Yesterday I won an auction for an item, the seller lived in my town to I sent them a message and asked if I could collect, they said yes and gave me their address.

I have just be around to collect the item and when I handed them the £4.30 which I won the item for the woman said "where's the rest?"
I said that's all of the money, I won the auction for £4.30 (well £4.27 actually)
She then said "yes but there is also the £7 p&p charge"
I said, yes but you aren't posting it so you don't have and postage charges.
And she said "that's not all that p&p is for"
I asked her what she wanted p&p charges for and the item is not packaged up and I am collecting it from her house at a time convinient to her.
But she just said, "it's part of the auction, I want the p&p charges too"

I told her I didn't have any more cash on me and she told me to come back later.

Surely you only pay postage if an item is being posted.

Has anyone come across this before?

No, she is a nutter, I think you need to go and ask for the money back (not that you'll get it probably) and say you're going to leave her negative feedback. Or just leave negative feedback, without going back.

She sounds utterly stupid, or, more likely, just a greedy caaah.

Rooners · 25/08/2013 14:06

What's her other feedback like?

Rooners · 25/08/2013 14:06

and did she give you the item?

picnicbasketcase · 25/08/2013 14:08

She's talking shite, she can't charge you p&p when there is no packaging and she hasn't posted it. What else does she think p&p is meant to cover? Shock

Dontletthemgetyoudown · 25/08/2013 14:08

Negative feedback and report to ebay. Get your cash back and don't agree to close the case? Or alternatively is the item worth £11 odd? If its still a bargain/good price pay the £7 and leave neutral or negative feedback.

LilyBossom · 25/08/2013 14:09

no do not pay her a penny for postage - ridiculous of her and greedy too.

Rooners · 25/08/2013 14:10

I think she isn't happy that it went for £4.27 and is trying it on.

Sorry, can't work out if you have got the item or not.

WeAreEternal · 25/08/2013 14:19

She wouldn't give me the item, she gave me my money back and suggested I come back for the item when I have all of the money.

She seems to be under the impression that p&p is just a handling charge.

I was expecting the item to end for around £5, that is the standard.

She is a loon or not very bright .. Of course you don't Pay p and p if you collect. Send her an email via eBay with a copy of eBay rules. Explain you are not paying and would like to collect the item later or your money back whichever you decide to do.. Don't pay !

picnicbasketcase · 25/08/2013 14:22

I think I would report the seller to eBay and have to just accept that I'd lost the £4.27. Unless you think she'd accept you going back and telling her you're not paying the p&p, asking for the money you've already given her back and cancelling the sale?

Shamoy · 25/08/2013 14:25

She's an idiot and I don't think you'll get your item, lucky you didn't give her the money!
Try reporting to eBay, see if they can message her with the rules

I agree she is unhappy about the low cost of the item and expected to make a few pounds on the p&p. She didn't because you collected it. Not your fault. I'd either not pay or take the item back to her house and ask paypal for a refund for the item. I wouldn't take the loss of £4.27. Why should you. Or do you not have the item. In which case ask for a refund of the £4.27. Why should these cheats get away with it.

LilyBossom · 25/08/2013 14:29

I would report her as a non performing seller and leave appropriate feedback and stars. She isn't going to let you have the item though sadly. I would shop elsewhere.

Viviennemary · 25/08/2013 14:30

Didn't read properly. Blush. Report to ebay. She is out of order.

picnicbasketcase · 25/08/2013 14:38

Ah, I missed the bit about her giving back the £4.27 already. Well then just report her to eBay. Yes, you didn't get the item but hopefully you can buy from someone less insane.

nickstmoritz · 25/08/2013 14:39

OP says she hasn't got the item but has her money.

OP I would leave it and would not want to go round to that nutcase's house again!

Of course you don't pay P&P if you collect. That is crazy talk.
You could message her to say you will check with ebay about collection and go along with what they say (which is that the seller is wrong and you are correct) if she isn't happy to let you have the item for the amount you won it for then obviously you would have to let ebay know this and that she refused to give you the item so they would be aware that you were not a non payer. See what she says to this. Maybe she is just confused??!
What is her other feedback like?

nickstmoritz · 25/08/2013 14:40

nickstmoritz · 25/08/2013 14:42

Crikey you really do get all sorts don't you?

CreatureRetorts · 25/08/2013 14:44

What was it to have £7 postage yet worth £4.27?!

Ifcatshadthumbs · 25/08/2013 14:45

I would leave a negative and report to eBay. Silly moo cow (her not you)

NaturalBaby · 25/08/2013 14:51

What an idiot. I would send her this message: P&P is for postage (i.e stamps) and packaging (i.e bubble wrap, jiffy bag, tape etc) so considering you are not using any postage or packaging to hand the item to me, I will not be paying the p&p charges.

You have spent time and fuel collecting the item instead of paying p&p charges - 40p mileage... + the cost or your time for 2 journeys!

Rooners · 25/08/2013 15:15

Ah I see. Well if you got your money back, then I think it's really not worth engaging further other than to leave appropriate calm and factual feedback.

Rooners · 25/08/2013 15:20

Also, she will still have to pay her listing fee/FVF - so she's shot herself in the foot.

What you might end up with though is her opening a non payment case against you. If this happens, and it might not - but if it does, then pay via paypal, and wait for the item to arrive by post.

She will have made you pay but at least she won't be profiting Smile

If she then posts it, leave her negative feedback.

If she refuses to post it, claim item not received and get your money back through paypal, and then you can still leave FB for her (you can't if you are given a strike for non payment)

If she takes payment then dumps it on your doorstep, you can either keep it and leave neg, or you can claim non receipt and open a case and she will have to provide online tracking to prove delivery, which she will not have - and you'll get a refund.

However that's going down to her level a bit. Sort of.

WeAreEternal · 25/08/2013 16:20

I have sent her a message via eBay quoting the eBay rules as advised.

I think she was obviously hoping to make a bit of profit or cover her fees from the postage.

I will wait and see what she says, maybe she was just confused and thought p&p is included in the price regardless of postage or collection.
