might be worth doing a "bundle" of books and using this PO offer to post more cheaply. Might work for kids books? I usually charity shop books as they don't seem worth ebaying usually.

I aim to get listing tomorrow with 100 free listings to use. I keep track of my sales with a spreadsheet that deducts 15% for ebay & pp fees (not strictly correct but covers the approx amount).

fairisledog · 19/10/2014 18:55

Yay,

I found and listed quite a few bras (to my shame some were BNWT as I gained a lot of weight quite quickly some years back and have never lost it all). Within 24hours 3 were sold at between £8 and £11 each.

I'm now up to £111 of the £250 target I've set myself.

It's very time consuming listing though isn't it ?

Hope everyone else is doing well. Keep at it folks, house gradually de-cluttering feels good, not sending stuff to landfill or getting the very grumpy lady at our local charity shop to take stuff without being sniffy about my "donations" feels good and getting some funds back into my paypal account feels really good.

WrappedInABlankie · 19/10/2014 19:17

Hi (:

I wanted to do this but I think I have a repellent on my account lol! I have chamilia bracelet and charms, iPhone 5, Nike trainers, furby boom etc and nobody appears to want it Sad

Where am i going wrong??Blush

sooperdooper · 19/10/2014 23:54

Want to post your links wrapped? Maybe we could see if there's anything we could suggest :)

Today I've listed a Coast dress (never worn, sale buy and it's never fit me!), some worn once boots and couple of pairs of shoes and a goldfish tank!

Does craft stuff sell well? I've got tonnes of stuff I'm never going to do anything with

Snowball4girlz · 20/10/2014 02:30

i have 100 free listing to use tomorrow :) this thread will give me the incentive to get on with it :) I have hardly listed since before my holiday. Great idea Isabella.
