My item arrived screwed up in a taped together bin bag. WWYD?

It was a lovely white company dress for my Dd.

The dress and top were basically screwed up and wrapped up in a taped together bit of bin bag, with a ripped piece of paper on the front for my address.

What would you put in feedback comment? And would you still give a positive?

Why does it matter?

hellymelly · 05/09/2012 22:24

I would still give a positive if the dress was otherwise in the condition described. I've had a lot of things arrive in taped up black plastic, and they do then get squashed in transit, but I would only mind if the item was in worse condition than I was expecting.

picnicbasketcase · 05/09/2012 22:24

Were the items damaged? If not, you can't really do much about it. Leave a neutral if you really feel that strongly about it but it's only packaging and it would be rather unfair.

SavoyCabbage · 05/09/2012 22:26

I would do nothing at all if the dress was ok. Using plastic bags is a good way of keeping your postage costs down. How much postage did you pay and how much did she pay for stamps.

McPhee · 05/09/2012 22:27

I'm just miffed as I've never received anything packaged this badly before.

It's not damaged the item, but wanted to guage what others would do.

I paid 2.60 postage, and parcel was weighed at 2.20

posting in old bags or re-used envelopes is far more environmentally than for some mad reason using a brand new post-pak every time! YABU

picnicbasketcase · 05/09/2012 22:32

They didn't massively overcharge you on postage either then. I can't remember what the star ratings are for but can you mark them down on whichever one refers to the p&p? I think you really should leave a positive though.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 05/09/2012 22:35

I don't see what the problem is. You've got your item, in the condition that you were expecting.

You were charged 40p more than the actual postage cost - few people live adjacent to a post office so there could well be petrol costs to factor in.

You just didn't like the look of the packing material - hardly grounds for complaint.

McPhee · 05/09/2012 22:36

I never asked if I was being unreasonable Hmm

I was trying to work out why I felt let down, and what feedback to give.

It's the way it arrived which made me think.

OP posts:
LackingNameChangeInspiration · 05/09/2012 22:37

the item is fine, the postage charged is very close to the actual postage, did it arrive in a reasonable time frame? I don't understand what there is to leave anything but positive feedback about?

LineRunner · 05/09/2012 22:38

40p for the time taken to tape it up and post it isn't bad.

McPhee · 05/09/2012 22:38

Forget it.

I can't be arsed.

It's EBAY....not frigging Harrods. You get what you pay for.

mumtomoley · 05/09/2012 22:42

I think this is pretty normal! I get loads of stuff packaged up in black bag/carrier bags through the post. Saves buying brown paper and does at least as good a job.. probably better because more water resistant and it doesn't matter if it's clothes.

FriedSprout · 05/09/2012 22:49

The first time I had an item in a bin bag, I was a little surprised too. Now, having spent way too many years on eBay, I can tell you it is quite a usual method of wrapping, used to keep sellers and therefore buyers costs down.

The only time I have commented is when a very cheap type of bag was used which because of the composition, smelt like nicotine!

If the item arrives clean, still securely wrapped and to the correct address, all's well Grin

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 05/09/2012 22:49

Can't be arsed with what op?

You asked a question, we answered it - just not how you would have liked us to by the looks of it.

Please give positive feedback if you are happy with the item.

fergoose · 05/09/2012 23:49

I think the seller should have taken more care folding and wrapping - I would email and say you were disappointed with the state in which it arrived in, and tell them they are lucky the item wasn't damaged. Then decide on feedback and stars based on their reply?

I don't think people mind clean re-used jiffy bags as it helps keep costs down, but a thin bin bag is pretty rubbish isn't it (excuse the pun!). I have had stuff arrive in a laundry tablet tub with address written on in biro, and even once the packaging from a Christmas chocolate bar multi-pack - just taped up and address glued on badly.

McPhee · 05/09/2012 23:52

Exactly fergoose!

It would piss me off - I'd probably leave positive feedback but write a snarky comment. I sell lots on ebay and while I recycle packaging, I still try to present things nicely - neatly folded etc.

starfishmummy · 08/09/2012 23:57

I would probably be a bit "hmmm" but providing the goods were undamaged.I.probably wouldn't be bothered. Crumpled wouldn't worry me as I would be washing garments anyway.

ravenAK · 09/09/2012 00:05

I'd be a bit cross that the items weren't folded tidily, but no issue at all about use of plastic bag to wrap them.

HiccupHaddockHorrendous · 09/09/2012 11:19

I, also, would email the seller and let them know the condition of packaging when you received it. They might not realise their choice or method of packaging is inadequate.

I would still leave a positive FB if the actual item was as described and would consider reducing the p&p stars.

I frequently recycle packaging materials and am often amused by other sellers' packing (cereal boxes seem to be fairly popular!) but I wouldn't be 100% happy if I sent an item of clothing and it arrived as yours did.

getmeoutofthismadhouse · 09/09/2012 11:23

Maybe make a comment in the feedback , "lovely dress which luckily wasn't spoilt by the bad packaging " sort of comment .

FlamingoBingo · 09/09/2012 11:27

I always fold items nicely but then also always, always wrap clothing in plastic bags. It's a light and easy and environmentally friendly way of posting things. I also use the back of a used piece of paper for the address. I've got 100% positive feedback. I don't see the problem - you haven't bought something as a gift, or from a posh boutique that spends a fortune on wasteful packaging.
